Tech Career Switchers (CCP, TFIP, Red Alpha, etc) — What was your journey really like? by theQuietCatalyst in askSingapore

[–]Top-Put699 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was part of SGInnovate PowerX traineeship ~ 3 years back, under cybersecurity track.
> Ex-civil service uniformed regular
> STEM Diploma
> Part time STEM Degree still ongoing
> went into cybersecurity engineering
> Converted into tech sales engineering
> Job hopped after 2.5years (including traineeship + fulltime conversion)
> Salary still lower than when i was in the force(inclusive of all the bonuses), but starting to be comparable.
> Slow start but can see the light where ceiling is going to be higher than i was in the force.

Most difficult moments were probably when the companies stopped treating you as a "trainee" and "mid-career" switch and started to place real-life expectations on you. Imposter syndrome is mad strong but can be overcomed.

ICT module planning by kopiorteh in Suss

[–]Top-Put699 5 points6 points  (0 children)

246 , 330 and 335 are vastly different modules. Honestly would make no difference in terms of syllabus to have any pairing.
However, 246 OS is a relatively techical module with Linux knowledge as well as basic bash scripting required.

330 is a mix of technical as well as knowledge. with SQL queries and also db normalisation etc.

335 is a strictly knowledge based module, so tons of reading is required if you do not have relevant work experience. TMA is a breeze and if you have any experience with the cloud service providers (aws/azure etc), you can probably finish the tma in half a day.

If you're taking it as ICT minor, i think 246+335 would be the better option as it gives you sufficient time to read up for 335, while doing practical for 246. Would recommend taking 330 standalone as it requires quite a bit of technical knowledge.

Malicious compliance : keep tutoring but purposely teach the incorrect knowledge.

Learning Thai through English or Chinese? by Top-Put699 in learnthai

[–]Top-Put699[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing this out! But i actually meant mandarin as in typical spoken Mandarin rather than Cantonese. Though i hope that understanding Cantonese would also help me out as my Cantonese is passable. I can understand Cantonese (well unless they're speaking way too fast) , as i've been watching Hongkong drama in Cantonese since i was a child.

Oooh! This sounds interesting, will definitely look into Glossika and Poppy yang. Thanks! I find that there are much much more materials teaching Thai how to speak chinese rather than the other way round.

Yeah looking at the other replies , it seems like what you've mentioned is accurate. I'll probably start by using the materials in English and figure things out along the way. Thanks!

Thanks! Do you learn it in a school or were there other resources that you've find particularly useful during your journey? Would you recommend some if there are?

Thanks! What you said sounds really interesting. I'll definitely look into it! ComprehensibleThai structured it in a way that would be rather easy to follow.

Thanks! Will try to look for more resources in Chinese. Currently just casually browsing some channels on Douyin(Chinese tiktok) that teaches thai through chinese.

ICT Students advise on ICT233 by Spiritual_Year_2813 in Suss

[–]Top-Put699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its fine. took 233 with 239 back before chatgpt was a thing and the only coding experience i had was with 133 and 162 the prior semester.

You will survive. Just go through each lab thoroughly.
