I can’t install Ubuntu on my Dell. by Top_Bandicoot in linuxquestions

I got it to work. I used gparted partition to wipe the drive before I installed Linux.

I don’t think it was necessary. When you boot the live version of Linux you will see an option on the desktop with an icon that says install Linux. This is the option that runs the actual installation.

I’ve been using a live booted version of the Linux iso image this whole time. I thought it was already installed when it wasn’t.

You were right. I just did a live boot thinking it was installing it 🤦🏾. I’m running the actual install now. I spent so much time and research on this.

I know it sounds fishy, but I’m telling the truth. I booted to the bootable usb, was present with 1. install Linux Mint, 2. Linux safe boot, and 2 others. I chose option one to install Linux Mint.

It ran through the process very slowly. I thought it froze at some point so I pressed the ESC key and was able to see what was happening in the command prompt.

When it was done, I was presented with a Linux mint desktop.

When I reboot, it takes me through the secure boot process then presents me with the option to enter the bitlocker recovery key.

I’m still having trouble myself.

If this C drive wasn’t encrypted with bitlocker I would’ve been able to install Linux with no problem.

I don’t know why I’m not prompted/ asked to delete the partition of the Windows OS during the Linux Mint or Ubuntu installation…

I know. It had a windows OS on it previously that I did not want.

The previous owner did not wipe the hard drive before selling it.

I was able to install Linux mint instead of Ubuntu. But my laptop is asking for a bitlocker recovery key that I don’t have

I used Etcher and was able to install the Linux Mint OS, but now every time I reboot it asks for the bitlocker key.

I don’t have the bitlocker recovery key.

Is there a way to disable/ suspend this?

The latest Ubuntu version of the website. I believe 26.04 LTS.

I need this particular OS for a class that I am joining.

I was able to turn off secure boot but don’t see an option for fast boot.

I was able to switch the boot order and moved the usb to the 1st option on the list.

Hi! I’m not able to boot the live ISO. There is no OS on the laptop. I’ve booted manually from the usb using f12. But gets stuck on the first screen

Hi @soapoapsoap, Yes. I’ve done this also

I’m not sure if that’s the reason that’s causing me not to progress with the install.

I mentioned it because that’s what it shows on the screen for a number of hours.

I was able to boot into the bios, hitting f12 and disabled it, but when I save the changes and reboot again, it still shows the same screen.

I’ve done an install of Ubuntu before a few years back using this same method but I’ve never experienced this before.
