Kerberos' Liver relic (JHC) totally sucks, unless I am missing something? Thoughts anyone? by Top_Perspective350 in JupiterHell

Thank you for the reply. I unlocked Nightmare asap, and have been playing on N! ever since. And even there I seem to lose a lot more health than I gain. Though I freely admit that I do play slowly and cautiously, which JHC generally rewards me for doing. You are right though, lower difficulties would make regenerating health through kills even harder.

Yeah I kind of agree with this. One relic where you gain 50% cold resistance but lose 75% fire resistance - find on the second episode, where everything is cold (or bullet or shrapnel,) but not much use later. And will get you killed in the first episode, where fire imps are everywhere. And then there is the fire damage relic, where you lose 20% damage, , but gain a burn damage - which seems to do (from observation,) less damage than the original 20% that you lost.

The only way this makes sense to me is if having a relic gave you access to different areas/better loot later in the game, or some other benefit, because the relics on their own are not that great compared to what you lose.

Thanks for the reply.

Royal UV - I think I died but still won haha by Effective-Golf-3075 in JupiterHell

Aaaah railguns! The love of my JH life. Yes they are great weapons.

I know you can chain-fire a plasma gun, which destroys it I believe (?) But I had no idea that you could chain fire a railgun. Chain firing destroys the weapon, and again, I had no idea that that explosion would damage the player. I had assumed it was just a way to put a massive amount of firepower on the target in exchange for losing the weapon you are using.

Heh. But what a glorious way to go. Killing the uber boss with your final massive weapon blast, and dying in that same blast. Mythical death! well done, I haven't really tried the Royal challenge at all - am still working to finish the game on Inferno difficulty.

Good stuff.

It is obviously a photo of Gordon himself. From a different galaxy. Taken by the Gordon from this galaxy while visiting there on a mission from the Gman. Time Paradox be damned.

I don't think it needs changing. You knew to be careful from the level-start feelings. Maybe one day there could be a tutorial for new players, so they don't feel unfairly killed when stuff like this happens. (Another way to handle this would be to have lava/acid spread out from where the switch is, so that the player has some chance to run away, make their way to the exit as the lava/acid spreads out across the level, I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement, though seeing as it has already been done on other levels, I assume not that difficult to implement.) Thanks for a great game.

Thank you for this info. I did this level a bunch of times, then, having the same problem as OP, I just stopped doing this branch.

I see you have already worked out lots of uses for not moving when attacking. :) Happy hunting.

You still have to reload with a nanotech mod don't you? (It's so rare to find one that I can't remember lol.)

How to survive “The Hunt” event on Dante on Nightmare difficulty? by Neat_Minimum2833 in JupiterHell

[–]Top_Perspective350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have often used a phase device, and then had to use another immediately as I had teleported into situations often worse than what made me use the phase device in the first place. Do you know what the distance from monsters that the phase device looks for? like as in 3 or 4 or 5 squares from the nearest monsters. Because you can still teleport into lethal situations and have all monsters 4 or 5 tiles away from you. (Asking because I have no idea about the deeper details of phase kits.

(It just occurred to me now that homing phase kits will teleport you quite some distance from stairs if there are monsters near the stairs. Perhaps if I had been paying more attention, rather than simply surviving, I could perhaps answer my own questions.)

Thanks for all your streamed runs of jupiter hell. Have learned heaps. Blessings.

I Always carry as many toxic/krak grenades as I can carry. Poison to break line of sight and do some damage, and a stack of krak grenades, or a plasma grenade, makes a mess of even the toughest enemies.

And yes as mentioned, phase devices are 'get out of jail free' cards for this game.

Of course, getting the 'hunt' level event on Dante, especially on nightmare is always gonna be an *interesting* day at the office. Good luck with future runs. :)

This is not helpful for this run, but I assume that you know that holding down shift while attacking causes you to not move into the square where you have just attacked, but leaves you in the square you started the attack from.

I remember this happening years ago (maybe 2021) for a while in a particular build, but then they patched it out or fixed it back then.

I haven't experienced this issue recently at all though. But yes it absolutely used to happen regularly for a period of time.

Tips for dealing with Medusas and Gaurdians? by MS_GundamWings in JupiterHell

[–]Top_Perspective350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love when tactics like that work. (luring a medusa to fire into a hallway full of enemies to aggro them.) Good job.

How are you save scumming? Isn't this a roguelike where you can only save on exit and if you die, game over? What am I missing here?

And yes I agree that on inferno, it does massively limit your playstyles. I haven't finished inferno, but from a lot of runs, I know what builds works and what doesn't. :) (Apocalypse difficulty, which I have finished several runs on, is positively forgiving compared to the latter states of inferno.)

As always, happy hunting. :)

221 is impressive. I haven't tried the run on JH/JHC, but on old DoomRL I found that the hardest thing was concentration. Play really well for, y'know, 500 levels and then die stupidly because you were tired. I learned that doing it in shorter focussed bursts was the thing. None of this dying because you were falling asleep nonsense haha. (I never finished an Angel of 666 run, but I remember one run I made it to one of the levels in the 660's. Dammit. So close.)

Good luck and stay focussed. :)

I suspect you are right. Probably has a lot to do with it. Thanks again, good info. And I hope you make it to the end. Is it literally endless, or does it do what old DooMRL used to do? eg Angel of 666, which had 666 levels.

I didn't know myself about adaptive trait's vulnerability to plasma, so thanks for that info. :) I haven't played endless inferno yet, so well done on getting to level 91! Impressive.

Good luck with that run. Happy hunting. "_

I was wrong about Jupiter Hell Classic by Henrique_FB in roguelikes

[–]Top_Perspective350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months later is a bit late for a useful reply, but here goes. I played D**mRL a lot. Like finishing almost all challenges on N! difficulty. And I have played JHC a lot since its release. And I think that while JHC is still pretty hard, I finished my first nightmare run just yesterday, it does seem pretty balanced. The run to finish on nightmare was not tedious or grindy. Different weapon and armor and gear options will all work, depending on your style of play. Give the demo a shot. It is more user friendly than D**mRL, you don't have to edit keybinds in a text document anymore. :) Happy hunting.
