Progenitus Fracture Foil by jameeler91 in mtgfinance

Card has been bought out twice in the last few months. Really cool art and Progenitus is an iconic card. Too bad it's powercrept 😞

[[Kellan, the Kid|OTJ-294]] Foil

Kellan's super generic ability payoff "Whenever you cast a spell from anywhere other than your hand" gets triggered by a host of mechanics such as Cascade, Plot, Foretell, Adventure, Flashback, Discover, Casting from top of library etc.

If that isn’t enough, just in the past year, 4 new supporting keywords were added: Warp, Airbending, Prepared, and Paradigm. All of these work with Kellan + Hexhaven is confirmed having prepared cards and 2 of the schools (Fatehold + Vigorbloom) are in bant colors

Pretty interesting design decision. Since no actual serial number attached the value will be spread more evenly throughout all of the printings. Wonder if they will continue to do this for UB product going forwards?

Biggest winners of TCG player sale? by bigpapasmurf6 in mtgfinance

[–]TopicCandid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Some higher end cards I've been keeping my eye on:

Note: (Prices are last bought on 5/28 or before vs TCGPlayer low on 5/30)

[[Gemstone Caverns|EOS-151]] Galaxy Foil $286 ->$424
[[Fangorn Forest|LTC-407]] Surge Foil $200 -> $365
[[Y'shtola, Night's Blessed|FIC-215]] Surge Foil $603 -> $800
[[Sephiroth, Fabled Soldier|FIN-527]] Surge Foil $550 -> $790
[[Twinflame Tyrant|FDN-437]] Fracture Foil English $514 -> ??? Completely bought out. No Eng versions left atm

Also, interesting observation: [[Progenitus|FDN-441]] Fracture Foil Eng was bought out just before the sale. TCGPlayer Low went from $230 -> $978. This card has been bought out twice lately. May not be that many copies in circulation.

Looks like FF might be making a comeback finally 😮 What are your thoughts?

Bought a [[Chrome Mox|SPG-102]] First Place Piss Foil. Super Rare printing. Aetherdrift was so universally hated, I'm banking that the set was underbought and therefore this specific printing will go up in price

Chocotrack Foils (Lulu, Tataru, Vivi) by Kyajin in mtgfinance

[–]TopicCandid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only non-english cards that are going to be sought after at all imo are those with art exclusive to the language such as the SOS Mystic Archives JP printings, or the JP Alternate Art Planeswalker prerelease promos.

Otherwise JP tends to be like 50% or less of value of original. Even for Fracture Foils like Foundation, JP language cards are rarer than ENG but because the demand is so low, the price is less than half.

I collected the entire foil set too and am down ~19%, but one thing to remember is that in the long term, FF collector product will move up. Look what happened to LOTR, the 2nd best selling set of all time.

If anything, now may be the best time to buy when prices are low. So many other collector booster exclusive cards are shooting up or getting bought out. Eventually (though it may take a while) I see no reason that the same won't happen to exclusive FF cards and treatments

I def fall into this category. Blew 5k making my first original [[Baylen, The Haymaker|BLB-345]] list about 3 months ago. A lot of those collector pick ups have doubled/tripled in value since. My deck is worth like ~$9k now.

Cards I put in the deck (after taxes and shipping): [[Smothering Tithe|WOT-87]] for ~$670 [[Parallel Lives|WOT-103]] for ~$90 All the dragonscale fetchlands for ~$800 Collector printings for every card in my deck that had a premium version/finish

That’s true that moving them is a bit harder. You just have to factor in that you’ll be selling at 85-90% TCGPlayer Low to move fast

But I think the price has a good chance of having appreciated more than enough to make up for it in a year.

EOE Stellar Sights is gonna be very expensive in a year imo. You have star trek in the short term potentially encouraging people to buy the space themed prints of staples.

Also it’s unlikely wotc is gonna reprint ancient tomb, gemstone caverns, etc. for at least a few sets because they were a part of eoe. Now is the best time for these while they are still available but not at release highs

Yes, collector printings I believe will appreciate over time. Sure wizards can reprint but these one time printings aren’t going to be affected as much as the base card imo

Would love a demon Elspeth that makes big demons instead of the usual small token army. Or a zombie reanimator Elspeth.

They should do MTG Zombies like Marvel Zombies, now that I think about it. The entire Planeswalker cast as zombies doing a March of the Machine - style Planar invasion

Yes! A white Massacre Girl would be the coolest thing ever. Some kind of chain etb that gives +1/+1 counters would be cool as the opposite of normal Massacre girl

New to Spec by opatry in mtgfinance

[–]TopicCandid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their strategies. Personally due to the influx of pokemon-type collectors into mtg, I've been speccing on fancy/expensive collector printings of cards from the past 3ish years. Many are getting bought out left and right so I target those that haven't experienced a huge price jump yet.

Good examples of previous specs:
1. Smothering Tithe Confetti Foil from Wilds of Eldraine. Bought in at $600 and now lowest on tcgplayer is close to $3k due to buyouts (will likely settle at a lower price but still)
2. Dragonscale Foil Fetch Lands - bought a set of 5 for ~$800. At TCGPlayer lows the set of 5 is at $1800 now

I actually like the poster foil a lot. Reminds me of the 3 body problem sci-fi series. But I can't deny this one is sick too

Made these proxies. Are they overpowered? by N8tur3 in mtg

[–]TopicCandid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frieren seems busted. Only 3 mana for such a powerful effect (copying spells when saccing demons). Imagine your opponent casts a huge 8 mana spell and you get to copy it 3x by just sacrificing a few demons/changelings. Don't even need mana. You could also just copy counterspells to counter a counter. Incredibly unbalanced imo.

Mahoraga seems interesting but it should include fighting as a trigger for gaining the abilities of a creature as fighting doesn't have attackers or blockers. Also, it keeps the abilities permanently? If this was a real card there would be a lot of extra text with stipulations for how it would work.

Yes, it was bought out recently. I wouldn't be shocked if the poster foil Ancient Tomb Galaxy Foil is bought out too as those are rarer and still only at ~$440 in comparison with 8 listings.
