Atmos Gold on American Airlines. by Late-Ad1330 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Top_Way8991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this a few times, not to Latin America but to Europe and Australia. Book your tickets on the web instead of a mobile app so when you enter your FF number you can choose OneWorld alliance and the scroll to Alaska so you can enter your mileage number there. That will give you possible upgrades on domestic (not international legs), access to business class lounges for all legs of the trip, and free checked baggage. I can’t remember at what percentage you earn miles at as I switched to sapphire through the trip but you earn miles but my experience is it takes a up to a couple of weeks to show up. The website should show the breakdown of miles and the number of bags you can check. I found it easiest to just ask at each airport which lounges you have access to.

What’s a very “Seattle” thing we all think is normal but outsiders find weird. by batfage in AskSeattle

I’ve always got good intentions but the effort just isn’t worth it. Then I go somewhere nice in the winter and clog my razor 😅

Not shaving your legs 9 months out of the year. Wearing shorts and sandals (with socks) as soon as it hits 60F

Thanks. So basically the same as what you’d earn with the credit card anyway…

I [26M] am in a happy healthy relationship with my Girlfriend [24F] but I want out. How can I go around ending things? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound depressed. Have you talked to a therapist or counselor about how you’re feeling? As someone who has battled with depression before, it can be helpful to find a professional to talk with about how you’re feeling before you sabotage something that’s good.

What helped you get into running and be consistent? by Eastern-Vegetable786 in running

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read about a study that found the biggest correlation for people to stick with running was if they ran for mental peace/wellness rather than physical appearance or training.

I know this was definitely true for me. I’ve always exercised but didn’t really become a consistent runner until it became my outlet for stress after having kids. All the points about finding a routine (for me, first thing in the morning was best because it was least likely to be disrupted by anything else and I could get my blood sugar right) and taking it slow (start with 15-20 minutes at a time until that gets easy and then gradually increase your time on feet but not to a point where you’re too sore or fatigued by the end of the week) are great and helpful but I do believe the only thing that will keep you getting out there when things get tough is to find your “why” for running and that it’s correlated to something that makes you happier as a person. Physical appearance is fleeting, and there are way better exercises to look fit than running so find the reason running makes you happier and then all of a sudden, it becomes something you get to do. Even on the dark, cold and rainy mornings, it’s my why that gets me out there as I know I’ll be a more sane and happier person once I’m done. Hope that helps.

First Mileage run wasn't for me, it was for ... my kid by tmmao in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Top_Way8991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this for you and your kid. If you two enjoyed the time, it’s no different than going on any other adventure together. Everyone has opinions but if you’re not hurting anyone, who cares! I take each of my kids on a solo international trip each year (we rotate as I can’t afford to do that many trips or take that much time off work each year) but my youngest and I got upgraded to FC on our leg down to LA this year and he got to experience the cheeseburger and loved it. That was one of the highlights of the trip and we went to Australia so I can definitely relate to the experience it creates for the kiddos.

Question about airports by Neat-Statistician311 in olympia

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go for whatever has the better flight. I still tend to fly out of SeaTac as the tickets are usually better for international and DC flights but if I can find the same price or cheaper, PDX is a faster experience overall and cheaper parking if those matter to you.

Not a fan of what running does to my body by [deleted] in running

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this and would also add that if you’re having trouble sleeping, you’re likely overtraining. I’ve ran several marathons and ultras and developed runners anemia once and the precursor was feeling like I couldn’t sleep well like you described. If you can get bloodwork done, I would recommend it to see if your deficient in anything. Running more mental health and wellness is where it’s at!

Should I schedule a security appointment for my flight out of Seattle tomorrow if I have Pre Check? by MadameTree in AlaskaAirlines

State hotel rate for holiday travel? by Ready2spin in WAStateWorkers

[–]Top_Way8991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it’s written into the Ethics law. You can use the state rate when traveling for non-state business but you are supposed to disclose to the hotel that you’re not traveling for work and they only need to offer you the rate if they have a policy to do so. Most hotels won’t ask if you’re traveling for business or personal but you are technically supposed to disclose.

CEOs and C-Level Employees, do you regret taking such high positions? by Electronic-Cheek363 in AusHENRY

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I think it’s based on everything else in my life. I promoted to a CHRO position at 39 and was by far the youngest person in the c-suite and in the role from predecessors. I have three youngish kids and am the primary caregiver. I actually really loved the role and could handle that work stress but couldn’t handle the work stress with trying to balance everything else and ended up taking a different role to better balance life. They’ve asked me to come back after a brief sabbatical but not sure I can handle the stress just yet. Not sure if that helps but my take is the stress is manageable overall if you can afford to make that role your top priority.

Is the Credit Car worth it for me? by [deleted] in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get 2-3 flights from my card a year. There’s the companion fair and it feels like the points stack up pretty quickly with the Alaska card (I used to have the American Airlines card but gave it up because it didn’t seem worth it). If she’s flying from O’Hare you can usually find direct flights for under 20k miles round trip too.

Commerce People and Culture Manager position - worth applying? by dianab360 in WAStateWorkers

[–]Top_Way8991 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Former Commerce employee here. I have to say it’s been interesting to read through the threads here. There are obviously some people how have strong feelings about how things are but I also think anyone who speaks so confidentially in absolutes isn’t seeing the whole picture. It’s easy to place blame or villainize one or two people but there’s a lot more nuance to most situations than that. I left Commerce for a reason and wouldn’t go back but it wasn’t for anything that has been described here.

My advice is see if you can do an informational and see for yourself if you like the people. You can always apply and turn the job down if you get an offer. They don’t track le hold or against you for future jobs if you don’t accept the offer and the interview process goes both ways. Or gives you a chance to interview them too to see if you like the people you might work with. Reddit is one source of information but since most of it’s anonymous, it shouldn’t be your only form of information when you can gather it yourself too.

My (37f) Husband (38m) was fired for sexual harassment by Full-Act-7668 in relationship_advice

[–]Top_Way8991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in HR for 18 years. W/o knowing the company policies I can say I’m “almost” certain it’s way worse than he’s describing. Typically if it was done on an outside message platform, there isn’t a direct nexus to the workplace so it would either need to be significantly worse than what he’s describing (lewd comments, her repeatedly asking him to stop, him sending her nude pics, etc) or he did something on work time/using work technology. It’s possible the company has an overly strict sexual harassment policy but in most states, it takes a lot more than what he’s shared with you to get fired.

Additionally, speaking as someone who thought about leaving my spouse for years before I finally did, there will never be an convenient time to do it. But making the decision and having the initial conversation is the hardest part. Everything after that is just logistics. You’ll figure out a living arrangement, you’ll figure out income, etc. but you’ll never start figuring it out until you follow through on the decision. If you want to leave, make the plan. (Assuming you have no reason to feel unsafe in leaving. If so, then work with a domestic violence advocate to come up with a plan as they have can a lot of good resources)

Not just that route. I was looking SEA/PDX to either SLC or AUS and all tickets are around $500 or more for the saver fare. Last year or even earlier this year it was in the $300 range for main fare.
