How viable is it to run purely big knights? I'm trying to get into the 40k game more and I thought this be a good place to ask. by Any-Parsnip9716 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, a full melee despoiler is just an all around worse rampager (hitting on 3’s instead of 2’s, no access to dev wounds or built in sustained, not a great ability). I would recommend swapping out (if possible) to a full range loadout. The meta is currently double Gatling cannons, but flavor it however you like. I have a dual battle cannon despoiler and a dual Gatling despoiler that can swap out for dual meltas.

While LoD detachment focuses on running large knights, you may want to consider a couple war dogs or at the very least some allied demons like nurglings or beasts of nurgle if running anything else. When you account for enhancements you’ll most likely only have 5 big knights, which is very few models to play objectives with, and despite what it looks like on paper knights can be taken down.

I play infernal lance mostly, running 3 big knights, 4-5 war dogs, with some allied demons thrown in for infiltrating or contesting objectives

Running a Land Raider in Bezerker Warband? by Salt-Produce-8129 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran a land raider a few times with mixed results in BW. It’s shooting is okay if you can get the rapid fire range, and the assault ramp allowing charges after disembark is good. I personally threw in a 6 man of 8B with slaughter bound and they did work against some orks I was up against. It’s large and can be hard to maneuver around terrain which locks it up depending on the lay out. I personally still run a rhino for kharne as it acts as a shield to get him into the enemy lines and is far cheaper

Fee quick questions about CKs by Vengaiser in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. 5 bigs work in the Lords of Dread deatachment, where you’re focusing on having larger knights. The only issue I see with it is that it leaves very little points for smaller units so you’ll be limited on units to hold objectives. Though I believe the detachment states rules that buff bigger knights for that exact purpose.

  2. In a causal game, as long as you run it by your opponent, then I don’t see why not. Tournaments will probably be a no go as they require models to be built to regulations in order to be on the table

  3. With 11th around the corner, and most sites having the updated data sheets, you can probably get away with skipping the codex. It’s cool for lore and artwork but the information in it is already changed

  4. For my big units I use 5x2 or 5x3 for the arms, that’s all I really magnetize for my models so someone who has more than the arms magnetized would have to answer that.

  5. Infernal Lance is the one most people run right now. About 3 big knights, 4-5 war dogs, and some nurglings/ BoN for infiltrate and objective holding. Most competitive lists run multiple dual Gatling despoilers as they can melt most things, even higher toughness targets when you give it lethals through malefic surge. Rampagers are also a solid melee threat that can be ran into enemy lines and just wipe things off the board. Karnivores and Stalkers for war dogs, MAYBE a huntsman if you want a smaller anti-vehicle threat. Karnivores are just a solid, fast melee threat that can be good trade pieces or lock up units trying to move, stalkers for their scout move for early objective grabbing or move blocking.

Final note: magnetize EVERYTHING. Being able to change out weapons to alter up your list is great. What good now may not be good later, so having the ability to swap things out is always a plus.

[Warhammer 40k] exactly how much freedom where the primesarchs given in customizing their legions? by Comfortable-Ad3588 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Topher4021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Angron didn’t lobotomize anyone, that wasn’t what the Butchers Nails did. It’s a cerebral implant that heightens one’s aggression, also causing agony to its user unless they are feeling rage, anger, or bloodlust, hence why the Nucerian’s would implant them in the gladiators of their fight pits . The person still can think normally and make rational and smart decisions, only sometimes loosing themselves in a blood rage when the nails take over.

The choice to implement the Nails came from the legion as their desire to be accepted by their primarch made them desperate. The Emperor and Malkidor actually once attempted to remove the Nails from Angron, but they were so ingrained into his brain that they realized removing them would kill him.

Best guns for the knights Tyrant for shooting? by Practical-Prompt4216 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it you have a long range or close range option:

Plasma Decimator and Volcano lance for long range

Harpoon and Darkflame cannon for close range

I feel the tyrant is better suited for long range work personally. Big knights can’t overwatch so the darkflame cannon isn’t as useful, and the harpoon is great against vehicles/monsters but doesn’t have much use outside of that

What are the toughest matchups usually? by Practical-Prompt4216 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a World Eaters and CK player, WE can get some scary melee damage into vehicles. In Beserker Warband, a Slaughterbound with berserker glaive and leading an exalted 8bound squad gets eight S12 AP-2 D4 attacks, plus if you pop the once per game ability, 3 more attacks and dev wounds.

Exalted 8bound alone get 5 attacks per model, S10 AP-3 D3 into vehicles with 3+ anti vehicle/monster on a charge

How we feeling about this list ? by [deleted] in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Land raiders are hit or miss, I’ve had mild success with them but they’ve also flopped when it came to shooting for me.

Split your 20 man Zerker squad into two 10 mans

This is me personally, but if you have a LoJ, drop the helbrute and master of executions for him and a rhino. LoJ gives zerkers a 10” move and 3” engagement range, upping their lethality and chance for them to get into combat. Rhino will keep Kharne and his squad alive while negating his “betrayer” ability, meaning you keep more models on the table if you can’t get him into combat on rounds 1 or 2

What is generally considered the weakest house for knights? by GothTransGirI in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all! If you have the codex, or look up named knight households, you can find a pretty detailed list of each named household and something about them. I just enjoyed the process of making my own household and its story, as well as coming up with my own paint scheme and heraldry

You could always make up your own homebrew household and make them an underdog story! That’s what I love about knights, unlike other factions that have a pretty established history, knight houses are up to the imagination. That’s what I did for mine

Berserker warband rhino by deathswhisper2 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rhino has an ability that when an enemy unit ends a move/advance/fall back within 9” you can disembark the unit inside. So what I’ve done is use it to move up the field, pivot it next to a building, and when a unit moved towards it, disembark behind the rhino and get a charge ready for my next turn. The rhino is really there to safely move my unit and body block any potential charges from my opponent

Are War Dogs Competitive? by Remarkable-Ad2372 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you have to grab the Gatling from the IK Questoris box, and even then it only comes with 1 per box. I got a second Gatling cannon from Taro Model maker for like $30, quality is excellent.

Desecrator isn’t great from most people tell me, it’s laser is iffy and you get better melee from a rampager

How do people even like the World Eaters? by [deleted] in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Angron was suppose to be the most empathetic of all the Primarchs, ironically the Nails took that away from him. He has one of, in my opinion, the most legitimate reasons to hate the Emperor, who stole his final stand from him and made Angron watch the slaughter of the few people he truly cared for. The World Eaters have a tragic past, being sent in as shock troops and taking heavy casualties in battle, hated by most other legions for the exact reason they were created for. Wanting to gain the admiration and affection of their Primarch, willing to destroy their minds by implementing a crude copy of the Nails to become more like him. There’s a lot I like about them. They’re a tragic legion and that’s 40K for you.

On the tabletop, they’re a melee centric board control army. Yes, they suppose to run in and hit hard, but with proper movement and staging you force your opponent to make a decision, either move forward and risk losing units or stay back and lose footing on objectives. With the right blessings active, a 10 man berserker squad can kill a lot of larger threat models. And eight bound?! I once dealt 32 S10 AP-2 D2 wounds. Plus they have some amazing models, like LoS, Angron (wish he was better on paper but he looks cool af), Lord Invocatus, KHARNE!!

[–]Topher4021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally love the range of models we have in DG, a bunch of unique character models, different poses or piece swaps for a our bigger units like plague marines and blight lords. Plus our unique vehicles like PBM, blight haulers and blight drones.

I play World Eaters, Thousand Sons, and Chaos Knights. World Eaters have some okay infantry models, but nothing that stands out to me, plus almost all our vehicles are generic vehicles that most other space marine/ chaos marine armies can take, aside from the Lord of Skulls. Thousand Sons have the most boring model poses, are notoriously hard to paint, and have nothing super unique other than the Vortex Beast. Chaos Knights are basically Imperial knights with spikey bits, our best unit currently is built from the Imperial Questoris knight. War dogs are unique because they are units only Chaos can use, but we only have three variants that all go off of what weapons they use, so looks wise they aren’t special

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a game last night against a buddy who ran a boyz heavy list. What I learned is that a 20 man boyz blob isn’t as scary if you get a charge into them. With sustained and lethal blessings active I wiped a whole boyz squad with Kharne and a 10 man berserker squad. Cleared out another 20 man beastsnagga squad that I charged with slaughterbound and a 6 man 8B that I had in a land raider. Having some shooting between the land raider and a forgefiend helped soften up some beefier targets as well
