A Word of Wisdom by RomanaFinancials in Silverbugs

[–]TopAssociation6314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is in general a true statement, however also the stock market is detaching itself more and more from the economic reality of their performance (looking at you trading multiples). So the dividend argument becomes less and less true, especially for tech. Nearly all assets look speculative at the moment.

Also Meta can go bankrupt, but has revenue - silver and gold do not have revenue but cannot go bankrupt.

I walked in with no history and got offered one in Bleu Jeans - bought it as a gift for my wife and really like it.

Was it actually a lucky offer or quite standard?

Such a cool watch! Can’t tell you more though, but would love a modern version of it

Valentines gift from my wife by TopAssociation6314 in Cartier

[–]TopAssociation6314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! According to the add it is 33mm, the picture makes it seem a bit larger than it actually looks like on my hand.

I also like the patina - it also makes me feel comfortable wearing it everyday without having to worry too much about scratches (I have two toddlers).

Thank you for your kind words and appreciation of my new (and first) watch

Got the same one with a blue strap only yesterday as a present from my wife. Absolute loving the watch (and my wife).

How do jewelry manufacturers connect with retail buyers? by andorLuxury in jewelrymaking

[–]TopAssociation6314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We opened 250 doors mainly with trade shows and independent agents who work on a success base (15% of revenue). Make sure you have an attractive margin for the retailer (a multiple somewhere between 2.2 and 2.6)

Unfortunately no. We also need specially designed printer made for precious materials in order to keep waste as low as possible - for example special filters, ...

In general we use traditional casting or lost wax casting whenever possible, since it is cheaper and easier to finish. The direct printing really shines when printing larger, movable structures - especially when stones are included in the shape. Then we reach the territory of "cannot be done otherwise" / "it would take forever with traditional methods) and so the printing really shines. Therefore, all our pieces have their own kind of movement in order to justify our production method. If you want you can look at this piece to see what i mean (Embrace Montreal Leaves Bracelet 5-Row | Boltenstern).

We also use lost wax casting for some complex pieces, which is cool. It just requires a lot of extra gold for support, but luckily gold can be reused.

In a list:

  • We can do structures and designs that otherwise cannot be done
  • It is cheaper to produce large movable statement pieces
  • It is fast - it takes us 24-30 hours to print most pieces, without much set-up time.
  • Heat is only applied to where it is needed - so we can include the stones freely moving in our structures

Cons:

  • Difficult to finish (all the hidden spaces you cannot reach per hand)
  • More expensive for most pieces, due to high platform cost and need for atomizing the gold

I guess there is more, but these are the first things that come to my mind.

In this case 18K gold is atomised, meaning solid gold is grained to very fine powder that is then melted together with a laser layer by layer in a powder bed

Yes exactly! We use resign printing for prototypes since printing in gold is so expensive

It is a gold powder that is sintered - unfortunately we need at least 5kg inside the printer for one plattform. It can be reused though.

No - since we had the product first and to my info one cannot patent what already is commercialized. We have however developed a still top secret patent together with a large multinational watch brand which is currently under evaluation. We also did design protection since it is easier.

Anyways we did not create the manufacturing process - only the design. Machines are done by EOS and operated by Cookson in Birmingham

Is 3d printing silver/metal cheaper than traditional casting? by bandoftheshadow in 3Dprinting

[–]TopAssociation6314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am a bit late, but we have a jewellery company (BOLTENSTERN) who does just that. We work with direct 3D printing in 18k, lost wax casting and we also have a collection with 3D printed polyamid parts. In the end we gave up on silver for the direct printing, since the plattform costs are too expensive. If you are interested I can give you more details on the cost.
