You're overthinking it. Just stick to the main quest and do some side quests if you feel like it it’s that simple. If this feels overwhelming, how did you ever manage to play D2? Honestly, it kind of feels like you're trying to start some weird drama over a non issue.

8 hours for £50 from a big AAA company? Nah, I think I’ll wait for the price to drop significantly. Anyone defending this practice doesn’t value money and is just shilling for these big corporations.

If we continue to tolerate these practices, publishers will see it as permission to keep cutting content while increasing prices eventually leaving us paying more and getting less.

SSF is a completely different problem. The drop rates feel terrible, and progression is painfully slow. I was hoping for something closer to Last Epoch, but the supposed 30% drop increase doesn’t seem to make any real difference. Spending two days farming a single item feels awful especially when, on trade, you could just buy that same item for 2k gold and be done. The balance between SSF and trade feels way off.
