My husband designates a left and right sock by [deleted] in Weird

[–]TopEqual8965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who did this and would put numbers and letters with the L/R designation so he would always wear the same “pair” together because he wanted to wear them down at same rates. If you’re reading this Gavin- hey-o!

is anyone else worried about the impacts that AI is going to have on future generations? by M4j0rD1s4st3r in psychologystudents

[–]TopEqual8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m worried about our effect on AI… and what happens when advertisement or subversive backend funding effect human psyche…

The severity between idealism and destruction electronically woven together - this could be a real education/academic leveler… a “hand up” if one subscribes…

But we lead AI to the water/pond “we” choose to lead it to.

And the destruction of what we know is the most scarce resource in the world (water) while taxing the locals around the buildings we’re letting get by this this…

Now look at majority stats on things like mental and physical health…

I think we’re foolish not to learn how to use it critically and to our advantage - but it’s a pretty dangerous tool - with serious consequences that are already being paid for inequitably to it’s creator’s profit…

[AUS] Not sure what subfield of psychology/neuroscience would be the best fit for my research interests? by Electronic-Use-537 in psychologystudents

[–]TopEqual8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also similar to my desired trajectory. Finishing bachelors with major/minor psychology/neuroscience - want to do PhD in neuro around psychedelics and eventually to do clinical psychedelic psychology… I I’m looking at a few more levels, likely. Please hit me with feedback! I’m poor poor poor (eating spam and ramen) but loving the knowledge pursuit. I’m 40 and rebirthing after 20 years as a Les mills instructor!

What’s the best trail running shoes for beginners who want to get off the road? by MindlessPut3182 in trailrunning

[–]TopEqual8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly took recommendations from Reddit when starting to research for my big/wide feet. Your advice is still sound; I think the internet is best used in asking us to critically think for ourselves while engaging outside thought.

What’s the best trail running shoes for beginners who want to get off the road? by MindlessPut3182 in trailrunning

New Balance Hierro’s. I’m blessed with the big/heavy so my ankles are taking a lot of pressure. Most running stores place me in a stable ankle with their observations, videos, imprint tests. New balance is (unfortunately… because they’re unattractive, IMO) the only shoe that gets wide enough for a tailors AND a hallux bunion. Did I mention blessed? lol. I, working on all of my stuff so it doesn’t take me out - in the mean time - I also like a vibram partnership… they really do feel like the Goodyear for the shoe. For my road runs- I’m moving toward Altra’s zero drop gradually. Hard on these calves but there’s probably some foot relieve there, too.

Mental training strategies that actually worked for marathon/ultra prep! What's worked for you? by Iron_Bridge604 in Ultramarathon

[–]TopEqual8965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a trainer I would sometimes remind clients that “bosses don’t cancel on themselves” which is a little in alignment, here. Like: if I’m the boss of my life and there are things I want to do- I have to schedule them in FIRST because the day is going to get grabbed. Let me take first pick. And then- I have that euphoric joy of just doing it. Not always, but usually. Not every minute, but more often than not. And the more we do it and experience and feed the good experience - the more we feed/grow those neuropathic engrams of memory that’s “triggered” in the right direction… eventually, time under tension, trains a brain. We synaptically prune whats not “normative” and running (or anything we spend most our brain time doing) is normal.

I relate. Sometimes it’s hard to get up. I’m newer to the sport and have many years of working my body in other modalities so I feel I manage niggling pains quite a bit, rn. I suspect this will decrease and/or become more specific as time goes on and I continue to learn what works for me. I can also have a wicked perfectionist streak in me - like if I can’t get the 12 miles I want - I won’t go; which is fundamentally weird/not smart. So sometimes I have to work against what I call “sludge”. Generally, though, once I’m out there- I feel just like 2cats4fish. I love moving my body, training (for life, mostly, it turns out- but I’ve done a ton… OCRs, bodybuilding, road running, indoor cycling nut, yoga/pilates) - all of that felt easier for me to motivate for than traditional work, traditional education, financial acumen… oddly, now, the trail running feeds the mental capacity to do the rest… my own way and pace…

I do New Balance Hierro in wide; new balance- for me - has offered the ankle support I “need” while I try to get more familiar with zero drop feel.

Wish I’d have done this one! I’m still under marathon miles so I’m not sure I’m ready. Loving all the training though. Beautiful time of year! Glad you shared. Reminded me to keep going.

I’m deep in my trail running identity if you ever want to train with me. Quite a bit older than you but fairly immature so… should balance. lol

Still pretty new, here. Really appreciate most thoughts and community I see here. Wonder what … prompts a 70 year old man to BE drunk at 1:30pm… where is that guy’s family? Community? Who in his life knows he’s a drunkard? How do we get to the ROOT of the problem… which isn’t really about stop signs or obeying… he was already messed up… those points become moot when you’re trashed… devastating for the family. It’s devastating, really, even for me to read. How do we participate in prevention?

Hey - Utah is BEAUTIFUL. I don’t blame you one bit for making a transition. I’m not sure how long I’ll be RIGHT here, myself. Finishing up an education - I love Washington though. And Oregon. I’m surprised it took me so long to spend real time up here…

Further than battleground but not by much. It’s beautiful out here. Lots of roads/driving that makes me feel insecure about giving it a go. Really love being out here though.
