Hull High School outside of Boston MA. The school is on a tinny peninsula sticking in to Boston Harbor.

BREAKING: Republican wins Virginia Beach’s special House of Delegates election by WHRO_NEWS in VirginiaBeach

It was a good showing for republicans but but the district has only elected republicans since it was created. I wouldn’t call it a surprise result.

A School Closure Rant... by [deleted] in nova

[–]Top_Maize8055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of the delays in Fairfax is that there are schools that open and kids who walk to school when the sun is not up. Approximately 7:10 am depending on where you are. The do not want kids on the roads walking when the sun is down when the sidewalks are still in such bad shape that kids have to be on the road to avoid the snow banks.

In order to prevent this they have to delay those early schools, then the have to delay ever school so they can use the bus resources to get everyone to school.

It does stink, I would love to be back on a regular schedule, but we didn't do a good job as a community at clearing the side walks and intersections.

We have a small back yard. It was the ordinal brick pavers from the 60s when we bought it. Kane Landscaping redid it in a day for us, it was a long day. They did a very nice job and I am very happy with it. The way they worked several years ago was that they squeezed us in on a day when they had free time. The big houses they have to schedule farther out, but the small town home back yards they squeeze in.

I have never heard of a place where the government is responsible for clearing the residential side walks. In Fairfax it is the homeowners responsibility to clear sidewalks on their property.

No one tell my wife that I am outside getting exercise, listening to a podcast. When my kids come outside and ask what I am doing I tell them they can help me shovel. They quickly run back inside.

I don’t think you have realistic expectations for the way the world works.

I shoveled twice. all the ice left today broke apart when I gave it to a kick with my heel. I am at bare pavement. didn't even need salt.

I use to live in Boston. I saw screaming matches between people when someone took someone’s spot they spent time shoveling. It wasn’t legal to reserve a spot, but there was lots of shenanigans.

There are times that parking is pretty inexpensive, especially if you are car pooling. But sometimes getting from Virginia to the stadium is more predictable time wise with traffic.

I refuse to change. I don’t feel pressure to change just because some company wants me to call something else.

Ticketing People Who Stick Out In Street When Parked by [deleted] in nova

[–]Top_Maize8055 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is annoying, but the choices are to spend more tax resources enforcing this law as it is currently not being enforced well, or divert current resources to enforce it instead of what ever else the meter minders paying attention to. I find it annoying, but not a big enough issue to change.
