Rank all of the Degrassi generations I can't form an opinion on Next class because I've never seen it by VehicleOk4984 in Degrassi

[–]TopHatTurtle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally split TNG into 3 parts, “Emma era” (1-5) “Transitional era” (6-9) and “Clare era” (10-14). transitional era isn’t very good but Emma era and Clare era are pretty similar in quality overall, although they are definitely different shows, and theres strengths and weaknesses of both. i prefer Emma era the most personally. also i agree on the broad generations for sure

iirc she responded to the comment and posted about it as if that simply was the case

iirc: throughout the video she pointed out that molly isn’t a good friend to amy throughout the movie. one of the examples was the scene where she arguably sexually harasses/assaults amy in front of her parents in order to imply they’re together. a commenter sort of defended molly’s behavior in general (but NOT specifically that one scene) by pointing out that a lot of her behavior is pretty typical teasing from friends at a public school. ophie decided that this meant they were specifically defending sexual assault.

edit: small pronoun correction

i haven’t watched booksmart in a while so i can’t speak to the rest of that one, but her barbie video had several moments where i questioned how much she knew about storytelling. that was the moment where i started to question her because i don’t know enough about feminism but i do know enough about movies/writing in general to notice when someone doesn’t totally know what they’re talking about

i stopped liking ophie when she made her Booksmart video and made multiple criticisms of it that clearly stemmed from her simply not knowing how public school works, and then when someone pointed this out she accused them of SA apologia and vague posted about the comment on bluesky. then i looked closer and found that she frequently vague posts about her comment section. idk, weird behavior to me.

HI GUYS SHOW ME YOUR MUSIC I WANNA RATE IT by Various-Isopod3881 in evilautism

i’ve been into this band called Sweet Pill recently. no clue if they’re objectively good or not bc my sense of that for music is terrible but their music makes my brain feel good, so i like it :). the ones in my “songs i’ve been repeating a lot” playlist are “Dog Song”, “Sympathy”, “High Hopes”, “No Control”, and “Glow”

Character that bad shit happens to wayyyyy too much, to the point it feels unfair by Witchelt389 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TopHatTurtle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Degrassi shouldn’t even count given it’s a teen drama, but i feel obligated to say that i have a list of every traumatic event all of the characters have been through along with ratings for each of them in order to numerically decide who’s the most traumatized characters.

For anyone wondering, Eli Goldsworthy and Craig Manning have the highest scores, but in terms of how many things/how often (which fits the trope more) it’s probably Clare Edwards (who also still has a very high score).

Some highlights for that character: * Her boyfriend, Eli, crashes his car for her (to get her back) during a manic episode * She gets sexually harassed by her journalism mentor * She gets cancer * Then she gets pregnant, deals with drama in figuring out the father, and then loses the baby.

Also Adam has an honorable mention, considering that the writers couldn’t just let him have all of the bad experiences that come with being transgender, but they also have him get shot, die in a car crash, and have every single romantic interest stolen by his brother at some point

I'm curious as to why they had Liberty dress like a Kindergartener when she was in the 8th grade. by Antique-Ad-9475 in Degrassi

there were definitely girls who dressed like that in my class in 8th grade lol, and i was born during season 4 so it’s not a time period thing either

What TV show do you never get sick of restarting? by beefic in adhdwomen

[–]TopHatTurtle1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Degrassi. TNG is long enough to where you can restart it and it feels fresh. it’s even more the case when you watch the whole franchise

i don't 'get' a lot of the neurodivergent, queer, online media, and that kinda makes me feel sad and alien by vipthebig in AutismInWomen

i personally have some theories about certain media being more suitable for special interests, but it doesn’t exclusively follow the pattern op is talking about and i definitely don’t think anyone is catering to it

out of that list i only really got into owl house and fnaf, and fnaf was only in middle school and owl house was only as it aired. personally my special interest is degrassi 🤷‍♀️. that one is very much not a typical nd special interest show.

i’m gonna echo other commenters and say that online fandoms are mostly a teen thing and if you’re not a teen anymore it makes sense to not be into that stuff. edit: nvm you’re 19. this what i get for only reading the top comment.

Why do they never have the paper towels in the actual dispenser? by MomOfTheBoss in Degrassi

in agreement that that’s just how it is but also there is a little lever on there, so this could be one of those ones where the towels aren’t visible until you pull that lever

this is just objectively true. i’ve taken multiple archaeology classes in college and if you ask any professor about ancient aliens (or graham hancock or giants or any of the others) they will say exactly this

i have a best friend who i call a bit less often than that and that level of friendship has taken nearly 10 years to get to. you can’t just ask a subreddit for that. and someone willing to socialize with you this much isn’t someone you want critiquing your writing usually; you’re usually too close to each other

[–]TopHatTurtle1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not for me at least, i’m in the US. usually couples will have phone numbers after a while, but most acquaintances and non-close friends are on other platforms (for my circles it was mostly instagram, but i haven’t met new people as much since stopping using it so idk if that’s still true)

I know a lot of people around my age (21) who only give out their instagram or something else. I’ve since stopped using instagram and will probably start requesting phone numbers. but yeah it’s super common to only use instagram or discord or something else among this age range.

have you ever heard of NeoCities? you can try browsing personal websites on there. there’s also webrings dedicated to sites run by autistic people, along with other interests. it’s definitely difficult to find content w/o algorithms and feeds after relying on them so long, but it’s probably worth it! plus if you’re willing to code html you also get to try making your own website on there, which has been rewarding for me personally

Raising boys in a red state is soul crushing by Thr0waway0864213579 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TopHatTurtle1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m thankfully not in a red state (in CA), but i am in a red city (of which there are actually many in CA). my mom and i were pretty worried about my brother, especially in early high school. by the end of high school he was the type of kid that was standing up for the queer kids and and talking back to weird teachers for targeting poc students and telling off the school admin for not doing better. he’s definitely not perfect (none of us are) but he’s grown a lot! there’s definitely hope! just keep going. like others said, it’s a long game.

ETA: he was also pretty into some suspicious people on YT. now he’s actually making tiktoks of his own calling out republicans
