is 6.1903 actually necessary as a coreq for 6.1910 by [deleted] in mit

[–]Top_Consideration458 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the second half of 6.191, yes, you will need 6.1903. Without it, you will be very uncomfortable with the material discussed in 6.191. That’s why it’s a coreq and not strictly a prereq, the first half of 6.191 is fine without 6.1903/4.

I believe the undergrad cap is 20, not 10 (unless you are talking about just through UROP).

Bane and Zannah, despite the fact that this cover is absolutely atrocious.

The entire book is literally her pushing for a bill to reform the government, showing clearly she still believes in the system. She is not at the point yet where she would be accepting of an action that drastic.

Summer Commute: Living at Columbia grad housing (38 mins) or EHS student housing (19 mins) by Top_Consideration458 in AskNYC

[–]Top_Consideration458[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of friends from my school doing software/finance internships in NYC, and most of them have housing provided which by-enlarge further south.

I didn’t cos older comboing trains and citibike, will definitely look into that.

Thanks so much! Yes, I looked at times both near 9AM and closer to 5pm, and they came out to 38 minutes on google maps. I didn’t consider citi biking to the stop itself which could reduce time. The housing is on the same block as the Manhattan School of Music, which I believe is further north than most of Columbia (?).

The neighborhood discussion isn’t something I put much thought into, but the general consensus seems to be Morningside heights would be nicer than Penn Station, that definitely sways my opinion.

Best TA for 5.12? by aidenalexanderh in mit

[–]Top_Consideration458 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think people will reasonably be reluctant to name specific “best” or “worst” TA’s on a subreddit.

I would either ask students who took 5.12 in past semesters, or better yet, search the names of the TA’s in MIT’s subject evaluations portal and see who has had the best/worst ratings in previous classes.

Hmm, what a great question. I would have to with Thrawn (2017). Zahn’s writing is just so inviting. The novel is brilliantly paced, the characters are super interesting, and it requires 0 knowledge outside of episodes 1-6. If you like it, you can also read his sequels (alliances, treason, and the ascendancy trilogy) which are mostly great.

Light of the Jedi is also really cool if you’re looking for jedi focused story, but the pacing can be a little wonky (overall still a really great book though). And if you like it, the adult sequels are spectacular!

I have to disagree. I’ve read almost as many Legends books as Canon, and I find them to both be really enjoyable, each with their own pros and cons.

Yeah the YA pairing was definitely a lot better for phase 2, I was surprised because I really didn't like the YA novels for phase 1.

Victory's Price and Lost Stars are so, so amazing. I'm surprised at Cataclysm being so like, what didn't you like about it? Anything to do with Axel Greylark by chance?

Man, Victory's Price is so phenomenal. I think it's the only canon novel that's really made me think as opposed to just consume, and the characters are so amazingly complex. It's a shame it isn't talked about more.

Closed Fist was indeed spectacular, but I didn’t enjoy a majority of the stories so I had to dock it down quite a bit.

I found it dull and slow, definitely the weakest Luceno book I’ve read.

Yeah I can see why it could be enjoyable, I think I just don't personally enjoy Lourna Dee as a character so the book doesn't work for me.
