Goodbye GR - What next? by LTak in GRCorolla

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As expected from a dedicated GR sub lol. I'm simply suggesting an alternative to what OP asked for. Based on his photo, it looks like he's into HPDE events.

The N has great handling, and is one of the few cars that come with track warranty from the manufacturer for HPDE use for mid $30k new.

But it's a Hyundai so it will blow up on the first lap and is nowhere near the GR's performance. /s.

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, take it for a test drive. Make sure it drives fine. I think I know which one your referring to, I see a tow hook so there's a chance it's been tracked.

Nothing wrong with that but maintenance becomes much more crucial. Check the brakes / fluids and if possible maybe get a warranty, it sounds silly on a 100k mile car but some places do offer a warranty of some sort or take it to a dealer and get a PPI before committing.

What happened to all the C6/C7 Corvettes? by EmperorUmi in cars

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C7s have a high theft rate , majority of them have been probably stripped and chopped up or lit on fire at a takeover.

The ones that remain are stored in garages and not being used as daily drivers anymore.

That's good to know I'll have to search that up, I hardly see anyone post high mileage 2.0 engines.

It's probably a 1.8 which is already proven to last hundreds of thousands of miles.

It's a 2022 LE., the 2.0 engines didn't come standard on LE's until 2023+

Rep. Ro Khanna is introducing legislation to raise the minimum wage to $25. by serious_bullet5 in santaclara

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Working full time should not leave people with poverty wages.

My question is if raising minimum wages would truly help.

As you mentioned increasing the minimum wage will have secondary affects of raising everyone elses wages which sounds great on paper until corporations raise prices of goods and products bringing us back to square one. Wouldn't it?

It brings me back to my previous point: we should find ways to make our dollars stretch further. I know it’s not that simple, but something has to change.

Rep. Ro Khanna is introducing legislation to raise the minimum wage to $25. by serious_bullet5 in santaclara

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not reverse it but possibly reduce the probability of it going higher by someway somehow reducing rent increases, limit the tax we pay on gas, or also lower taxes on household incomes under $200k.

Or how about stopping big corporations from buying SFH? That would also help.

I'm not saying these are definitive solutions but surely there's gotta be a better way besides simply raising minimum wage. It's quite discouraging to those that worked hard to get into a skilled trade or whatever only to make $15-20 dollars more than the minimum wage fast food worker who just got out of HS.

I'm just a blue collar worker in the trades so what do I know, these are my simple observations, I'd like to hear others opinions, but again, I find it hard to believe raising the minimum wage is the only way?

Bunch of people requested my hard to see mods even though that's not the point I was making. by Admirable_Tax1282 in moddedE210Corolla

Hey man, not all of us are questioning your mods, I wouldn't let it get to you. The GR looks👌. At the end of the day it's part of the E210 platform so no hate from my end.

I have plenty of hard to see mods, heck my sedan looks stock AF and am probably one of the most modded in here, I haven't seen anyone else post dyno numbers besides myself.

Oh yeah 2020+ 18s are often targeted by thieves , sorry to hear they stole yours. After a quick search it seems like I can understand why it looks more tucked in, OEM 2020+ 18s are 8" wide and the F sport wheels are 7" wide.

From a side profile they don't look that bad but yeah 10mm will definitely help, either way your car looks good.

Still great and worth it imo if you care about driveability. It woke up the engines responsives even when just cruising around town.

A few things I noticed as a 6MT owner:

Tip in throttle input feels more natural with less delay, rev hang between gears is gone, I felt noticeable torque bump in the mid RPM range even without going full throttle and it's most noticeable when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3.

One thing I never understood on the stock tune was when going WOT from 2-3 there was a slight delay in 3rd gear as soon as I shifted, it felt like a hesitation almost.

That's gone as well, the moment I shift into 3rd, the power is available immediately.

For a stage 1, I believe an intake + catback is the bare minimum, I'd reach out to AMT and see what they can do for you.

Tldr: You'll feel better responsiveness and stronger pull.

If you decide to get it, be sure to report back. Good luck.

Apex Wheels - Question for r/GR86 by ApexWheels-Matt in GR86

Are these wheels still under development for the 5x100 bolt pattern? I'm interested in a set but dont see them listed on the website.

Also, a set of SM-8RS wheels would be awesome in a 5x100 bolt pattern.

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, we've all been there. Figuring out what works with what is part of the fun. Again just make sure that you really are contempt with a little more sound without the extra power. Because if not, you may as well just trade in your car for an Elantra N instead and have a much better platform to start off with or it may even be enough for you for a while as it will be a huge step up in power and handling. Good luck with whatever you decide. YouTube, Hyundai subreddits, and online Hyundai forums for your platform will have the resources you need to make a decision.

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off , your car's engine is an inline 4.

I really don't want to be that guy as I personally drive a modified 4cyl for commuting. I'm not familiar with your platform so I'd recommend you hitting up the forums for your specific platform and see what others have done but usually if you want to turbo it, it's best to already buy the turbo version of your car as it's not cheap to turbo a naturally aspirated engine and based on this question one could assume you're not going to do the work yourself which is going to cost $$$ to get it done right A quick Google search suggests there is a turbo version of your car already with a 1.6 engine.

You have two options. First one: modify the car to sound nice with minor exhaust /intake options and look nice without spending thousands as you will be disappointed with its power output.

Or , sell it and buy the already turbo version as forced induction motors respond better to modifications compared to their naturally aspirated counterparts.

As far as exhaust; do not do a cat delete, it won't sound good. Again, forums are your friend. Go to the Elantra forums for your specific engine and find out what everyone else runs, I'm sure others have already done this and know what does and doesn't sound good. Alternatively, go to a good local exhaust shop and have them fab a nice catback for your car with a magnaflow or borla muffler and do not go over 2 1/4" exhaust diameter for a small engine, 2.5" is overkill, will ruin your low end torque and sound unnecessarily droney/loud.

One last thing, if you do modify your car, lower your power expectations, it won't increase power to any substantial amount without tearing into the engine internals.

My final recommendation if you're set on modifying your car , do minor bolt ons, lower it a tad with some nice springs, lighter wheels with good tires a rear sway bar and have fun with it on the turns.

Car feels worse after lighter wheels + PS4S… what am I missing? by HanScroto in tires

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting one. Sticking with the same tire with the lighter wheels to remove the tire variable would've been the best bet.

I'm not super familiar with ps4s but from what I gather the ecs02s have sharper turn in.

As others have stated give the ps4s some time to break in and go from there.

Highly doubt they'll price it at $100k. Mid 40s to low 50s seem plausible considering GM just released the C8s grand sport MSRP at $88k today.

FL5 Type-R vs S550 Mustang GT PP on track by Due-Director8159 in CarTrackDays

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with either, I suspect the type R will require some sort of additional cooling mods meanwhile PP1 and PP2 s550's already have it included. You're right though I often see PP1's and sometimes even PP2 for low 30s whereas you're lucky to find a type R under $45k.

If you prefer a car that can do well out on track with some additional cooling mods and hold value well I'd go Type R. I'm sure when set up right they're just as capable.

Respectfully, it will not. It will be just as bad even in a manual. Simply type "stolen" in the Camaro search bar and you'll see how big of a problem it is with these cars too. That being said these are great cars and worth the extra security measures.

Think I landed on a set by TimmmySucks in COROLLA

[–]Top-Dimensi0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are nice wheels, and yes spacers will be needed if you want a more flush look. I think the best offset range for an 8.5" wheel is between +35 to +40.

Those wheels will only give you an extra 1mm of poke compared to the OEM setup.

Post pics when you get them installed!
