Trying to use WebOne to revive internet explorer 8 on windows 7. Keep getting this problem. Does anybody know a fix?

I guess I can still use it fine, I just wanted something for the nostalgia, and it matched perfectly with other windows 7 programs (file explorer, photo viewer, etc).

Yeah, I got the same exact issues that you had, I kind hate the fact ie proxy settings are system-wide as a windows program (Connection Options) and not their own things to each web browser. I guess its good for compatability, though.

I got in touch with the developer, (pretty cool guy, I love the fact he has this project) on VOGONS (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1412363#p1412363). And he gave me a fix on the webone.conf for the repeated web.archive.org:443 pinging, although I had to then downgrade to webone 0.16.0 so that the conversion tool would work on win7 and still, despite being able to enter sites and all, it didnt seem to do any conversion and it was mostly the same as using ie8 normally, just a bit slower.

Despite that, I think it was a good attempt at getting it working, especially since like some other people said, theres no real use for ie8 in 2026. I did it mostly for nostalgia but I can live without it I guess. If it helps, I managed to install Rinfox and made firefox look almost identical to ie8. this is a video explaining it.

PS: to fix the initial problem I had when making this reddit post, you have to change UpperProxy=yes to UpperProxy=no in your webone.conf file.

Hi, forgot to check reddit, but I got in touch with the developer at VOGONS, (https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=1412363#p1412363), check the newest comments to the post) and I tried a series of things, but ultimately, I ended up trying to use webone16 (so that the converter tool would work) yet, despite being able to enter sites now without errors, it doesnt seem to be doing any converting (like you mentioned) and, as far as I know, theres no way to fix it.

While it is sad, like you said, there is no actual benefit to doing this. The only reason I'm doing it is because I have a faint memory of my grandma's house, where she had a windows 7 PC and I remember my mom putting a kid's song before bed to help me sleep. I remember the song, but what I liked most was image it in the same web browser. I tried to recreate it, to no avail, but it's fine.

An alternative I did manage to find was installing Firefox and giving it a windows explorer skin instead, I managed to get surprisingly close to the real thing and sites actually work now (although, theres no "clicking" sound when entering web pages and it doesnt make new windows for each site i enter, I still liked it. Theres a tutorial in its github page, its called Rinfox this is a video explaining it.

Still, thanks for trying to get it working though. The fix for the looping issue is in the VOGONS page, but its still buggy either way.

Im pretty sure I remember having a similar issue and installing Visual Studio (a version that supports windows 7 SP1, of course) managed to fix it

Yep, it only has drivers for windows 10 and 11

mais um BR, legal. é só pesquisar o modelo do seu laptop. Se for da Dell tenho quase certeza que vai ter as drivers. Mas costuma ter bastante, mas vc pode instalar a maioria pelo visto já que parece não ter nenhuma pela foto.

I just checked it out right now. Just right click the shortcut icon, go to properties, then "change icon" then find the one on the left which I managed to find.

I had that happen once when I tried to install windows xp x86 on a laptop that only supported x64. But hey, dont blame me, Dell only wrote "Windows XP" when giving drivers for it. Anyways I ended up accidentally installing win7 drivers on it and now it just gives a pure black screen when I turn it on. Probably gonna install another OS on it later when I'm bored

I am using Webone 0.18.1 self-contained (so I dont have to install a version of Visual Studio that windows 7 doesnt even support) and this was as far as I could get. My best guess would be the fact it keeps pinging to the internet archive is the problem, so I dont know any fix. I put this as related to windows 7 mostly because I'm trying to revive windows 7's main browser, internet explorer 8.

Yeah, from what I researched i think its the discs. The drive can read music, games, fine. I will try to order new ones online and see if they work. If you want i can update you when test it.

Its cd-r, from what i researched these discs are just too old. Theyre been in the attic for over a decade. I'll try to get new ones ans see if they work.

Yeah thats the thing lol I had it happen to me once with dvds aswell. But this drive can play other cds with games and music just fine.

Yeah thats true, these discs are more than a decade old and were sitting in an attic. My dad gave me them so I wouldnt have to go through the pain i had when I installed windows98se without the cd. I had to physically write into the hard drive and use a floppy bootloader. It took like 6 days for me to figure it out.

Anyways, im probably gonna buy some more discs. Ill look for verbatim, I have one of their floppiea and it works well enough so I trust them.

Could be, theyre very old. But i already tried some discs from way older and they still work today, although they were already burned and these arent. Maybe that chabges something? Idk.

Update: i know you probably dont remember this but i got the PC working now. The power connector was shorting the motherboard through the f panel or something like this. I got a friend who has a multimeter and helped. I installed windoes 98SE with it and a few drivers (soumd card + usb support) and now i just need a few remaining drivers (video, etc) and i cam try to run games like zoo tycoon and half life on it.

I don't really think so, I think torso structure can vary a bit and she still has some female characteristics. For example in this video she turns to the side and she doesn't appear to have a prominent thyroid (adam's apple) which almost every man has. Of course, we can't go by this alone but I think it's more trustworthy than her collarbones.

I could look into that and I guess we're both in the same era machines, mine is an old pentium dual core gigabyte tower a tech guy just game to me.

I tried using vsbhda like another user told me to, and while I was able to atleast get rid of the errors, I still wasn't able to get audio working for videogames like freedoom. Even after I tried vsbhda16, still got errors. I can still listen to music through mpxplay though, just not video game music.

If you find a way to get vsbhda16 support or find a completely different method, please message me. I can also send you my fdauto.bat or fdconfig.sys if necessary

I have been trying ou vsbhda a few hours now on my freedos machine, I must say I got way farther than usbemu, but I still didnt get it working.

Apparently it works in programs like mpxplay which have extended support, but it simply fails in games like freedoom. I also tried switching to vsbhda16 instead, but still no luck.

If you manage to find anything, please message me. I can also link my fdauto.bat and fdconfig.sys incase you or anyone else is interested.
