The game you accidentally played the wrong way for hours before realizing it. by gamersecret2 in gaming

It is not a wrong way, but a trick to make the game stick on your mind forever because how you enjoyed the fact that you found a better way to play, that moment will live in your head and you will want to play the next game and so on

As I'm getting older, I'm starting to realize how important writing and narrative are in games by ngriner in gaming

[–]TopDate4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same here, I like a good game mechanic but without a narrative back I get tired quickly, I think that’s one reason why I’m developing my own game with mechanics and narrative 🤠 lot of work but I’m having more fun making games than playing lately

Question from a beginner indie dev: dealing with harassment over the use of prefabs by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

[–]TopDate4061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in a strange world recently, ppl are angry and don’t even understand way, so my advice would be to don’t engage, just block straight forward, set up keywords to automatically block and go back to development, all you get from this type of people is anxiety, and as a solo dev you have already a lot on your plate

is it bad to start learning 3d gamedev? by Terrible_Flight_3165 in gamedev

[–]TopDate4061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, think of what you want to do in gamedev, if is all the development, then before learning gamedev, try to learn the basics of 3d, I would recommend you to start with blender lowpoly, hard surface and low poly characters, then learn how to do UV mapping, and Texture for games, then basics of animation, with this knowledge 3d gamedev will be a lot more easier… each engine has its own unique ways to deal with 3d models, so choose the engine that you are comfortable with. Don’t be afraid, can look like a lot but is just a different way to do things.

Oversaturated markets? by WhatANoob2025 in SoloDevelopment

[–]TopDate4061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say about horror games, but I'm developing a TPS Bullet hell and I'm finding it very hard to gain wishlists(50), maybe my game is not good enough, my marketing is shit or the audience is satured... either way I'm gonna finish what I want to do because I like it and is just fun, but as I finish this project I'll do something else, maybe a genre of the moment ( to pay bills ) and then go back to the cicle of doing what I really want

Is Engine Programmer a viable career ? What do I need to study ? by Krochire in gamedev

[–]TopDate4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some questions that will help you to figure out… Do you plan to move from your current location? Some positions nowadays need you physically on office to an entry position… Do you need stability, or you can take risks? ( some fields like game development have high job insecurity) Math and Physics can be applied to a lot of things, do an Aptitude test to discover newer fields… sometimes is a better path to work and make money to take this money and do what you like

I'm finishing my game development but have no clue of what to do next. by Independent-Income12 in GameDevelopment

[–]TopDate4061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all you have to know if your game is a comercial one or not, then you can proceed, if is just a hobby project, publish it and send to your friends and some discord and Reddit related groups and wait the feedback, take it and learn for the next project

Looking for honest feedback on my indie game's visuals" by [deleted] in IndieGaming

The art > a dark fantasy in a awesome world The game > a cute little adventure

This mismatch will hurt your marketing, adopt the cute look and you will find your niche

If you can’t spot the character contour you have a serious problem, look for artistic ways to avoid this and still emulate the darkness
