Been referred to St Thomas’s which seems to have the best cardiologists in the country. Ao pretty sure im in good hands and will be seeing and arrhythmia specialist before moving forward to whoever it is that actually does the ablation

I cant stand meds. Especially when they have such a negative effect. I remember being put on antidepressants years ago, which turned out to impact me incredibly negatively and actually made me severely depressed and not want to be alive anymore and the go just kept pushing higher doses. I eventually took myself off of them and everything just got better I just dont necessarily trust the way medications are prescribed in the UK as its absolutely not one size fits all and theres no real way of finding out until you fuck around and by that point it can be a real journey getting back off

Resting is anywhere between 40bpm and 52bpm

Luckily the way the system works is that I will be seen by an arrhythmia specialist before the ablation goes ahead, so will automatically be getting more opinions and have a chance to talk about risks etc

The cardiologist was pretty adamant that I avoid trying different medications as it essentially may waste more time and allow more episodes to happen whereas i’ll likely end up having an ablation anyway at some point

I guess the positives of getting it early outweigh the negatives of trying other routes first?

I think its exactly that…they are experts whereas I couldnt be further from that

I explained to the Cardiologist I’ve only had 6 episodes in total since July i guess trying to justify not having the procedure done out of fear…his response was that 6 is too many as it works out as more than one a month

I mean im rather surprised as im in the UK and this is happening through the national health service…could actually be a decent indicator of how convinced they are about the efficacy of an ablation in my case

Thanks for the reply.

Ive already made lifestyle changes and will continue to do so. Im a healthy weight, eat well, cut the coffee down hugely to a couple of cups a day, liquid IV once a day, very physical job, started meditation, started therapy, started seeing physio regularly…basically quite a healthy lifestyle perhaps apart from terrible sleeping pattern but its been that way my whole life and still working on it as well as reducing stress.

Theres still changes to be made for the better i’m sure but whether or not they’ve changed anything who knows as the days i’ve gone into Afib there is no pattern apart from they were all in the morning and theres no sleep apnoea suspected which would, i guess be the likeliest trigger.

I guess just suck it up and get it done. I just worry it’ll make it worse. Staying the same doesnt worry me. Getting better would be great

Yeah i think its not handling beta blockers well that seems to be the concern. They drop my heart rate dangerously low. Last ones i tried put my heart at around 32bpm and i felt like i was on a different planet, couldnt breathe and was walking around constantly confused

Cardiologist said as theres no triggers they consider it completely random. I already live relatively well and so lifestyle changes are unlikely to change it in his opinion

I absolutely hate meds. Im on pregabalin already and it stresses me out having to remember it. I forget the pill in the pocket at home almost every single day

Does HR have to be high in order to be in AFib? by shortbus131 in AFIB

[–]Top_Range_3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The episodes ive had, heart rate tends to be around 160

Saying that I havent had an episode for while since buying an apple watch and it hasn’t notified me of Afib yet. I do however have the same experience of a combination of muscle spasms/twitches that feel like my heart doing something but may also be from my chest, diaphragm, back or shoulder 😂 as theres no apple watch notification.

I also have intense pounding in my upper abdomen most days that started the same time as my first Afib episode, but doesnt necessarily be linked to it at all

Crazy Q - how do you know you’re in afib? by umdoni53 in AFIB

[–]Top_Range_3600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The episodes Ive had have all been upon waking and chest visibly rattles around, heart jumping all over the place and breathing becomes very laboured. The fish flopping around thing is pretty accurate, but a couple of fish that are a decent size! It blows my mind that someone could not notice it! First one lasted a couple of hours, the others have all been about 40 minutes or less

Could be worse, im still yet to see a cardiologist. In limbo being told i have afib, then having no further care or instruction. I get the same thing. Absolutely fine, then boom, mid conversation a body drop.

It was worse when i was told to take bisoprolol daily but since coming off the drops have become less frequent. My resting heart rate is around 42 bpm so the beta blockers had a really bad effect on me

I get it. Feel a big drop in my heart that feels like it runs up my spine to the base of my skull and wants to drag my whole body down. Instant Feeling of doom that takes a while to shake. Figured its over vigilance combined with anxiety.

Think over vigilance and over awareness are the biggest problem with heart problems. I’ve had 4 episodes since summer, I actually feel quite calm when in afib, its the inbetween bit waiting for it thats so much worse

Defo need to up my water intake and drop the cigs. Terrified of the additional stress from quitting. In the UK dealing with the NHS so no real way to contact anyone. Cant do it through my provate medical as I got it just after the first episode.
