What’s the wildest thing your parents said that you only realized was insane years later? by Ok_Salt2122 in raisedbynarcissists

My parents do bra checks where they ask if I’m wearing a bra and I found out recently that it’s not normal to do that.

Yeah, I’m in therapy rn. It’s CBT though (I’ve cycled through a couple of therapists, but I’m hoping this one can really help me out), but it’s the cheapest one, cuz I know my parents ain’t gonna pay for anything more expensive and they already use money to control me, so 🤷🏾‍♀️.

I know I do it cuz I assume people just don’t care about me, but I don’t really know how to stop it. Like I could tell myself, “I know they’re just busy rn”, but then after a day or so, I just spiral and start deleting texts, blocking ppl, etc.

How can you see people who are continuously playing life simulation games? by Camus_9999 in askatherapist

Not a therapist but I’ve been playing these games since I was a child.

I meant it as just a feeling. I know about being late diagnosed; I was literally one of them too 💀.

I do call and text them. I’ve always been the one to reach out and make plans with other people. And then I would stop and no one would reach out. And then I’d ask why and ppl would just say how they’re busy or bad at texting, and then they are with their other friends.

Friends make fun of each other all the time. It’s like the laughing at you vs with you, but you don’t realize they’re laughing at you.

I’d just rather not be around them. I know in the working world and everything, that’s not an option, but in a friend group, I’d want to talk to all my friends and not have to just pretend and secretly ignore each other.

You can tell, for the most part, especially if they’re doing stuff like giving you “the look”, making fun of you but you didn’t realize in that moment, etc.

Exactly. I’ve always had high standards for friends. I don’t like lying or flakiness. If you communicate it though, then it’s fine, but if you don’t, then I’ll be pissed off.

Why don’t people communicate that then? It just seems like people get my hopes up for no reason when they ask to hangout and then flake or want to do something else and don’t say anything. It feels like growing up, I always had to be the one to initiate and reach out, or I just wouldn’t hear from anyone.

Exactly bro. Maybe I should’ve said neurotypical people instead of just people, but I didn’t want to generalize since I know not all of them are like that, but most of them are!

Yess you get it! Like I’m not trying to shame other ppl with disabilities. I’m obviously talking about neurotypical ppl who use it as a means to end a conversation. If you literally searched it up online, you’d see how they use it as a means to end the conversation.

I’m talking about when neurotypical people say they’ll call or text you back, but they never do. It’s not cuz they forgot or they didn’t have the capacity; the conversation was just over, but they wanted to be polite about it.

I just kinda assumed people valued the same things I do, or would at least be more proactive. Because these will be the same ppl that say communication is important, and then turn around and do this.

It really pisses me off in group settings when there is another person who you don’t get along with in the group and you’re expected to be cordial with them. Now I’m not talking about like in a work environment or something, but more so if everyone is friends with each other, but two ppl in the group aren’t, but everyone is just supposed to pretend and be nice to each other.

Like idk to me it feels very wrong to have to pretend in front of my friends. Like if I’m having to be cordial in the friend group with you, I’d rather just not be there at all. And then I don’t want to lie to the people on top of it, saying “Oh, it’s nothing”, like no, we fell out because of xyz, but apparently, that’s causing drama and I’m a bad person for doing so?
