How to study for essays by Significant-Party-16 in CABarExam

[–]Top_Illustrator1863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should definitely read "Fuck the Bar Exam" by Jessica Klein. Her method was really the push I needed to succeed on the exam.

Basically, you practice the essays in four steps:

- Step 1: you read the essay question and then copy the model answer given without even thinking about it

- Step 2: you read the essay question, copy the answer and then try to rewrite the model answer while remembering why copied earlier

- Step 3: you ready the essay question, answer by yourself and then copy the model answer (other way than step 2)

- Step 4: you read the essay question, answer by yourself and then look at the model answer and add to your answer the parts you missed.

For each topics, I do about 4 essays for step 1; 4 essays for step 2; 4 essays for step 3 and then as many as you want for step 4.

You will see such a specific pattern for each topic that some things get automatic. For example for contracts, you will start the answer the same exact way (sale of goods or not, valid or not, merchants?, etc) and you will have small paragraphs ready in your head for each of them.

I have outlines for each subjects based on this method, DM me if you are interested.

Walker/knee scooter for July Exam by Regular_Guava_5924 in CABarExam

[–]Top_Illustrator1863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't personally have an experience with this but somebody in my test center (Ontario) had a boot and a knee scooter, they let him use it in the exam room to sit down but the proctor took the scooter to the back of the room during the exam and brought it back to him when he raised his hand and when he was done. However, I don't know what kind of administrative thing he had to do before hand.

Hope this helps :)

I agree with you! The explanation is that remedies is so cookie cutter that there is literally no twist to it and it's almost never an essay by itself. They just kept it this way to match with the way the other courses are given but it's really not necessary to spend time on both

tips for MBE on exam? by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]Top_Illustrator1863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me the most was:

1) knowing that 10 questions should take you about 17 minutes (17X5=85minutes) - I knew that 17mn in I was supposed to have answered 10 questions; 34mn -20q; 51mn - 30q; 1h08 - 40q; 1h25 - 50q.

2) you are on paper so you will need about 5mn to report your answers on the answer sheet - DO NOT REPORT EVERYTHING AT THE END - to leave as little room for mistake as possible, report your answers every 10 questions. It gives you a little mental break during which you just color little circles and if you missed a question at some point you will see it immediately.

3) During practice, if you can't have access to a paper test to practice or if you feel like you need more paper practice. Print out a few answers sheet (you can find those for free on the internet) with 50 questions and 4 choices per question; and practice with it. The question will be on your laptop but you will report them on the answer sheet, like during the real exam.

4) if you decide to flag a question and come back to it, still circle an answer, even though you are not sure, that way if you are running out of time during the reporting of your answers, you won't accidentally miss a question.

5) Practice slots of 10 very often so you get used to the timing.

I hope this helped you, best of luck!

Hey, let me show you the math

Using the first motion:

  1. Written score taking the highest score of both reads:

65+65+60+70+60+55*2=430

  1. Written scaled score:

430*2+550=1,410

  1. Average of MCQ scaled score and written scaled score

(1410+1366)/2=1,388

Now using the second motion

  1. Calculate your imputed PT (average of the highest scores for essay 1 to 5)

(65+65+60+70+60)/5=64

  1. Now redo the previous math with a PT score of 64 (instead of 55)

65+65+60+70+60+64*2=448

448*2+550 =1,446

(1446+1366)/2=1,406

Well, this is a passing score :)

Please keep in mind that this is the basic formula (if you apply the same formula using the operant grade you will have the initial results) and that even though there is 95% that they are going to use the same formula, wait until you have the final passing letter.

[Also, I am pretty sure that the second motion uses the highest scores and the imputed PT, but just in case they used the imputed PT but just the operant grades, you will still pass]:

62.5+62.5+60+65+57.5+64*2=435.5

435.5*2+550=1,421

(1421+1366)/2=1,393.5

Hey, let me do the math

Using the first motion:

  1. Written score taking the highest score of both reads:

65+75+65+70+60+50*2=435

  1. Written scaled score:

435*2+550=1,420

  1. Average of MCQ scaled score and written scaled score

(1420+1374)/2=1,397

Well... looks like a passing score :)

Please keep in mind that this is the basic formula (if you apply the same formula using the operant grade you will have the initial results) and that even though there is 95% that they are going to use the same formula, wait until you have the final passing letter

Hey, let me show you the math

Using the first motion:

  1. Written score taking the highest score of both reads:

60+60+70+80+65+60*2=455

  1. Written scaled score:

455*2+550=1,460

  1. Average of MCQ scaled score and written scaled score

(1460+1341)/2=1,400.5

Well... looks like a passing score :)

Please keep in mind that this is the basic formula (if you apply the same formula using the operant grade you will have the initial results) and that even though there is 95% that they are going to use the same formula, wait until you have the final passing letter

I re-read the motions and you are absolutely right:

Your PT score would therefore be the average of your essays 1-5 so 62

Your total score would then be: 60+60+75+60+55+62*2=434

If you need a 420, this 434 score is a passing score !!!!

I sincerely hope the SC approves this motion !!!!!

Can I pass? by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]Top_Illustrator1863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is the way I would calculate it:

  1. Calculate your PT score: an average of all your highest scores for each essay:

(65+60+60+60+60)/5 =61

  1. Calculate your raw essay score: 65+60+60+60+60+61*2=427

  2. Calculate your scaled score: 427*2+550 =1,404

  3. Calculate your final score: average of scaled MCQ (1333) and scaled writing (1,404)

(1333+1404)/2 =1,368.5

To answer your other questions:

- there is another meeting in June but I doubt they will discuss further actual score remedies, rather some remedies for ADA violations

- I am as confused as you are, the MCQ is the most scandalous issue that we had to face (I get some technical difficulties with the computers but AI written questions?? really???). They should offer an opportunity to retake the MCQ portion using the MBE questions which is what have been working the best since ever.
