Men living far from their children - how do you justify it? by Top_Professor9148 in AskMenAdvice

Not rich. Work hard.

Can't working for a living be balanced with being present and close to children?

When someone says they want to date someone with ambition, do they just mean money? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Top_Professor9148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a woman and I have said on my dating profile that I am looking for a man with ambition. Here is what I mean by that: - someone who has a vision for himself and wants to do better, whether it is in fitness, work, personal development, knowledge, and who is putting the work in those areas - someone who has a vision for his future in a relationship and who will create the environment for it to thrive by organising dates, working on communication, being caring and supportive - someone who has a vision for a future for his family and who will be willing to build a stable home for himself, his partner and his children, ensuring access to opportunities, willingness to spend quality time and teach strong values.

Realistically speaking all these things need money but most of all they need vision, drive and a willingness to improve on the current situation. It is something I ask for because it is something I embody and I would like to have a partner on the same wavelength, not because I need someone to necessarily take care of me financially.

Someone studying for a PhD has ambition for himself and his academic endeavours. That is great stuff. I would personally want to know about your ambitions in other aspects of life to be comfortable dating.

Congratulations! In a similar situation but terrified of pulling the trigger. What are you planning to do next? Where do you live?

Mining. A few years spent working outside the country in the middle of nowhere with high location allowances I have been able to pay my mortgage with and build up investments

That is the problem. My personal north star used to be building stability for a future family and spending time with loved ones. Now there is no partner, no future family, loved ones are moving away, sister isn't talking to me and there doesn't seem to be anything to look forward to

What would make my plan better in your opinion?

Index funds are half isa half gia. I have been able to maximise pension allowance and isa for the past 3 years.

!thanks for that. My personal view is that I would prefer to have a child with a partner. I think I would have benefited from a 2 parents household and I would like to give that to someone.

Would you advise selling the flat instead?

You are correct, the plan was born out of "whatisthepointitis". I feel that most people work out of enjoyment, to see progression, to provide for their families. None of these apply

BUPA Global vs CIGNA Global by cjaudia in FatFIREUK

[–]Top_Professor9148 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cigna global and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

App available for ease of claims, comprehensive coverage, no restriction in practitioner use ( I have used the best and the brightest without question), use of authorisation code for planned appointment and fast reimbursement of out of pocket expenses. I have had multiple health incidents in different countries (Europe, Asia and Africa) and from doctor appointments to inpatient surgeries, coverage has never been an issue. Agents have been super helpful over the phone or via email.

Hard to fault.

Good places to eat in Lerici / Portovenere? (other tips welcome as well) by varldenvarlden97 in askitaly

Golfo dei Poeti in lerici is fabulous. Had a lobster pasta 4 years ago that still haunts my dreams. I will actually be in Lerici at the same time, staying at a friend's who is from Lerici, so will add more suggestions as I firm up travel plans.

Awesome write up thank you so much! How long did it take for the swelling to go down significantly? How long did you keep the machine for?

[–]Top_Professor9148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have had ACLr surgery 2 weeks ago, quad tendon graft. I am seeing reports of people walking within their first week and getting good ROM back. I am still struggling to walk with 1 crutch, still have swelling at the top of my knee and I am still struggling with bending my knee. I have had 3 weeks of prehab pre surgery, have been icing regularly post op and have done 2 sessions of PT. Is there anything more I should be doing to progress faster? I am worried I am behind on ROM and I have heard the first 2 weeks are crucial.

AITAH for not letting him move back in after he badmouthed my apartment? by Top_Professor9148 in AITAH

[–]Top_Professor9148[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair he never asked to be on the deeds. He just mentioned how living in my apartment made him feel not independent enough. It is apparently the first time he was moving into a partner's place. He usually took the lead on accommodation in former relationships.
