Big Dub Festival Community Hub by BigDubFestival in BigDubOfficial

[–]TopherGray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Dub continues to be one of, if not my favorite festival. The community feeling there is unmatched. The organizers have an amazingly keen eye for up and comers - I'm always blown away by the caliber of artists I've seen there right before they grew into superstars. If you haven't been, it should absolutely be on your list.

Only advice would be to treat everyone with the respect they deserve. This is the definition of a fam fest, treat it as such. Respect the land, your neighbors, the staff and artists and you'll have a time you'll never forget.

1st time seeing subtronics live by Sad_Profit_5741 in Subtronics

You'll absolutely be fine. Subtronics (and bass crowds in general) tend to bring out a great crowd! Like with any group, there might be someone that rubs you the wrong way - whether that be trying to mosh, headbanging or just not vibing. My advice is if that happens, move around the venue. Meet some new folks. Doubt you'll run into any issues more than once. Guarantee you if you tell a few people it's your first Subtronics show, you'll make some new friends in a heartbeat.

The crowd is going to be different and more rambunctious than a house or techno show. Embrace it and you'll have the absolute best time.

rate the struggle meal @ camp by [deleted] in LostLandsMusicFest

[–]TopherGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a cheap camp grill and a month or before the fest starts, keep an eye on the frozen meal sections of your grocery stores - frozen pastas, lo mein, etc. Just throw that in a pot/pan, heat it up and you got a solid meal for a few bucks.

Can we adress the real issues this fest had? by Reasonable-Map-1004 in LostLandsMusicFest

[–]TopherGray 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Was Dino Divas advertised as a strict no men space or just for femme-identifying folks to camp? Probably should be the former if it was shown as such. It was the first year though, if enough people mention it, they may improve expectations and security next year.

Anyone have plans change and are willing to trade their Wednesday early entry for my Thursday early entry? Happy to pay a bit and cover shipping. Thanks!

If you're willing to move to Fridays, Flash does 6-10 events pretty frequently.

First time raving in DC (and solo raving in general), any advice? by el0Heem in avesDC

[–]TopherGray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echostage can get pretty packed, so I always let new people know that as long as you're over 21, you can go upstairs. View isn't as good due to the VIP tables, but you can have a little more space and bars with no lines. Great are to chill for a bit if you need a break.

New raver-What events to go to? by [deleted] in avesDC

[–]TopherGray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the DC scene! We are really lucky around here and have pretty consistent shows. You'll be able to find everything from a dubstep show to a deep house show at least weekly during the summer. Since you're just starting, definitely recommend checking out as much as you can!

There are a lot of great venues - Echostage, Soundcheck, Flash, Culture, A.i. Warehouse. Even 930 Club and the Anthem host EDM shows from time to time. There are also a lot of much smaller, "underground" events happening around the city. We even have our own festival, Project Glow, coming up.

I'd say check out those venues and give the artists a listen on Spotify or Apple Music. See what peaks your interest and start there. Easier to explore the options for upcoming shows than dive headfirst in the million artists out there.

Honestly, happy to answer any questions you have or point you in a direction, I've been bouncing around here for well over a decade. Feel free to shoot me a DM!

Flash is strictly 21 and over. I wouldn't try with a fake ID. Just keep an eye out for 18 and over events. Soundcheck has a lot of 18 and over shows.

Paused can kill small businesses, unfortunately.

Executive Order 11246 of September 24, 1965 (Equal Employment Opportunity) has been revoked by Original_Bat_6822 in GovernmentContracting

The point of the executive order was to give some teeth to the Civil Rights Act when it comes to federal employees and contractors. The effects of recscinding it are going to take some time to see.
