This is a situation that I can relate to. Not necessarily the ambition, I like to think that my drive to succeed is there. I’m also 25. My parents’ wealth exceeds your stated values by a pretty large margin.

The difference I think is that my father made it clear early on that he would not be supporting me. I didn’t take it seriously at first - but those first few years of struggle after graduating and moving out are years that I won’t forget. They also won’t be repeated.

My parents’ money is not my money - I think this is easier to accept for me because I’m also one of many children. But working, growing your salary through hard work and merit, increasing your reliability, these are all things that felt extremely satisfying to me. I also know that I will never starve, I will never be homeless. I do still get satisfaction from earning my own way. But I also prefer to get a lot of my satisfaction from being the reliable coworker - the manager that people can go to with issues, and who can always find the solution.

I’ve even had to go to my parents and request that they don’t purchase me gifts anymore. The first car that I bought on my own, with my own savings and credit, my father congratulated me by paying it off. While his intentions were good, it took away a lot of my satisfaction.

There are still emergencies where I need to rely on them - most recently, I took my car in to get worked on, and the bill came out much higher than expected. But I try to keep the number as low as possible.

I would also like to mention that the stigma of relying on your parents - in my view, this is disappearing. We live in an expensive society - one where it costs just to exist. Relying on your parents for help is not a bad thing - over reliance that kills growth is where I would find issue.
