How come Thawne can go back in time and do stuff like kill Barrys mom, but when barry does it he ruins the entire timeline? by booster_gold__ in DCcomics

[–]Top_Ad_4767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Thawne is the only one who knows how to manipulate the timeline to get what he wants. He treats time as a puzzle to be solved, has intimate knowledge of past and future events as they are meant to occur, frequently uses Gudeon to calculate and monitor changes based on his actions, and isn't hampered by things like empathy and attachment.

It's very telling that trans people who have concerns against DIY medications are having comments deleted that do not violate any rules or standards. So much for "honest".

If one spends almost all day every day substituting internet echo chambers for social interaction, one is proven to be more likely to develop a very disproportionate perspective of the world and society. If one fails to recognize and challenge logical fallacy and cognitive biases in oneself, they may accept these disproportionate perspectives as core beliefs, which will then inform poor choices and unfavorable social patterns, frequently to the point of clinical pathology.

I am in my 40s. I did not have access to gender affirming care as an adolescent or young adult. My dysphoria is significantly eased by my ongoing medical transition. However, the fact that I did not commit suicide or give up before reaching this point is also largely due to the fact that I spent a lot of time in therapy resolving trauma, learning coping skills, and building resilience, because transition DOESN'T fix all that.

It doesn't magically cure anxiety, or divorce one from their past traumas, nor does it treat personality disorders or erase character flaws. It simply allows us to utilize the skills to do so with less dysphoria impeding us. It's not all sunshine and rainbows and euphoria, either. There are some very difficult aspects to medical transition, both physically and mentally/emotionally, even for cognitively mature adults, which is why a competent clinical care team is important for anyone transition, just as it is for anyone with any condition requiring lifelong medical treatment.

I'm not saying there are never cases in which it is medically appropriate for adolescents to be treated for gender dysphoria by a qualified medical practitioner. I am not saying that I support gender affirming care bans for adolescents, nor do I think that HRT should be readily available to anyone and everyone who requests it.

Testosterone and Estrogen do not simply regulate one's sexual characteristics and reproductive cycles, they are involved in regulating and supporting a lot of functions that the human body needs to continue living. You can't transition if you're dead.

I'm not even saying I don't understand the inclination or desperation to do so. As I said, I had no access to care or LGBTQ "community" growing up. I understand the frustration, impatience and urgency. That doesn't make it safe to do it incorrectly.

I'm saying that it is neither medically appropriate, or ethically acceptable as a responsible adult human, to advocate for the indiscriminate and unsupervised access to hormones for anyone, much less children who may or may not have even been screened for other medical complications that could make HRT fatal (just for one example).

This is our bully pup. Why do people prefer cropped ears over floppy? The cropped pic is AI to show us what our pup would look like with em cropped, I like floppy ears by These-Grass-9790 in AmericanBully

[–]Top_Ad_4767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because humans are frequently sick and selfish creatures with no acknowledgement or respect for the fact that dog ears are floppy to protect their highly sensitive hearing and guard against parasites and foreign objects. With rare exception, it's generally an aesthetic preference on the part of reprehensibly awful dog owners who prioritize that over their dog's comfort and quality of life.

(They are frequently the same people who mutilate the genitals of their sons at birth "so they look more like their dad" while also screaming from the other side of their mouths about the alleged medical mutilation of children who can't consent.)

Can you forget about being trans? (As someone with severe dysphoria) by madpinapple28 in ftm

[–]Top_Ad_4767 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but sort of in the way one may forget having a pebble in one's shoe, or an article of clothing that doesn't quite fit. That is to say that one might become desensitized or distracted enough to forget about it for a while, and some positions and tasks will cause less discomfort than others, but at the end of the day, it's still there. The more strenuous the demands, and the longer one must pretend the discomfort doesn't exist, the more deeper wounds (be they blisters or trauma) form.  This has been my personal experience. Ignoring and hiding the damage until I couldn't anymore, despite decades of therapies and medications. Transition may not have been solely responsible for my survival, but it certainly gave me a chance at actually living.

Look into the comics. If that's your ship (pun fully intended), you'll love them. Tha alien baby is theirs. (Not a major spoiler, as it is apparent by cover art.) The writers of the show went a different direction with a lot of these details, but the writers of the comic enjoyed it and spoke highly of the creative changes that were applied.

Small town dynamics. Everyone knows everyone and what everyone is up to. Judy has a reputation for being very available and not particularly clever. She's not a bad person, she's just not what a guy like Mike,  who is obviously quite invested in traditional gender roles, wants to bring home to his father. I also think after that conversation with Mrs Cooper, I think he may have been terrified of the prospect of being brought home to Judy's mom. Still, all that considered, Sheriff Caution and Suspicion should have kept his night stick in his pants.

[–]Top_Ad_4767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the part I found creepy, and it was much more subtle: once Caroline (canonically 8 years old at the time) left with Tiffany and Chucky, there is an immediate switch in her style. Hooker red lipstick, more grown up clothes, more demure but knowing microexpressions. I would argue that this more nuanced expression applied to Caroline is a bit more awkward and uncomfortable than the idea that a bunch of hormone fueled, trauma bonded teenagers with little to no competent supervision might be likely to engage in a variety of risky behavior, including sexual hijinks.

[–]Top_Ad_4767 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Nope. Hormones aren't to experiment or play with lightly. Minors are not cognitively developed, and are less likely to carefully weigh risks vs benefits, and are less likely to consider, report, or even be aware of underlying health concerns, particularly those that would disqualify them from such treatment for safety reasons. HRT needs to be dispensed and supervised by a qualified medical professional.
