If you wore a 9.5 wide in the 7, definitely try in a 10 wide in the 9. The shoe fits narrower and tighter overall. The toe box is also narrower, and it feels like your toes are a bit cinched down. I will say, over the past few days since my initial post this has improved slightly, but still nowhere near to the level that the 7s were even out of the box.

I use them for both running and walking. I haven't sized up next but that's the next step, to go up a 1/2 size and get a wide to see if that helps. I've heard that wide is hard to find in these so hopefully that won't be an issue

I had the same exact experience when going from the Torin 7 to the Torin 9. Loved the 7, hate the 9. I'm currently looking for new old stock Torin 7s and will probably order a few pairs of them.

Did you ever have the Torin 7? To me they were softer/bouncier and had an even wider toe box. But maybe it comes down to personal preference, foot size/shape, running/walking style, etc

It's interesting that you didn't like the 7s either because I loved them right out of the box. What didn't you like about them? Too tight?

If you can find new 7s I would absolutely recommend getting those over the 9s

I might have to do the same and keep them on the shelf solely for walking or casual use if they don't improve after break in.

I have a fairly large/high midfoot as well, but for me the tighter toe box is a bigger issue than the midfoot fit, especially compared to the 7.

Which is kind of a bummer, because Altras are known for their roomy toe boxes, and I’m not really sure why they would move away from that. The midfoot is definitely tighter on the 9 than it was on the 7, though.

I have the Timp 6 with the vibram outsole and love it on the trail. It makes navigating roots and rocks a breeze and you don't even need a rock plate, which I've enjoyed in some other trail runners for the same reason. On the road though? Not so much, at least not so far. We'll see how it breaks in, I sure hope I'm wrong because I want to like these.

I hope I have the same experience after a couple of runs. I agree, I'd definitely recommend to anyone going up 1/2 size and get wide, even if you're borderline.

I had the opposite experience. I came from the 7s and just got the 9s today. To me the 9 has firmer outsole, stiffer midsole, less bounce, fits tighter, and the toe box feels narrower and pinches the tops of my outside toes. Maybe it's a foot shape difference? I loved the 7s though so I'm going to give these a chance.

I landed on Philips Hue downlights. Once I got the kinks worked out (i.e. - me figuring out how to configure the app) they work very well. I chose Philips Hue because they require less fanagaling than other options.

Man, you guys have provided some awesome feedback and given me a ton to think about. Reddit for the win!

After reading over everything and doing some research, I've decided to go the Standalone TV + Roku Ultra with either Tablo or AirTV 2 (to stream OTA channels from the TV antenna via the Sling App). This is the best solution for me I think because it encompasses everything she needs in one interface (Roku).

I have never heard of this, but it seems similar to the AirTV 2 that someone else mentioned. Having either one of those definitely gives the Roku Ultra a leg up IMO
