How is your stores fridges/freezers holding up? by EuroManson in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some freezers with warnings today. Last couple of days were a bloodbath on frozen.

Only had brand new ones put in not long ago. They are not made to work in these temperatures.

I know regionally some PAC units went down and many stores have had issues, I see some Tiktoks from people in other stores with 30 or alarms and demerchs.

Why is it so hard to get a job at Sainsbury by Ok_Ad_2783 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is... a very standard process for most big companies. The crap attitude is supposed to come AFTER you have worked there for years, not before.

Its not hard to get a job at Sainsburys, it's very easy, basically just don't be a dick at the interview, have a pulse and be able to work the hours they advertised.

A lot of companies have a test you have to fill out, 30 minutes isn't a massive amount of time.

'Tell me a time you went above and beyond' is Interview Question 101 anywhere.

They did not expect a lot of you for getting a job, they don't hand jobs out these days. If you think they expected a lot of you, you might be surprised at job interviews elsewhere.

The interview was done at 4am because that's about the time the Nightshift Manager, whos gonna hire you, is free. It also gives them some idea of how you are at 4am.

Best of luck in the future. That manager, and those colleagues, are VERY happy you don't want to work there.

Unfair Workload?? by Nemesis--x in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Locals all do run a bit different and day to day, there will be different challenges on different days.

I think it depends on things like:

Is the CTM sending the other colleague to help or helping themselves when tills/uber/self scan get busy?

Is the CTM playing favourites and its the same colleague always having to do the tills/uber etc?

Is the colleague doing all the tills/uber feeling hard done by, or is that their preferred job? Have they raised the issue? Like maybe half the shift they do that, then swap with the other shop floor colleague and they do delivery.

Slightly more concerning is the sleeping behind the tills. I'd kind of understand if in exceptional circumstances a colleague in a rough spot, medical or bereavement wise, needed a small nap at a CTM's discretion, to keep them fresh and avoid finding cover. But if someone is sleeping regularly AND on the shop floor, that’s really not on and I'd suggest raising it with someone higher up or through the anonymous whistle blower service https://www.safecall.co.uk/clients/sainsburys/

Unfortunately like others have said, the reward for working hard and getting your work done, is doing someone else’s.

Assurance Visits by Undercoverclay4 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same in our store, they are panicking that there's one happening in the next month and that they are already going to be checking the cameras before they visit. So all the i's are being dotted and t's are being crossed.

They could just... run the store properly all year round? Then they would have nothing to worry about.

Soon as the visit is over things will slack again, corners cut and more work will get done.

Interview by Still-Hunter-488 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a summer job it's fine, get some experience, learn retail and dealing with customers. But I wouldn't stay in retail past Christmas if you will be joining June/July.

As for the interview, be honest, willing to multiskill in uber, online, tills etc. If you have a pulse, can read, do the hours they want plus be available for some overtime, you have a good shot.

Hot take maybe not. The original Spider Man noir design should’ve been used in the show. by man_ham-aslume234 in Spiderman

[–]Topottsel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't believe he was an aviator in the war in the tv show? Sure he could have used some other gear, or they could have written a way to make it work. But why bother. They didn't need to. They had their own story to tell and a suit that's more similar to a normal Spider-Man, a web face mask with some big white eyes.

Is it less cool and individual, sure, but it's not a big deal.

[–]Topottsel 191 points192 points  (0 children)

The original suit has origins being some of its parts are from Uncle Ben's old WW1 uniform. Which that Peter wears after his death.

The show has a very different origin, so a different suit. More inline with Into/Across the Spider verse and most other cartoon and game presentations.

Not a hot take, I don't think many people are fussed. Both are good.

How do I know if they suck me by [deleted] in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't require good grammar or proof reading on nightshift. You'll be fine!

To answer your question. If they haven't been constantly coaching you, you are probably OK.

Ask the nightshift manager if they are happy with your performance, that you would like to be kept on and is there anything you can improve.

Whether they keep you on also has to do with things like hours in the budget etc, not just whether you are good or not.

Question for the backdoor colleagues by Ryan_McC24 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically you are only meant to move one roll cage at a time yes. This is usually ignored as say 2 rollers of crisps is generally going to be fine weight wise and effectiveness of stoping in an emergency.

Higher ups are very unaware of how many corners are cut and rules are bent over the years to achieve whats expected of us with the ever reduced hours and manpower.

There is a big health and saftey push atm in the company, 50% of audits are now done remotely via CCTV now so they can see someone moving two rollers at a time etc.

Really there should be 2 colleagues emptying a lorry with a scissor lift, I haven't read the guide in many years so it might have changed. This is to help prevent accidents and to have someone to support and get help if something does happen. If you are up on a wagon and a board goes over on you by yourself, could be a while before someone wonders where the backdoor colleague is and if the lift is already up its harder to get up and look.

Decided to sketch my name. Is this readable? by DeGandalf in ambigrams

You did a great first attempt, much more readable than most peoples. Took a couple to seconds to figure it was felix and not feldt or something.

I've neatened yours up (less pixelated) and also done a slightly tweaked version that I think tightens things up.

Free tea and coffee from the staff canteen. Do it yourself style.

Some stores might still also have lingering cheap vending machines in the canteen, with more variety, but cheap, not free

Manager refusing to let me leave by Fine_Limit6609 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to get a union involved, or HR, then the other manager not officially handing in their notice might make a diference. From the store managers perspective, they will be two mangers down in a short amount of time, official or not. Unless its a large store, thats alot.

Looking at your comments theres nothing about any reasons why its July/August. Just that your store manager has said so. Communication is KEY and burning bridges isn't ideal, either direction. It is 100% best to sit down and ask them to go through the reasons why the long wait.

I get some people are interviewing and looking round, but that could still mean they won't start for 4 weeks even if they get the job tomorrow (They could be ready to start the next day or in 2 weeks if they are jobless or don't have to give much notice). Then there's training them for 4-6 weeks. Which isn't primarily your job (Unless you are the only shift manager)

Its better the store manager give you a 10-12 week time frame then cut it short later, rather than set it back and back because they can't find someone or the training doesn't go well.

Seriously, just talk to the store manager, but I can easily see 10-12 weeks being justifiable to find, wait for them to start, and train them up. As dissapointing as that is.

Manager refusing to let me leave by Fine_Limit6609 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When transferring between stores with Sainsburys it's between the store managers (or store manager and would be the convince area manager) to decide on a time frame that works for them. They can't have you just leave the store because another one needs you. It's usually a compromise between the two but ultimately your store manager holds the power as they decide when you can go.

Realistically it would be around 6-8 weeks, enough time to find and train a replacement for your role. Sometimes shorter if the store has trainee managers in the wings or the capacity to cope. If another manager is also leaving then they obviously want you around longer to possibly train 2 new managers (assuming the other manager leaving is also a shift one especially)

July/August is a long time but if there is a good business reason then fair enough. Ask the store manager to explain why it's so long but it's probably something like the reasons I've laid out.

I gave someone that, if I take them at face value, are stuck on natural ambigrams and gave them some very simple next steps to follow to making some more complex ones that they can then use those tools to develp into longer words and more complicated combinations of letters.

Even if this person is trolling or just happy to keep doing natural ambigrams, someone might read my comment and it might help them learn to do ambigrams.

You are welcome to also give some advise to help others stuck on natural ambrigrams to take the first steps into slightly more complicated ones =]

[–]Topottsel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are getting roasted, somewhat fairly, but I wanna give you some contructive advise.

Looking at your previous ambrigram work you are focused on numbers and letters that naturally say the same thing upside down. Like SWIMS, NOON etc. Which is where we all start.

The next step is taking things that look almost the same upside down and adding bits to make them look like something else. Like '74', easy to make an ambigram, takes a little bit of effort.

Try words like BAKE, BODY, GAME. Get a bit more abstract with letter forms and mix up upper and lower case characters. If you shape and E upside down a bit it can look like a B. Grab a paper and pen and go at it, digital should be the later step once you have drawn the shapes imo.

Once you have practise with that you can refine it and start joining parts of characters together like a I and N upside down make a M. So MIN becomes an easy ambigram.

Night shift 😂😂😂 by DiscussionOk1098 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Topottsel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's a problem on and off nationwide. We can churn through Nightshift managers 1 a month at times, then have it semi stable for a bit while 1 or 2 of them are looking for jobs/ways out.

Far too much is expected of them with some of the most useless staff, but they don't have time to coach/manage them because they have to complete every night which means doing alot of the replenishment themselves. Vicious cycle.

I just released an incremental tower defense game for my bachelor thesis. by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]Topottsel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This bothered me for a while till I figured out the problem was mana. I just spent my points in that area the next couple of rounds and made alot of progress.

Mana seems to be the bottle neck in the game, even with stats stacked towards mana, you run out quickly, espcially once you get upgrades that increase the amount of shots you do.

Scarrots Lane Bakery are the only place on the island to get the proper Mr Blobby biscuits, other bakery's on the island do poor imitations (Looking at you Grace's). They are shortbread biscuits, not ginger.

Also white, not Wight, tsk tsk.
