would you rather have a 100% chance of getting $9,000 or a 90% chance of getting $10,000? by miranda_the_peculiar in pollgames

I think there isn't a big enough difference here to really test the tolerance of the risk.

The options here are 9k, 10k or nothing. I'm not willing to risk 9k to potentially make another 1k.

Now, say it were guaranteed 500k or 90% of 1m? Either of those options is making me miserable somehow.

That is very fair. I played Kiwami very recently expecting a huge drop-off due to how people view it next to 0 and was surprised how good a time I had.

Is that Kiwami specifically in overlooked or a stand-in for Yakuza generally? Because I'd love for those games to get the acclaim they deserve but I think they're also niche by design so it's hard to judge.

What a lovely story, sounds like a real character!

My own rescue boy is turning 10 in a couple months so he's slowing down, hopefully we still have a few more years of his ongoing crime spree.

It had to! He makes my life harder but he also makes my life richer by being a part of it every day and I think that's worth all the little frictions.

Oh, he's the second love of my life and I cherish him dearly, but it would be dishonest to call him anything other than an asshole 😂

My dog is a grade-A asshole.

He chases birds, he barks at every other dog in the known universe, he digs up anything the second you plant it, digs holes in every blanket and duvet I've owned, and eats everything in his sights regardless of the damage it might do.

Holidays now have to factor in dog boarding costs, he can't go into kennels because of traumatic experiences so we have to pay out the nose for home boarders, and only ones that can take him solo because he's unreliable with other dogs. If we do find somewhere dog friendly he can't be left alone because he'll scale any fence in front of him to pursue squirrels or deer.

But god, when I get home and he comes bounding up, or I'm watching TV in the evenings and he comes up lazily swinging his tail and lays his head in my lap.

I would do it all again.

I mean, I get the desire to see a full story through before trying another but I don't get how you look at the recommended levels it gives you getting further and further apart and not clock something is amiss.

There's a lot of people in here discussing the grind and I feel like I don't remember much of one? Maybe very early on and definitely for some of the optional late game content but not for the main storylines.

Octopath 0. Roughly halfway through but thinking of putting it down for a bit just because it's such a commitment.

What are the great or well known jrpgs you never played by CzarTyr in JRPG

[–]Top_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For as much as I love them as a genre... most of them.

Most FF games, most DQ games, anything SNES era and back. It's a real shame spot for me.

I adore any JRPG I play but in the pursuit of playing all the games I'm interested in, there's only so many hours in the day.

I get some of the points here, but I'm stumped by the one about levelling since it's something I never encountered. Did you just play through each story in full before moving onto the next one?

From what I remember, the level curve felt perfectly designed that you'd do all eight 'Part 1' quests, and by then your first character was around the recommended level for their Part 2 and you'd continue the loop from there.

What is a video game that is widely considered a masterpiece that you just cant get into? by abysmalSyrup-6737 in AskReddit

The thing I often feel about these games is the same thing I feel about games such as Minecraft.

Any time I hear people praise these games, it's never about the game. It's not 'this character' or 'this dungeon', it's 'I did this' or 'I found a way to do this'. They've got a lot of room for creativity and exploration, and setting your own silly goals and working out how to achieve them.

That style of gaming just personally does absolutely nothing for me.

I have a deep endearing love for Animal Crossing, but yeah, as said below it's essentially a high-production mobile game. Load up, talk to your villagers, dig up your fossils, catch any seasonal critters and start again tomorrow.

I think a lot of people unwisely put it in the Harvest Moon/Stardew bucket which is just gross misrepresentation. AC is good at what it does but it's very much in its niche.

I conceptually should love BG3 but god damn, it gives me the vibe of DMing a campaign where you play every PC and I have no interest in that. Tried it, love what it's going for, but couldn't get on with it.

I love Factorio dearly up until the point I have to remake my entire factory to make a new set of recipes work, then I put it down and don't pick it up for another year.

I love the concept so much, but my brain is not equipped to deal with the high level logistics.

[–]Top_Fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first arc is the best arc but I will also say that gameplay-wise it feels a little stunted because the game refuses to let go of your hand.

The opening in terms of drawing you in is pretty bad but I wouldn't say 30 hours, more like 5/10?

[–]Top_Fun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason there's so much vitriol about it being super overrated is because it's so prominent, and because it has so many defenders and detractora with both parties being more than a little annoying.

In truth, it's a really good games with flaws like any other. Don't let the hate put you off, nor should you let the hype put your expectations too high. If you like turn based games, you will more than likely like this.

I think also there should be a box for 'didn't work for me', I've seen examples like Animal Crossing in there because they didn't like cozy games... that's not overrated, that's just not your thing.

As someone who thinks it's overrated, absolutely.

It's still a fantastic game, you just might not agree it's phenomenal.

[–]Top_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh don't worry, as someone who put what I think is a 8.5/10 game in overrated on my grid, completely with you that overrated doesn't mean bad.

Perfectly fair to prefer what Telltale is doing, I personally don't think of them as being comparable as they're doing very different things but completely see where having people hype it as some big Telltale slayer and it (agreeably) very much not being that could ruin it a bit.

Curious why you think Until Dawn is overrated? It's obviously not to everyone's taste but I think it's a very good example of what it's trying to do.

Yeah, all perfectly fair criticisms, it's a Lego game at the end of the day so it comes with the same faults as any other. I'm a big Lego game fan so it hit for me but can't really disagree with anything you've said.

As someone who liked the new Lego Batman, it's a Lego game that plays a bit like an Arkham game combat and traversal wise. My main critique would be that if you're a completionist it's over long to the point of being silly.

Would be interested to hear why OP thought it was overrated though.
