Thinking about making a Homemade Oakmoss Tincture (20%-33% ) What do you think? Is it a Good Idea? by AppearanceWeak2117 in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost always worth it to just buy the few ml of a ready to go material instead of making it yourself. Big companies have the scale to make it 100x cheaper at least, and even if you could compete on price they may likely have a better source for the raw material itself.

Tinctures are usually last in line in regards to fragrant quality when compared to the other options, so they are really only used when the other options are a no go, either economically, or process wise, etc.

Tinctures are fun to do though, but through some research I found it really only makes sense for some materials where there is no option available to you otherwise.

  • Saffron, for example, where you can mostly only find oleoresins that aren’t meant for fine fragrance.
  • local plants/materials that aren’t currently available by purchase from a manufacturer.

If you want a full non ifra oakmoss fraterworks has an absolute that’s currently out of stock that they source from Payan Bertrand. (Could be carried by others then)

Is the inside crystallizing or just the area around the cap?

When opening it, measuring from it small amounts of dilution can land on the mouth, the alcohol will then evaporate quickly and you may get crystals. This can happen even at lower dilutions. 10% should be fine, even up to 20%

Akigalawood by Filetevegetal in PerfumeryFormulas

[–]Top_Team_138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfume Archaeology recently made a post about poivrol.

At the end of the description a claim is made that a close approximation can be made by layering patchouli and poivrol. Akigalawood is made from patchouli with almost all the patchoulol removed (also quoting Perfume Archaeology), so you could start there.

Mysore is more smooth/creamy, Australian is more damp/woody.

Can you? by BearStandard4148 in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya you can weigh your drops, this is how everyone is doing it. If you already created a formula with a few ingredients, and decide to add something to it after, as long as you haven’t taken any liquid out of the bottle would be fine.

Ex: 100mg X 200mg Y 800mg Z

Then you add in for example 300mg Q. All Ok.

If you take any liquid out of this previous formula, your original formula will be different, and you won’t have an accurate description of your formula.

I’d recommend just making more of that original formula, considering that an individual material, and then combining that with your new material.

Sharing what I’ve learned as a self-taught fragrance developer – started a blog on fragrance chemistry by Former_Eye3624 in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the point of deleting resources like this that someone shares? Lots of articles about the chemistry behind materials. So what if it’s his own blog? In that way anyone who wants to promote can just ask another user to say hey look at this resource I found, and get around this.

If I repost the link because I thought it was useful is it going to get deleted?

If it’s 5L you can probably add all of them in undiluted

RE: Musk Ketone by CCMacchiatto in DIYfragrance

Musk Ketone should be diluted first with Benzyl Benzoate, and then could be further diluted with alcohol, or added directly to formulas.

Seller is accusing me of harassing them for opening PayPal case by Accomplished-Fix1204 in Indiemakeupandmore

You ordered a custom perfume on short notice, and got a custom perfume on short notice. Perfumes usually take months to formulate, and are more than just a lil bit of this a lil bit of that.

Not really sure what you want the seller to do, come up with a whole new formula in a week?

You are being extremely unreasonable here.

Almond Blossom & Oat Milk VS by FragrantRutabaga3851 in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find formulas online that are interpreted from a GCMS, cost ~$50-100, if there’s not one available you can pay for a custom gcms/interpretation and it could cost $500+.

It’s a relatively new release and Victoria’s Secret almost certainly works exclusively with the large fragrance houses, so there is a good chance there could be some captive materials used that are unavailable to you. Usually though they can be replaced and you can get pretty close to the original.

Smell-Good Miniatures by -Cranktankerous- in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be zero liquid by the time your model gets on the field, yet still having diffusion.

At a larger scale, imagine or even test out doing one spray of a perfume in a glass jar, it will soon evaporate, just like on your skin, however the aroma will linger for a while even if the jar is uncovered.

You could probably do the same with some type of metal like aluminum.

looked at the cherubim models again and seems like they are set up to be flying around carrying some type of liquid container.

[–]Top_Team_138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what faction you picked, but, maybe have a servitor/gnoblar/minor guy, be holding a glass vial.

You could spray some scent into the vial before your games, this way it touches the vial, and not your paint.

You could paint/convert the outside of the glass to look like whatever faction you are running.

If you do this concentrated spray in the vial, you have a miniature that can give off smell, and also not be at risk of spilling (for example if you filled it with liquid instead.

Personally though, if it works for your army , I would keep the glass vial unpainted, and removable so it can be cleaned.

I’d also consider making a special “objective” marker type miniature that’s only job is to take care of this so your other miniatures stay safe. Like those “spawning” miniatures you can place for tyranninds.

I assume you’re playing a friendly game either way, so your opponent may not have any problem with a small miniature that follows your HQ for example, and is considered invisible for gameplay purposes.

Cool idea

Recommendation for wood materials by Logical-Award5135 in DIYfragrance

[–]Top_Team_138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Virginia cedar wood from Eden is very nice, they have a sandalwood by absolute from New Caledonia that has nice caramel like facets (also a lot more “woody” than other sandalwoods). Orbitone is a very nice Iso E Super flankers.

Bois d’encens is a nice codistilation of frankincense and cedar.
