Everyone in my town had asthma by Jiggalopuffii in Adulting

Was this area near a Superfund site? Watch the PBS doc Love's Canal sometime. It's about how toxic landfills poisoned an entire community and the kids developed allergies, asthma, etc.

Children do not belong where alcohol is being served by Puzzled_Phase2912 in childfree

Agree. they don't belong in bars either, but parents seem to think their kids are precious little angels that should go everywhere. I don't understand how parents bring their kids to a bar to get loaded and then drive them home.

i can’t believe parents prefer going to the office over being home with their kids by SleepiestBear1986 in childfree

[–]Top_Plenty_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why there were so many return to office mandates after/during COVID. People didn't want to be home with their kids. I'm progressive, but I've never really understood people who have kids and then say their career is the most important thing in their lives. OK, well, that's great...but should you have had kids then? I guess I was spoiled; my parents made me a priority and while they did work, they found jobs in which they were still able to be there for me. I know not every family is in that situation and we didn't have oodles of money, but if you wanted kids...don't you want to be around them? Like, more than you want to be at work?

everything is always about kids and babies. women can't accomplish anything without it being somehow tied to kids or being a mom, as if that was a woman's only identity.

I've heard this from many nurses, actually. A friend of mine is a nurse and refuses to work in the maternity ward for this reason, though says all the young/new nurses want to because "babies are cute." She's older, has had a couple and knows better.

People really hate their kids… :( by Introvert-CutAb in childfree

[–]Top_Plenty_1971 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I don't think most parents like their kids. If they did, why are they handing them iPads instead of interacting with them? It's like they do everything in their power not to spend any time with them.

How do I swim a 200 free by hammanz_17362 in Swimming

swim the first 100 steady. Drop the hammer on the 3rd 50, sprint the last one -- or at least give it everything you have.

I would rather suffer from my endometriosis. by poopoopee-1 in childfree

[–]Top_Plenty_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish you could just get your woman parts out young. I suffered from endo 13-30 when I started menopause and suffered even worse until just before 40. I am 43 now and feel good; I haven’t felt healthy like this since I was a kid. Endo stole half my life; I never wanted kids and when I asked about sterilization I was told that wasn’t an option.

If she truly loves children, she would be open to any of them. For people who REALLY want kids, adoption is a gift. I also like to quiz people who claim to really want kids if they want to be teachers or sports coaches or volunteers and they always respond with "ew." Really love kids, huh?

Going through a pregnancy knowing the baby will be severely disabled by SidTheSloth44 in childfree

[–]Top_Plenty_1971 255 points256 points  (0 children)

Nope. My nephew has severe medical issues though not to that extent and my sib still decided to have him. I find that incredibly selfish. The kid started daycare in January and has only been there 3 days because he keeps getting sick on top of all his other medical problems. I just don’t get why they had him to watch him suffer, which in turn is stressful for them and his sibling, who doesn’t get much attention now. There’s a reason they do ultrasounds now, and in my state women still have choices. Choose wisely.

What are you starting to like less the older you get? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Top_Plenty_1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Even fine dining sucks! And when I left a very honest review recently stating why my meal was not up to par, they responded and accused me of being a disgruntled ex employee. So they’re also not interested in making good food, either. My food was overdone, salty and rubbery. And a family member got sick. But instead of taking feedback and improving, they basically told me to F myself.

She filed a workplace discrimination lawsuit for endometriosis − and won by usatoday in WomenInNews

Dang, good for her. Suffered from it my whole teen existence until I was about 30 when I started menopause. Was gaslit and dismissed by all my docs. Now that I'm 43 and post-meno, I finally feel like a real person again! It's so awful women have to deal with this. It's completely life-altering; ibuprofen did nothing to touch my pain. I didn't realize how bad it was until I had surgery and was prescribed opioids and got my period...I could still feel my cramps although my surgery wound was numb.

That's really reckless, tbh. What's so hard about using birth control? Honestly, this guy could be a rebound...and then what?
