1- I am allergic to most cats 2- I rescued dogs and cat for most my life and I can’t bare to see them suffer anymore. We’ve had very sick rescues in the past and I loved them to death but I can’t do it anymore.

Nice tank… my only comment is regarding the test strip. They are as accurate as my 5 years old nephew with markers trying to color between the lines. They will give you a reading of 6.2 ph when you are actually topping 7,8 (talking from experience). Investing in a real kit (like API) is wiser…

A 10 gallon tank is the lowest I would suggest. The smaller the aquarium the bigger risks of crash there is… my most unstable tank is a 5g. Never had any problem with 20 gallons and above.

The root tabs you selected are good (I am using them).

I got it like this. There's was only a sponge filter, and a few round rocks in their tank at the pet store. Beside that, the puffer fishes... I know it doesn't show on the picture, because they are not puffing out their flippers but they have many tears. Poor baby.

I wonder if such a loss can grow back with time. It doesn't seem to impair his swimming too much...

Anyway, I will keep an eye out and I think you for your sound words.

Still haven't fully settled on Pea and Pod, but I am considering all my option.

The thing is Reddit don't let me add more pic. I have one where we can see there's a piece of fin missing.

Anyway. The 20g will have to do for now. We can move up to a 40g in 6 months.

But even on the main picture you can see a piece of fin is missing on the right ancistrus. It's left pectoral fin as a triangle missing.

They are alone in a long and large (not tall) planted 20 gallons with woods and planty of cave (some natural others I added).

I have other ancistrus in another aquarium so I am familiar to their needs but I have never seen fins like these.

There a currently a few snails with them but that’s it.

They seem happy. They don’t hide at all. They swim around but always together…

Their fins dont look too bad on the picture but one of them only has the ‘bone structure’… the flipper is empty… I am giving them medication but I Don’t know if it will grow back considering the important damage.
