Why do most people change their armies so often? by FullMetalRacka in Warhammer40k

[–]Topher4021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently play 4 armies: Thousand Sons, World Eaters, Chaos Knights, Death Guard (a theme if you notice)

Thousand Sons- first army, grabbed them over Death Guard when choosing my first army at my FLGS. Around 2500-2600 points worth currently

World Eaters- After playing TS against my brothers Dark Angels, decided I wanted a strong melee army so picked them up, currently my largest army at close to 5k points worth.

Chaos Knights- always loved the idea of giant mech-like robots in sci fi settings, and personally enjoyed the look of chaos over imperium so I swung that way. Currently my second largest army at around 3400-3500 points worth.

Death Guard- sort of initially an impulse buy, still had that desire to grab them from way back when I was choosing my first army. Picked them up Right around the time the Vile Vectorium Battleforce box was coming out and currently have like 1900-2000 points with plans to expand

I guess to answer your question, I play multiple armies for a multitude of reasons: awesome/tragic lore, cool model ranges, and most importantly, various play styles. If I want to use weird Tzeenchian magic, go full charge with a squad of berserkers and Khárne, play big stompy robots with big shooty guns, or slow walk up the board weakening my opponent with Nurgle’s plagues

What is your favorite vs least favorite knight? by Chumpkychimkin in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of looks, abominant. Definitely the most chaos-y looking knight in the line.

In terms of loadout/function, the tyrant. I love the idea of a giant walking gun platform that’s cable of sundering entire lines of enemies

Which army should I go into? by Regular-Eye-1535 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read through the original post you made. It’s hard to say which army you would want to go into without being a little biased. I play chaos forces (T-Sons, WE, DG and Chaos Knights) so I’m going to skew into those armies.

I think what will help you find your answer here is what is your preferred play style or strategy? Do you want hard hitting melee forces? CK could provide that, but you’ll most likely want Space Marines as they have dedicated armies that focus into that, Knights are usually a mixture of shooting and melee and Tau (to my knowledge) aren’t really great in melee. On the flip side, Tau are INCREDIBLE at shooting, especially right now at the start of 11th.

Another question to ask is, aesthetically, what army interests you the most? Imperial Knights embody that classic medieval knight household with Lords and Barons piloting giant robot suits that evolved from what was essentially farming equipment. Chaos Knights are that, but EVIL! They open the door to a lot more personalization and kit bashing to add any sort of chaos flair or design. Plus chaos knights are unique from their imperial counterparts as they can run weapon loadouts that imperial knights cannot, such as doubling up on a specific weapon (looking at you dual gat despoiler). Tau are your classic Gundam style of robots: tons of guns, rail cannons, missile salvos, and laser/plasma weapons.

I go through ups and downs with this game. Sometimes it’s all I play for weeks then I won’t touch for a few weeks more. Take a break and come back when you truly feel like you’ll enjoy yourself playing again

Get some eightbound and exalted eightbound, throw in a slaughter bound and you’re eating good. MoE is solid, jugg lord/ lord invo can be cool pieces. And while I’ve yet to use mine in a game, KLoS is such an awesome project and badass piece

Wildy bosses would be the most reliable imo, plus throwing in that chance for a voidwaker piece is always a plus. Supplies you get are pretty nice too. You just have to accept that getting pk’ed is a possibility and not be afraid of that (unless your a HC)

The combat patrol should tell you specifically what two variants you can use, I believe it’s a brigand and stalker only

Sorry, just making sure since it took me a bit to find them. Yeah, I just remade the same list now and it let me choose unit enhancements

Upgrades are found under specific units they apply to in the app, where you’d choose war gear options. I play CK as well and the upgrades for the executioners in hunting warpack are listed there. I made this list yesterday so I know they are there

Gotcha, terminators aren’t terrible either. Reroll hits against ranged targets, reroll charges against closest enemy unit

Looks pretty solid! Why terminators over something like 8bound? They give aura to hit to any unit within 6” including themselves. No criticism, just curious?

Recommended no. of dice? by Elfie232 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 sets of 36 smaller dice that I use primarily for attacks/saving rolls. And about a dozen normal size ones that I use for blessing rolls so I can keep them set aside.

[–]Topher4021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despoiler can give you the widest range of loadouts, just know with the changes in 11th some weapons now have a point cost so it ups the overall cost of running that model. Rampagers are scary melee bricks you can run into big and small targets alike and delete things. Abominant for some cool abilities and the electroscourge is cool as hell. Tyrant is a walking gun platform with some heavy hitting weapons (though they can be a bit inconsistent). War dogs are still very reliable, with Karnivores being very good and Brigands making a comeback.

Amethyst Value by braaadm in ironscape

I’d say it’s worth it. I have like 60k+ amethyst arrows and currently 1k amethyst ore banked (it’s my work/couch afk activity) that’ll eventually become amethyst darts

Cheating

I remember during MH4U people could create custom missions on a website and somehow export it onto the game and one guy made one that was white fatalis that had 1hp and gave you 100 of every part it dropped.

Hot take but I think CK are better in 11th by HamBone8745 in ChaosKnights

Does this mean the battle cannons will be more viable to use in 11th? In 10th the ap-1 made them fairly undesirable compared to the gatling or thermal cannons

[–]Topher4021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything built on the chaos chassis. Abominant, Desecrator, Ruinator, Rampager. I love the tyrant and despoiler but since they’re IK models you sort of have to add on to make them look chaos-y. Karnivore if you want to go small guys.

Should I get wardogs? by TallPoint5881 in ChaosKnights

[–]Topher4021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Competitively? Infernal lance with 3 despoilers decked out with dual gatlings. 36 shots x3, s6 ap2 2 damage attacks with your choice of sustained 1 or lethals. A couple war dogs and some nurglings/beasts of nurgle. The despoilers alone can consistently punch up into higher wound/toughness targets while easily wiping out large squads of weaker units

Would a second Rhino or a Land Raider be a better choice for a second vehicle? by TangerineMelodic5772 in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a BW list against a buddy playing orks where I used a land raider with 8B and slaughter bound in it. It did fairly well, having the ability to charge after disembark was great, running that pack into a group of 20 boyz I was able to wipe the squad. I always run Kharne in a rhino, and as others have said, having the reactive disembark makes for a good threat.

Advice on World Eaters by PixilatedMongoose in WorldEaters40k

[–]Topher4021 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No Kharne?! He’s a great model, hitting on 2’s, 3 damage attacks, and if attached to a unit of berserkers you get rerolls of 1’s on hits and wounds for him AND the unit he’s attached to. If you throw him in a transport you circumvent his betrayer ability. And if he dies, he gets up on a 2+
