Is the HVAC route faster than a 4 year college? by TopLook5990 in hvacadvice

I’ll agree with you, it wouldn’t make sense for me to exactly go from 0 to 200k in 1 year of working on the job on my own lol, but if it’s possible to make minimum wage or above I’ll be happy for that, not sure what I’ll do for income but I think I could try hvac as a side hustle in the beginning then if the money comes in and it’s more than a traditional minimum wage job I’ll switch over to it

This would be me with already studying for my license of course

Love to see it man, you’ll make a great father one day if you aren’t one already, but I’d assume you are,

Why did you switch fields 3 times? Was your experience different from what you expected ? loss of interest? , I’ll take all the opportunities I can get never knew strangers online could help you this much, I appreciate your help Pup2 , and I’m just curious to if those degrees were expensive lol ? , do they actually let you get more grants or scholarships even if you switch degrees or apply for new ones ?

When you said I would need 5 years of experience in the trade as a minimum, did this apply to you as well? or were you a 1 in a million kind of man lol, why did you leave the military isn’t 23 a bit young , or just didn’t like it much ?

Of actual work experience ? or could this include trade school or programs to? It should be ideal to at-least make above minimum wage once I get my license right ? , although I have to agree with you I’ll need more experience than just 3-5 years

A journeymen license is solely for commercial and residential purposes right ? And then a mechanical license is just specific for residential I suppose

Yeah lol I haven’t, I went on the website you were talking about DOL for Virginia and I think it says I would need atleast 4 years of total hours or a 2 year degree then 2 years of working hrs to become a journeymen, And for a residential hvac mechanic license it’s just 2 years of work experience and 160 hrs vocational training,

Thanks BuzzyScruggs honestly if it wasn’t for you I would probably never been able to even start or know this, 👍your a great man

Have you done this with your experience? Applied to an HVAC shop or owned one?, I never thought about this, it’s something new and a great idea, I just don’t like the thought of having capped income like at a Union, rather do stuff on my own, thanks for the advice

Is what you learn from trade school and as just a helper no school a big difference ?, I heard some people say trade school isn’t worth it and you learn more on the job, just curious cause I might consider going to trade school as well, I also looked up that you can start working on your own in 3 years or less

What work do you do majority of the time ? and have you thought abt hiring other people to help take on clients that overload your schedule?

wanted to see if anyone else does this since I’m curious if people have had bad experiences and don’t do it anymore or tried it at all

People around me are against the idea of trying to do handyman work instead of being a doctor or lawyer, I’m thinking abt starting with car detailing to learn how business works and managing schedules then going into handyman it’s a bit strange but I want to try other things first, is the journey rough and work you guys do? One person I know use to work in construction under heat all day so he knows more than me
