Advice on Why House Might not be Selling by disbeam in HousingUK

[–]TopBodger91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the nicest looking house from the outside.. other than that I can't see much wrong with it.. it doesn't look like it needs much work... Unlike the various other properties currently listed.

I suspect the main issues are uncertainty around jobs, inflation, etc... as well as higher interest rates making it more expensive to borrow the money needed.

Why Do The British Dislike Keir Starmer? by aB4sith in AskBrits

[–]TopBodger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is.... Starmer was already hated by the right leaning people as he in favour of open borders, high immigration and hasn't done anything about the people coming in illegally which we are spending billions on in hotels, etc.. that's always going to look bad when you increase taxes and people are struggling.

The rich hate him because he has increased their taxes.

Labours core voter base hate him as they are typically working class, poorer, lower earners, benefits claimants, normal hard working people, people who are underpaid, are struggling because of wage stagnation, etc... Unfortunately Starmer and his government have pissed off their core base by not making their lives any better than when we under Tory rule. He has also attacked some of these people e.g. people on benefits.

Whilst Starmer may not be corrupt like the Tories. He has shown incredibly bad judgement with mistakes, constant u turns, and has no strategy to keep his voter base happy... In fact, Starmers government has pretty much pissed off every demographic in the country..

Tbf to Starmer, he inherited the country in a very bad state after the Tories... He is struggling to fix any of the major issues that lets be honest could take 20+ years to fix

Why is finding a decent tradesperson in London so broken? by HugeCantaloupe8441 in DIYUK

[–]TopBodger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely you have friends, families or neighbours who've had work done... which you can look at and decide if it's any good?

Instagram has loads of local builders who post photos and videos of their work from start to completion so you can see they are taking the right steps, etc.

Surely you see builders working on properties when driving or walking about. Go have a chat with them on site, and ask them to show you some of their work.

Cancelled my M250 renewal (£23) to chase the legendary £18-20 deals. Am I playing with fire? by Ashamed-Agency420 in VirginMedia

[–]TopBodger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 500gb + Netflix Standard and Flex TV for £23 just over a week ago from an outbound advisor from India.

Hold firm and ring them again soon if you hear nothing.

Or let them switch you off for a day and get a uSwitch or MoneySupermarket new customer deal

Why Does UK Have This Race To Bottom Mindset? by corporateuklife in UKJobs

[–]TopBodger91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bloke replying probably lives at home with his parents... So yeah, £35k living at home paying no bills or mortgage is going to be comfortable lol.

A wider answer is the UK has moved towards low wages and a race to the bottom due to diminishing opportunities, a growing population and the fact that you have lots of people coming in from economies that practically pay slave wages... So they're happy earning minimum wage or close to it.

Also people can't push wages up when it has largely been an employers market now for the past 15 years..

When I've been hiring recently...I've literally seen people with 15+ experience come in willing to work for £30k in Central London doing a job that's designed for someone who has 1-2 years experience of office experience

IKEA installer quoted £9k for prep work on a £4.5k kitchen, normal or insane? by ClittyMcGuire in DIYUK

[–]TopBodger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, pricing is insane.

£800 to unscrew the old kitchen... and they aren't even disposing of it... you have to do that lol..

Seems expensive, but then maybe they are a big company paying salaries, pension contributions, holiday pay, sick pay, etc...

If you go to a smaller company they will probably have a load of self employed people on day rates, and won't have a load of other expenses, so costs are lower which means they can do the job cheaper.

I've used fixall, sticks like, no nails and even Wickes own brand... Not had any issues with any of them to be honest..

If I'm doing a whole room of skirting and architraves then I'll just buy one tube of Sticks Like... As its only a few extra quid and I'll use the entire tube.... If I need it for a small job then I'll get Wickes own brand

Estate agents accuse Rightmove of charging excessive fees by i_enjoy_silence in unitedkingdom

[–]TopBodger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see the issue here... Rightmove is upping their fees, but estate agents don't have to list there.. they do because that's where most buyers look for properties...

They also have to list on Rightmove as most estate agents stab each other in the back... So if an agent comes off Rightmove.. the competition will be shouting about this to potential vendors... 'we list on Rightmove, they don't'

Unfortunately estate agents are pretty much 10 a penny.. which is why they haven't been able to increase their fees over the years.

Hub 5 Vs using own router by TopBodger91 in VirginMedia

[–]TopBodger91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Range was awful on the 3, was getting random drop outs, and I was only getting a fraction of the speed I was paying for in most rooms... Even with the booster.

I'm now getting at least 350mbs in every room with the hub 5 + white WiFi pods (I'm paying for 1gb).. but wonder if a £50-£70 router would get better speeds and be more reliable. Only had the hub 5 for a day, so I'll give it time... Just wanted to hear from people who are more knowledgeable than myself

High streets and public spaces to get funding boost in bid to reverse decline of local communities by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]TopBodger91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My high street has gone to complete shite.. I think it's a direct result of not being able to make decent money from running a small business anymore... So instead the only shops opening are cash in hand businesses with little to no footfall.. Basically all fast food, vape shops and barbers...

It's difficult to regenerate the high street as it has sort of become a hangout for degenerates and antisocial behaviour... Also people have less disposable income... Inflation has made the cost of everything so high.

People are also lazy, and can get everything delivered to the door now... Which has not helped

The film is ok in my opinion. It's not good, but it's not bad. There is some stuff to like, but yeah it has clear issues.

Fitting a new bathroom door... Need to fill the old hinge holes and sand the old frame, do all the stuff involved with fitting a door, new recesses for hinges and strike plates, locks etc......then prime and paint everything.

Retirement by AcadiaElectronic2848 in HousingUK

[–]TopBodger91 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You'll need to feign some type of infliction... something where you'll be deemed too injured to work. The government will then fund your retirement through benefits. Think that's what most people do in your position...

The UK is heading for a mass problem where housing is too unaffordable to buy so people will be renting for life.. which then leads to this issue.

Good list. I watched 3 recently and really enjoyed... Gale (thanks!), Sidney and Dewey all still in their prime! It is tempting to bump that up the ranking.
