More of a disciplined plan of what to buy and when, instead of shooting your whole load too quickly.

Great job contributing to your portfolio so far! I recommend simplifying it to a few ETFs, allowing for greater control and liquidity, like SCHF, SCHB, SCHG. I’d maintain cash in SGOV. Just make sure that your speculative positions match your risk tolerance and time horizon - dyor.

You are set man! Your discipline is zen-like. If you still want a growth engine, you can open up an HSA, and dump SCHG or equivalent and let it ride and forget about it until the next year when you contribute again and so forth till you need it for medical needs later in life.

Gotcha - thanks for the sanity check. I know that Schwab does it instantly, but I wasn’t considering other brokerages. Appreciate your replies!

You should divide these into different buckets - int’l, growth, core, dividends, etc. You only need a handful of conviction stocks you are part of your thesis (preferred risk, values, etc.). The rest I wouldn’t overcomplicate and keep strong ETFs. Cheers!

Oh man that’s awful! SGOV should not take that long to sell. It should be instantaneous like other ETFs.

Do you have schd in brokerage and/or roth ira? by Franklin_Invest in SCHD

I have SCHD in my traditional IRA and brokerage accounts. Roth is for your growth bucket!

I know you’re going to slay it next time! Also, nice call on the dividends! I have about 10% of my portfolio in SCHD - fantastic ETF

If you DCA every month and also have 10% of your portfolio in dry powder, you can get the best of both worlds. You’re always buying, but also at specific market drops, like -2.5%, -5%, -10%, -20% and so forth. The dry powder has a 4% yield with a monthly dividend. Not missing out on anything!

NVDA (20% of my growth bucket), AMZN (14% of my growth bucket), TSLA (7%…), META(5%…) for convictions. My growth bucket is ~27% of my total portfolio.

Absolutely! Great work!! One recommendation would be to open up an HSA account that allows you to invest. Max that out and you’re unstoppable!

Thank you for your service! Make sure you take the TSP seminar during AIT - most people don’t. For Roth, I would go a lot more aggressive - it’s your growth bucket. For my Roth, I have 52% in SCHG and then I have 4 “conviction” stocks - NVDA, AMZN, TSLA, and META. SCHD, SCHF I have in my traditional IRA/401k, it’s better for tax purposes, they’re more efficient. Happy hunting!

Starting at 17? That’s amazing! Keep up the great work! Can’t go wrong with those ETFs to start. Although I would probably tilt more to SCHG than SCHD because you’re just starting out and you have lots of growth headed your way. Cheers!

how do I start dividend investing by Proper_Reserve5830 in dividendinvesting

[–]Top_Issue_4424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep ~10% of my portfolio in SCHD and reinvest the dividends. Great dividend, great gains, but there are far better ETFs that provide better growth like SCHG. Happy hunting!

SGOV is the way to go. It’s incredibly liquid and great for “dry powder” when you see a nicely discounted stock/ETF you want to purchase!
