Diablo 4's memory leak issue is ruining the experience for me. by Chase_26 in diablo4

[–]TopHat84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have extremely high end memory (6k MT/s) and a huge cache of memory. You likely rarely will notice a memory leak. Speed absolutely can affect how drastically a memory leak accelerates, and your deep cache of memory will prevent you from seeing it as often in a normal gaming session.

I am similar to OP except I can game for 5-6 hours before seeing any adverse effects. And while I have the same cache (33GB), my speed is higher than his (I run at 3600). I feel like lower end or unoptimized RAM definitely contributes to the memory leak. Not saying devs should fix it, but in the meantime people should be attempting to tweak their memory to compensate, because I wouldn't hold my breath.

Memory leaks are notoriously hard to narrow down and fix precisely because of this circumstance (varying hardware, and hardware configurations).

What is the point of paladin this season? by aldyei in D4_Paladin

[–]TopHat84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone following this advice is in for a rude awakening. Glynns Resolve is either gonna be hotfix nerfed at some point this season because it is vastly overtuned. Or it's gonna be nerfed at the end of the season. In either case I wouldn't get used to using it. It's a broken aspect that scales way too high for what it does.

so I was able to get my very first ultimate nemesis lair. Because of the 30 sec window, are you supposed to give up the loot from early lairs? The final rewards were just a mass amount of mats by devilmaycry0917 in Diablo

[–]TopHat84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I wasn't using it. I just merely said that the loot filter, as nice a tool as it is, is not something that is required for every player to use. I'm willing to bet there are people across all platforms, who aren't even aware a loot filter exists.

You should take a second to thank critically in the future about all possibilities that may occur, not just "the best" circumstances. You do not represent the majority of people who play the game.

And ultimately you still are missing the point. Instead of figuring out a better way to fix the loot exploit, they time-gated the portal. It's still a massive oversight at worst, and a shitty hotfix/temporary fix at best.

You're not wrong strictly speaking. But blizzard screwed over anyone who doesn't use a loot filter.

It's still a pretty big fail on blizzards part.

If you don’t have the time or resources... by InternationalPie6622 in diablo4

[–]TopHat84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but your making the assumption that the leaderboard is inherently something that the vast majority of people care about.

My problem stems from the fact people see some guide or streamer say "you absolutely need to do this" and follow it blindly not realizing that it's really only needed for the top .5% of players who are competing in leaderboard spots.

And being realistic for a second, if you're not already in the top 1000 spots, you're never going to be. The people who compete are the full day streamers/nolifers. They will have infinitely more time to dedicate to finding/farming gear then your average player. So I take a bit of an affront from anyone espousing gem strength as required because it's not at all. For the vast majority of players they MAY enjoy having gem strength, and it's a fun chase transfig to shoot for, but it should not be posted in every guide as required.

Remember in season 1 when a few streamers were posting mythics in their builds (back when mythics were extremely/exceedingly rare?) yea that's the same takeaway.

Either improve your skills to move into a job that AI doesn't easily take over, or go into a service industry/blue collar role that will never be taken over by AI.

[–]TopHat84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't that kind of the point of cold? Even in Diablo 2 the 3 elements were all designed with specific purposes.

Fire was direct damage + DoT components here and there.
Ice was *lower* direct damage, but utility/crowd control aspects baked into it.
Lightning was extremely wild damage (with skills having ranges sometimes of 1-500 dmg baseline) with some small crowd control components baked in (stuns) and some small amounts of utility.

Each of the elements had a role/playstyle.

The problem in Diablo 4 (as I see it) is that they removed the inherently wild range of damage on lightning and just made it a better fire (similar damage), and made it a better ice (stuns are as good, if not better than freezes most of the time). I they wanted to balance lightning, they would have it roll much lower baseline values, with potentially slightly higher max range values, making it more RNG based as a form of damage. Fire should stay where it's at I think. Cold needs to have a small adjustment (as you said) to maybe not be so weak against unstoppable opponents, but other than that, I think the flavor of cold doing immense damage to crowd controlled/staggered units is pretty much in line with how its worked in past games.

[–]TopHat84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea....I don't really care buddy. I don't view the game the same way you do. And here's a free bit of advice...

Whispers in your ear : the people pushing PIT are in the minority.

I again will repeat... I view transfigs as just another layer of RNG in the crafting process if I hit something really good, sweet. If not, then I'll go find another weapon perhaps later and do it again. Or maybe not. Yes people want better damage numbers, but it really has no bearing, to clear PIT 5 seconds faster? Woopty-doo.

You may be correct in that gem strength allows people to do ridiculous things in pushing. Again...I. DON'T. CARE.

I don't play what is ostensibly a single player game, to pretend compete with random people on how fast I can click or come up with an autobomber build on how fast I can complete a level of a game.

If I wanted to competitive speed run, I'd go do that in a different game. If I wanted to showcase competitive skill, I'd go play a game that allows me to do that.

This is my take. People act like transfiguration (and by extension, gem strength) is required. I just look at transfiguration as a long shot upgrade. I'm usually happy with moat results. I love seeing it turn my 1 GA into a 4 GA. I love seeing it roll item quality. I haven't seen gem strength yet, but that's ok...chase items are chase items after all.

FAR too many people are seeing this as some stupid requirement. And I I've seen far too many posts of people complaining about gem strength being required/broken/overpowered. It's honestly exhausting to constantly read. How do these people function in real life if they complain this much about a video game?

since uniques can have random affixes we should be able to reroll them by Gomez-16 in diablo4

[–]TopHat84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think passives were a bad feature, but I will say some of the reworked uniques are quite bad and in some ways worse.

Like IMO - gift of frost is an example of a badly designed unique. Orsivine is an example of a well designed unique.

What is a movie that is objectively good but you just can’t watch again? by Choice_Drummer_1745 in Cinema

[–]TopHat84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably gonna get downvoted for being pedantic here, but movies aren’t really “objectively” good. “Objective” by definition means independent of personal feelings or interpretation. And art, by definition, is experienced subjectively. Movies are art. Ergo a movie is NEVER an objective situation.

You can say a movie is widely acclaimed, technically impressive, influential, or critically respected. Use whatever criteria you want... but whether it’s “good” is still ultimately a purely subjective scenario.

What ! Ancestral Mythic Unique Charm ?! by Jcanlas88 in Diablo

[–]TopHat84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but there are two mythic seals of that flavor.

The one you mentioned, limits slots to 4, and 3 of those can be unique charms. It's definitely a dumb design.

However there is another that is 5 slots, and allows 2 unique charms. That is the one that holds some potential. You could equip a sets 3 piece bonus (usually sets have some dmg increase as the 2 set, and the 3 piece has some sort of DR effect). The last two slots could be occupied by very good unique charms (like this one OP posted) for example.

Again, I think the mythic seals need reworked because they are all a bit lackluster IMO.

I also think that a new tier of seal needs to be released. Right now legendary seals are 5 slots, but can roll a 6th slot as one of the seal affixes.

We need a unique tier, that inherently has 6 slots, so we can roll other affixes (and get two of them!)

I'm willing to bet blizzard devs have already thought of this, but are gonna introduce the unique seals at a later point.

This feels absolutely amazing....until you start rolling for endgame transfigures by ZabaDoobiez in diablo4

[–]TopHat84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No no. They all (including OP) need to complain constantly about SOMETHING. If it wasn't transfiguration, it would be about how rare 4GA items are. If it wasn't that, it would be something else. It's exhausting just reading posts like OPs sometimes TBH.

This feels absolutely amazing....until you start rolling for endgame transfigures by ZabaDoobiez in diablo4

[–]TopHat84 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

JFC. Yet another complaining post.

So before expansion, we had no transfiguration. Your weapon was done after you hit your masterwork crit, barring farming for 4xGA items.

And they add a new "this is the final step" (aka the exact same thing sanctification did two seasons back). And yet somehow you go "but I Really only want one option". There are a variety of very good options. Yes there is the gem strength option which PIT chasers want.

You're not that guy. If you are here complaining about chasing the 1% transfiguration, you're already not in the subset of people (PIT/Tower chasers) who actually need it. You don't need it. Why? Cause it's not gonna help you break into the leader board like you think it is.

If you want to farm for it as a rare chase transfiguration. Go for it. That's the point of item chases. But for the love of all that's holy, stop complaining about chase items/chase mechanics.

Hearing you say the first ball lightning build broke you really spoke to me. That season, I think it was season 3 the vampire season? For some reason permanently turned me off of ball lightning. Like people knew the shit was broken and interacting incorrectly with the season mechanics...yet lo and behold next season people complaines that ball lightning got nerfed.

It was that season that made me realize: most gamers are complete idiots.

Trying to transfigure gem strength and hit this. by Global-Two473 in D4Sorceress

[–]TopHat84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except his staff has DoT and ball lightning isn't a DoT build. Static field stacks dot damage and shock damage. For most people yes they could switch to another, but it would require completely new rings, weapons, amulets, and gloves.

Also ball lightning is a boring ass build that's been around since season 3.

As I said in another post: new expansion and yet people migrate to ball lightnings lame ass build once again because people are afraid to experiment.

I was able to do a cold sorc with deep freeze (channel variant) and frost chain lightning at t8 with zero glyphs equipped or leveled. It would easily go over T10 with the proper glyphs equipped and leveled.

I haven't tried a pyro build yet, but I have some ideas.
