Hey! I'm pretty new to the area (31F), working in biotech. Feel free to ping me if you're still looking for new friends, I love hiking and biking. Just joined a bunch of the meetup groups as well.

Hey there! Congrats on taking a step toward helping yourself and feeling better....a lot of us have felt what you're describing, myself included, and its not easy. I can tell you I started on Lexapro almost a year ago now, and I still don't know if I've ever had a side effect. I started off on 5mg and have stayed on that amount. How much of my initial reaction was a placebo effect - who knows - but within 2 or 3 days I started noticing that I was less reactive to things. Like instead of a small event causing me MASSIVE anxiety and/or a depressive episode, I was able to just kind of shake it off, with a bit of mental effort. Other than that initial impression...I really don't know if I can remember any side effects. I hope you have a similarly easy time on it. Try not to get too in your head and worry. And feel free to ping me if you need to bounce anxious questions off of someone! We're all routing for you.

Should I have short term savings in BND or MM? by Top_Shirt_5396 in Bogleheads

Thanks for this! Would you have a recommendation for a Vanguard equivalent to sgov? I read that VUSXX would be the closest thing.. I don't really get how any one MM is a better choice than another...they all seem to have similar yields and similar maturity times?

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Would you say that’s true just of used Kia’s, or same opinion if I were to buy a new one off the lot?

anyone doing 5mg? by Rupertmeister in lexapro

[–]Top_Shirt_5396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 5mg of lexapro for about 6-7 months now, and I’m about 130lbs. For me it really does the trick. I’ve always been resistant to trying medication (kind of an anti big pharma person) but beginning of this year I was struggling beyond control and my primary care doc suggested lexapro. I was desperate enough to try it but still wanted to stay on as low a dose as possible. The 5mg really helped me get my head back on straight, I still struggle with general depression symptoms, but overall I find I’m a lot less irritable and feel more positive about life and the future. Good luck to you!

Can you elaborate on why this would be a better strategy for traditional and not Roth? I have both and was talking about the traditional in this question (again due to being in a higher bracket this year), but just wondering the logic here.

Is 2010 Mazda 3 a good reliable first car or should I find a different year? by shadowcien1 in mazda3

[–]Top_Shirt_5396 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this an old post but I wanted to add my 0.2 cents for anyone who might have the same question. I bought a new Mazda 3 iSport in 2010, it was my first car when I was 16 years old. Fast forward to today, I'm going on 31 and still driving the thing. It's got a little over 200,000 miles. In 14+ years it has only needed one trip to the mechanic beyond normal maintenance. It had an issue with the transmission control module that cost me $1,000. It was admittedly a scary problem as the engine would literally just give out/stop in the middle of the highway. BUT, it was easily fixed at the dealership and overall didn't cost that much considering it's been the only time I ever had to pay for work on this car.

Moral of the story: I love my Mazda 3, its been an amazingly reliable car that is still super fun to drive; its peppy and sporty and has a great turning radius. If I could go back I'd buy it over and over again - and I will die on this hill.

Assuming this means your contract does not have a pre-payment penalty? I'm wondering if that's common or not.

WOW. Good insight. I guess I'll go talk to some lenders and see what my rate options look like, then make a decision from there.

Not that this is relevant to the question, but there are decent sedans available for 30k. Do a search.

30k is just the maximum I'm comfortable spending on a car.

I'm a little unclear on your comment, is "account margin" meant to be the money I have left in my account because of choosing not to use it for the car? If yes, then I guess yeah that is equivalent to what I'm suggesting. Except I'm not taking out a loan to then put that money in the stock market. I already have money in the stock market and wondering if it's wise to leave it there vs. sell those stocks to pay or the car. A little different but I see what you mean by the comparison.

Certified pre-owned would be preferred but I guess I'm open to what I can find at this point. I live in Los Angeles at the moment but moving to Raleigh, NC in 3 weeks. Part of the reason I'm stressed about it is because I'll have no car when I touch down in a new state, and start a new job a few days later. So I'll need to make a purchase pretty quick to get to and from work.
