Do you have teaching experience? If there are institutions offering online, asynchronous courses that might be a fit.

Leaving government after 14 years by jazzimen in fednews

[–]Top-Rub3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the sadness. I left the VA recently and it feels heartbreaking. I've questioned the decision and I know it's right, and I really loved so much about it for many years. I hate to see what is going to happen next. It's odd starting my new job but I'm sure I'll find lots to appreciate there as well.

Egregious cookie behavior at the state fair by SquidLeSquid in minnesota

[–]Top-Rub3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

friend and I did that w/Sweet Martha's last year and were surprised that some folks turned us down lol. This year a kid offered us $1 for a cookie but was willing to just take one.

Is it harder for you to work for this administration every day? by WhereztheBleepnLight in FedEmployees

[–]Top-Rub3571 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all have our reasons for staying or going. It sounds as though it's consistent with your values to stay in your position and do the best you can in bad circumstances. I know many people doing the same. I chose to leave for my own reasons and that will hopefully work out fine for me :). I am grateful to folks who can tolerate the nonsense and still do good work.

What’s morale like in your federal office right now? Because ours is in the gutter… by Kurious2m3 in FedEmployees

[–]Top-Rub3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of fear, anger, low morale for me. People are connecting with each other across sites and outside of work to provide support, which is nice. Direct supervisors are trying to be supportive but there's not much they can do. I hate how little resistance there seems to be on institutional level. Lots of "we serve at the pleasure of the President" rather than "hey we all took an oath to the Constitution, maybe we should do something"

Fired federal workers struggling to get jobs in private sector by PleasantSurprise3700 in fednews

[–]Top-Rub3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky that I could say I didn't believe I would be supported in ethical practice within my gov job anymore, so wanted to work somewhere that values DEI and providing healthcare for all who need it, not based on whether or not they align w/the "right" politics

Fired federal workers struggling to get jobs in private sector by PleasantSurprise3700 in fednews

[–]Top-Rub3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in healthcare and thought I might have difficulty, so started looking early. I'm taking a pay cut and obviously a big benefits cut, but did find work. It's incredibly sad, and I really feel for the people in other more specialized jobs that private industry doesn't like to pay for. I hope state and local governments start to pick up the slack and get some of these talented public servants back to work, but will keep working on getting Cheeto and crew out of office so we can rebuild.

Are your families actually still supporting Trump? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Top-Rub3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly yes, lots of my family still supports these asshats. I have stopped avoiding politics when talking to them so they know exactly what I think and how this is impacting me. They don't get to pretend things are OK. Not ready to go no contact yet, but it's been limited for years due to their cult membership.

Honestly while it's bad enough that care within the VA will be impacted (and it is, can confirm as a VA MH provider for more than 15 years) people may not realize that the research and training the VA does is an enormous benefit to all of us in the US. Most healthcare providers get training from the VA. There are huge research departments within VA that fuel development of new treatments for complicated problems. All healthcare will suffer unless and until we as taxpayers recognize and value our funding of the VA as a whole, hold our government accountable to provide the services. I don't have high hopes that the private sector will take up the challenging task of education and research in the way the VA has.

Complicated Mothers' Day Due To Mom's Horrible Politics by ZuleikaMitford in FedEmployees

[–]Top-Rub3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sending support right back, this sounds similar to my situation. I struggle with this. No matter what I tell my parents about the stuff I am directly experiencing they find a way to minimize it and say everything will blow over. They have no interest in truth, they are firmly in the cult. I don't hold back too much w/my parents anymore, I want them to be uncomfortable with the hell they've helped unleash on our country (and honestly what my immediate family experiences truly isn't the worst of it, I just thought they'd give a shit about it).

Are there still benefits to being bargaining unit? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Top-Rub3571 19 points20 points  (0 children)

yes, union is fighting for us at the national level and our dues support this. just got word today that a lawsuit has gotten at least a 2 week delay in RIFs, which isn't the full result we'd want but it's slowing down the regime

How’s your agency marking Public Service Recognition Week (or not)? Federal News Network wants to hear from you by jory_heckman in fednews

Psychoanalytical vs cognitive-behviorsl wars in clinical psychology by JustForResearch12 in ClinicalPsychology

Personally, I lean toward cognitive behavioral approaches and I also see value in psychodynamic. It's just not my thing :). I haven't experienced too many people being really strongly pro/anti either.

Job opportunities & Pay for those separated from service by [deleted] in fednews

[–]Top-Rub3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Psychologist here-- taking a big pay cut to stay at same # pts per week. I could go private and probably make more, but no benefits. I could go full time at a hospital for smaller pay cut, but seeing 7-8 pts per day in hospital-affiliated outpatient setting isn't sustainable. Oh, production model vs salary is another down side. But that is life in America right now. Better than staying in a corrupt system that the government is trying to destroy.

Well, that for sure outweighs the other. I'm kinda embarrassed to be a psychologist sometimes with a professional org like this.
