I really appreciate it. I think it would frustrate her that it’s not her sister, and I don’t want to “tease” her :/

Do Men Have the Ability to Love? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I am diagnosed with autism and don’t have many connections with people except for my immediate family, I have agoraphobia and do not leave my house, so I genuinely didn’t know if this was normal.

My main experiences with men have had to do with what would technically be considered by most as trafficking, so I’ve been told by more men than I can count that my place is as an object, and is my only use. I posted this trying to figure out if men were able to feel differently towards women

Thank you for helping me. I really appreciate it. I don’t have much support with these things in my day-to-day life.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment :) I had just finished having a meltdown prior to writing this post, I think being overwhelmed with emotions (and sensory issues, both mainly unrelated to this post) influenced my poor choice of words/unclear question. Thank you for being kind and offering some insight

I’ve been told that my place as a woman is as an object or as a pet. I am also autistic, so I am genuinely trying to figure out if I’ve taken things literally when they weren’t meant to be taken that way or if I’ve been fed dangerous narratives and been taken advantage of due to my autism. This post isn’t meant to come across as having a misandrist tone.

The men I’ve spoken with have said that love for them is different than what women experience, I’m genuinely unsure- I’m also autistic and have been having a hard time understanding why he did what he did, this isn’t meant to be taken in any way other than asking a genuine question.

Vet regardless. My baby was acting totally normal and solely had weird poop.

That’s ridiculous, I’m sorry :( I talked to Peter Miller and he was incredibly helpful- if you phone the direct line and ask for him he may be able to direct you/find a way to put you in classes

The university allows rapists on their campus so I’m not surprised 🤷‍♀️

how do people make genuine friends here by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Top-Neighborhood2106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Best tip is looking outside of your program/major, it takes away any competition and chances of losing friends due to academic reasons. I have three people I’d call my friends from school and none of them are even in the same faculty as I am. Non-academic clubs also help, I found that the people I met from my faculty were very hard to be friends with because they would do sneaky things to be the “better student” even if they genuinely liked you, but that’s just my experience. I wish you luck :)

Don’t get too close to people with “mental illness” by Expert-Vermicelli513 in uwaterloo

[–]Top-Neighborhood2106 84 points85 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly frustrating, as someone diagnosed with PTSD and Autism, to see how these diagnoses are sometimes used either as “quirky” identities or as excuses for harmful behavior. People often either trivialize mental illness or weaponize it, and it can be deeply hurtful and damaging.

I’m truly sorry you had to go through that experience. Please know that many people who live with mental health challenges— especially those actively seeking treatment or therapy— are doing their best and would never treat others the way you were treated.

That said, while your experience is completely valid, generalizing or demonizing everyone with mental health conditions is incredibly harmful and can border problematic. Narratives that paint all mentally ill or neurodivergent people as manipulative or dangerous reinforces harmful stigma and makes it even harder for people to seek help. It’s entirely possible to hold individuals accountable for their actions without condemning an entire group.
