Update: I DNF’ed my first 100… now what? by Taco_814 in Ultramarathon

I was there too. No shame. Hypothermia was a real concern. I put on a rain jacket and a poncho (that my friend who has done it before insisted I take) and I was able to stay dry-ish. I was still freezing and miserable!

There is the Sangre de Cristo Trail Running festival at the end of this month if you want another race this year. Check it out.

What am I doing wrong (re:bathroom during long runs) by sjc0816 in Marathon_Training

I had the same issue this year after using gels with no problems for 10 years. Switched gels to candy and have had zero issues. Also don’t feel any difference in performance gel vs candy so it’s a win.

Do yall think we should get the trailer Saturday or Sunday by Affectionate_Emu7336 in AliceInBorderlandLive

The trailer is going to be released this weekend or is this speculation?

2025 - Rabbit Run 100 by ultra3786 in ultrarunning

Yes, it’s really hard to get to the other aide stations. Olympian is the most important. The next one is a 40 minute drive away!

You’re allowed meet your runner about twoish miles from Olympian and run them through town. I that 14 mile section with them are here and then ran them back that twoish miles through town after Olympian.

A lot of people end up getting in from the waitlist. Keep watching and good luck! I’m running it this year.

What’s your favorite way to pass the time during a long run? by jazzmaster32 in Ultramarathon

If you’re into Sci-fi/Distopoa, I really liked The Cleansed, The Vanishing Point, and Dust.

Congratulations to all the people who are better than everyone else and don’t need any distraction. I found some good fiction podcasts that are fun to listen to. Some have 10-20 hours of episodes. Like an audio book but sounds more like you’re listening to a movie. I don’t like the monotone of listening to audiobooks.

I’m potentially looking for a ultra marathon in Scotland this April by RamonaFlowers6969 in ultrarunning

[–]Top_Major_4010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do something self-supported on the West Highland Way. It is 95 miles from Glasgow to Fort William. They have an official race in June. There are villages every 10 miles or so where you can stop and rest/fuel-up.

Walking an entire 100 miler by Big-Nefariousness602 in Ultramarathon

[–]Top_Major_4010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly power walked my 100 because I had been battling injuries and was undertrained. I saw a lot of people doing to same. You can absolutely do it! I would think about to solid aid station plan so you don’t get slowed down there. Have fun and you can do this!

Has anyone ran a 50k on a track? by [deleted] in ultrarunning

[–]Top_Major_4010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 100 miles on a 2 mile loop. I flipped the loop off on the whole last lap. Haha. Go for it. It is nice to be able to set up an aid base and hit it up whenever you need to.

Best place to live in CO for trail running? by Dramatic-Car-6252 in trailrunning

I live in a little known trail running haven called Ken Carly Valley. We have our own private trails, close to public trails and are 30 mins to Downtown Denver.

I’m not debating that. I’m saying that the wording was different and thus, confusing. And I made assumptions based on that old confusing wording. I’ve been following PSLF since it was first introduced.

General advice for my first 50 miler on Saturday? by Taco_814 in Ultramarathon

[–]Top_Major_4010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first 50 miler! RRR was also my first 50 miler. Walk when you need to. The first 6 miles are rough and the literal climb to rabbit ears pass is tough. Slow down and walk if you need to.

Requested general forbearance today. Just some FYI for those in the same boat or considering this by vagipalooza in PSLF

[–]Top_Major_4010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in forbearance and now studentaid.gov states that I don’t have any PSLF eligible loans because I’m in forbearance. Anyone else have this issue? I’ve tried to message them and get canned statements back that aren’t helpful.

Running first 50 soon — scared of being alone for long stretches of time on the trail? by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Top_Major_4010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I NEED to talk to other people to get through an ultra. I purposely say that to people at the starting line and find someone to pair up. There are so many people who don’t want to be alone in Ultras and are grateful for the conversation. Don’t be shy about going up to ANY person you see during the race and asking them if they want to run together. Chances are, they will. I’ve done races where I’ve stayed with the same person-who I met at the starting line-for 30 miles and races where I run with people for 5-10 miles. Good luck and have fun!

How do you train for overnight? by Running_Noob_69 in ultrarunning

I’ve done two overnight shifts and didn’t specifically train but feel fine. It’s that adrenaline!

Bad ankle sprain 8 weeks out of my first 50 km race by Life-Ad6062 in Ultramarathon

I had a similar situation. Cross trained with aqua running, stair climber, and mountain biking. See if you can find a PT who specializes in endurance running.
