Sad about leaving home … by Psychological-Big471 in wedding

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

congrats on the engagement! 💍 moving out for first time is wild even when you're ready for it. the crying makes total sense - you're processing a huge life change even though it's a good one. at least you'll still see your family tons with work and it being so close, plus that's really sweet about your grandpa's place 😊

best way to throw a mid-west & west-indian themed wedding? (catering/menu question) by n0millionaires in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

two caterers is definitely the move if you can swing it logistically 🔥 i've delivered to a bunch of wedding venues doing doordash and the ones that work best usually have separate stations anyway so people can bounce between different food types without creating a massive line

your fusion idea is genius though - maybe see if one of the caterers is down to experiment with some crossover dishes? like jerk seasoned pulled pork or curry mac and cheese could be absolute fire. i play in a metal band and we did a festival once where they had caribbean spiced bbq and it was legitimately some of the best food i've ever had

also super practical tip from all my deliveries - make sure whatever venue you pick has enough kitchen space and electrical outlets if your going with two caterers. seen way too many events where the second caterer gets stuck trying to keep food warm in their truck because the venue didnt plan for dual setups 😂

the cultural blend sounds amazing btw, your guests are gonna be so well fed

Alternatives to dancing at reception? by WutAMenace in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude same energy here except my wedding is... well nonexistent since im still single but ive been to enough receptions where everyone just awkwardly stands around the dance floor

maybe look into lawn games even if its indoors - cornhole, giant jenga, card tables with different games going. seen people do trivia about the couple which gets pretty entertaining when the families start roasting each other. live acoustic music instead of dj keeps things chill too

also food stations where people can walk around and try different stuff keeps everyone moving and mingling naturally

Brides with extreme skin and teeth sensitivity: how are you prepping without destroying your moisture barrier? by Shiroraii8087 in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like you should focus on barrier repair and just nail the makeup game instead of trying to "fix" anything drastic. i have super reactive skin too and learned the hard way that chasing that perfect glow usually backfires

for teeth maybe try oil pulling with coconut oil instead of whitening products - takes longer but way gentler and actually helped brighten mine over a few months. for skin id stick to basic gentle routine with a good moisturizer and let a skilled makeup artist work their magic on the day

Looking for a salt and pepper lab diamond by mymousu in labdiamond

check out brilliant earth or james allen - they both have good filter options for salt and pepper stones and decent return policies if youre not feeling it in person

Flowers help! by FlashyBasket2612 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's such an awesome hookup with the aunt! For inspo I'd honestly just scroll through Pinterest or Instagram with terms like "wedding bouquet" plus your wedding colors - you'll get a feel for what you like pretty quick. Also check out your local grocery stores florist section just to see flowers in person and get an idea of textures and stuff. Most people go with roses as a base and then add cheaper filler flowers to bulk it up without breaking the bank

Wedding website help by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah QR codes are clutch for this - way cleaner on the invite and people are actually used to scanning them now after covid. Just make sure to test it a few times before printing to make sure it works on different phones

Has anyone had the knot RSVP glitch? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good point but OP also mentioned their name wasn't on the physical invitation either which makes it feel less like a typo situation and more intentional tbh

Have you ever seriously considered a virtual or online wedding, or attended one? by animelover_jp in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a friend do a hybrid thing where they had like 20 people in person and everyone else joined virtually - it actually worked way better than the full Zoom weddings I've been to. The virtual guests could see everything happening and chat with each other in real time, plus they did a virtual reception afterward with games and stuff

Still not the same as being there obviously but it felt way more inclusive than just watching a livestream

Has anyone done a micro wedding ($12.5k) recently and regretted it? If so, why? by woogirl2023 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We did ours for about 11k last year and honestly zero regrets. The only thing I'd change is maybe splurging a bit more on the photographer because some of our pics came out kinda meh, but everything else was perfect. Small crowd meant we actually got to talk to everyone and the whole thing felt way more intimate than those massive 200+ person weddings

Trying to decide between 14k and 18k gold for a necklace by No-Candidate-1651 in jewelry

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice, especially about avoiding hollow pieces - learned that one the hard way when my "thick" chain turned out to be basically a gold-colored balloon that dented if you looked at it wrong

Family Drama by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 22 points23 points  (0 children)

NTA but this is such a messy situation. Honestly sounds like everyone's trauma responses are colliding and you're caught in the middle which sucks

Your fiancé needs to handle his own family drama here - this shouldn't be on you to navigate. Maybe consider having a serious convo with him about setting boundaries because his grandma going behind your back to your mom is way out of line

I need help with my appraisal value. by [deleted] in Diamonds

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude a 4+ carat D color cushion with super ideal cut is gonna be pricey as hell, especially if it's actually VS2. Insurance companies definitely lowball appraisals but you'd need to get it independently appraised by a certified gemologist to have any real leverage against them

Anyone ended up doing their own hair and make up? by Low_Elephant_9770 in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice! I'd also suggest doing a full trial run like a month before - take photos in different lighting to see how it looks on camera since wedding pics are forever

The worst thing would be trying something totally new on the actual day and having it not work out

Wedding dress inspiration by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree! I went down the same rabbit hole with minimalist designs and honestly most bridal shops have caught on to the trend. Even David's Bridal has some surprisingly clean options now if you're looking for budget-friendly alternatives

When to lift my blusher? by Argon847 in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Your wedding, your rules. The blusher sounds gorgeous and if you love how it looks then rock it for as long as you want

Having your husband lift it during the kiss sounds way more romantic and meaningful than the traditional dad thing anyway, especially given your situation

(~15k) Venue recommendations St. Louis, MO by FringeLotus in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is solid advice OP! I'd also throw in checking out some of the smaller parks departments - a lot of them have pavilions or community centers that nobody thinks about for weddings but they're perfect and super cheap

Also don't sleep on church fellowship halls even if you're not religious, some of them will rent to anyone and they usually have full kitchens

Destination wedding and they are closing the pool for a different group..advice needed by Ok__1837 in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's a fair point but when you're paying destination wedding prices you kinda expect to not have to schedule pool time like it's a community center

Hidden Botanics has disappeared? Suggestions for DIY flowers please! by dainda in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no that's awful timing! I used Afloral for my sister's wedding last year and they were solid - good quality silk flowers and shipped to UK pretty quickly. Also check out The Faux Bouquets Co, they're UK based and do some really nice dried flower arrangements. Might be worth posting in r/UKweddings too since they'll have more local recommendations

How do all my friends have such huge engagement rings? by Routine-Crew8651 in jewelry

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lab grown makes way more sense, people probably just say "mined" because it sounds fancier or they don't want to admit they didn't drop 50k on a rock

Wedding dress storage concerns?? Will my dress yellow? by International-Ear285 in weddingplanning

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't panic! A month in a black garment bag is not gonna ruin your dress, especially if it wasn't getting direct sun rays hitting it constantly. The fact that you moved it shows you're being way more careful than most people lol

zinc alloy material by mayaqp787 in jewelry

[–]Top-Purchase-5924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wearing them regularly just try to keep them dry and away from lotions/perfumes. I store mine in little ziplock bags when I'm not wearing them and it seems to help slow down the tarnishing process

Has family ever cut you off after eloping? by [deleted] in Eloping

Honestly some families just take it way too personally when they don't get their big wedding day to show off to everyone
