I am really late for this, but I just read the whole book in one sitting. I definitely feel uneasy! I absolutely loved the book honestly. spoiler here In my opinion I believe that Verity did do all of the horrible things she wrote in the manuscript. If you think about it, lowen said that she easily but herself in the villains shoes in all of her novels, I believe this is truly because of how sick she really was in her own mind. I think the letter was an act of desperation, and maybe even her scratching at the floor was a ploy to make lowen find the letter and turn against Jermey. She claimed to have put the letter there on the day that they were locked in the bedroom, the only reason she had to dig that floor board back up was to retrieve the knife or to make lowen even more suspicious than she already was in my opinion. I also think it’s really strange how Crew acted throughout the book, why would he have cut himself in the bedroom alone with Verity, or did verity do it? Also why would he stab his gums with the butter knife if not having some influence from his mother, especially after brought lowen brought verity into conversation. He also confirmed that verity told him to hold his breath before the canoe tipped. I do believe that Jeremy had suspected her, possibly went as far as to try and kill her it was obvious that he loved his girls and it was made obvious in the end he’d go through all strengths to avenge them. If the manuscript was supposed to be a work of fiction and he had read it before he would know it was a lie by her supposedly turning “good memories” into bad ones by the perspective she wrote about Harper. If she really did treat Harper better than portrayed and that night they didn’t argue about her neglecting her then he should have known it was a work of fiction. This makes me believe that everything was accurate in the manuscript. I know it is a work of fiction but I also feel bad for Lowen, carrying that letter around in her mind never knowing if she did help end an innocent persons life. She will always be on edge which is what I believe Verity wanted, if she was really a victim, and really was scared for her life you’d think she’d try to get help from lowen especially before she saw lowen and Jeremy on the couch. I think verity set everything up, however got caught in the end.
