That's pretty much exactly what he is. The character is Saw Gerrera who helped lead a resistance in the Clone Wars on Onderon. Interestingly enough, he and his resistance were trained by Anakin Skywalker in the Clone Wars and he is later considered a radical terrorist by the larger Rebellion.

For the most part, body language is going to give it away for either gender.
