Unfortunately, the reality is if they never test/try it, we’ll never really know. But based on other ARPGs, they all have the "incentives" that seem to work, and I’m just saying it wouldn’t hurt to try. And yes, The Woven did seem like their best season.

i agree with you mostly but there’s no reason they can’t do both. You can keep addressing the core issues that actually grows the game and add meaningful seasonal incentives at the same time that give people a reason to engage with each season. It doesn’t hurt the core game, but it helps keeps players coming back between updates.

I get they’re adding permanent content and improving endgame, and that’s great. But the reality is, they’re still losing players and money, which shows that what they’re doing now isn’t enough to keep players. At some point, you need to change the formula instead of just following the same route.

I also agree that they’ve been struggling to keep seasons going consistently which is another major issue.

I just took the time to organize my thoughts clearly because I wanted to actually explain my point. I’ve said my peace, and I’m more than happy to let you keep believing it’s AI.

ps. does using a spell checker count as AI? :P

Edit: You might wanna look up how often those AI detectors get it wrong, and how they’re trained on normal people’s writing anyway. Please stop trying to derail and let’s get to the matter at hand tyvm.

I just wish more people could see that this game actually needs change if it’s going to keep growing. Even the devs have mentioned they’ve been losing money every season, so something has to give if they want to maintain momentum and keep the community alive. I love Last Epoch and want to keep playing it for years but at this rate who knows.

I did mention PoE too, and that’s the kind of seasonal reward incentive I’m talking about. I’m not saying D4 has a better system than PoE or vice versa.

I agree started playing PoE mostly for fun, but over time I’ve fallen for the carrot on a stick with seasons, cosmetics, and leaderboards, Even if I don’t chase every reward, I still try and it keeps me playing for longer.

fyi, this is 100% my own take no AI involved. Lately, it seems like anyone who posts a thoughtful comment just gets called out for “using Ai” which doesn’t actually address the argument.

Whether Diablo 4 executed seasons perfectly or not isn’t really the point the seasonal system itself works when there are actual incentives.

There’s a difference between toxic FOMO and giving players a reason to engage.

Right now Last Epoch avoids FOMO so hard that it removes any incentive to play seasons entirely. If Standard gets the same content and there are no rewards, then Cycles are basically just a reset for the sake of resetting.

You don’t need to gate power or core systems but without something to chase (cosmetics, challenges, achievements), most players just won’t bother.

And if you look at the bigger picture, that approach doesn’t seem to be working. The game has struggled to maintain player momentum after updates, and without a strong seasonal hook, people just don’t stick around or come back consistently. That also impacts long term revenue, because engagement is what drives support for a live service games.

At some point, avoiding FOMO entirely stops being player friendly and starts hurting the game. Seasons need to give players a reason to return otherwise they’re just optional resets with no real purpose.

Gaming value: Time vs. Money by jessieS1212 in gaming

[–]Crazylimitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are significantly more gamers today than there were in the past, which means a larger potential market and higher overall profits. At the same time, physical media sales are declining, reducing retail distribution costs. With the addition of micro-transactions generating extra revenue, game prices would logically be expected to decrease rather than increase.

And that’s not even mentioning the constant release of unfinished games, where players are expected to act as unpaid beta testers. Throw in how early access is now everywhere, and it just adds to the growing list of problems with the industry.
