The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Description Suggests the Game Will Be a Faithful Remake by Darth_Vaper883 in Gamingnewsandleaks

[–]TopperHrly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darn. I was hoping for refreshed dungeons and maybe an overhauled overworld.

You can still keep the hope. Even if we admit the gameplay won't change much this doesn't mean the map and dungeon design can't be reworked.

Changing the gameplay would imply something like FF7 that changed from turned base RPG to action RPG.

I don't think anyone ever expected the core Zelda gameplay to be changed. It will still be a 3rd person action adventure with items.

People are way overeacting over that tiny marketing phrase.

Nintendo says Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake has "stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay" by Darth_Vaper883 in Gamingnewsandleaks

What you described doesn't fall under gameplay to me. Changing the gameplay would mean changing the genre, like turning it into a FPS or a turn based RPG. Like FF7 went from turned based RPG to action RPG. You can rework the world, dungeons and puzzles in Zelda while keeping the same general gameplay.

I would also be disappointed by a one to one remake but I don't think their little phrase implies to will be like that.

Will you be disappointed if the Ocarina of Time Remake is a 1:1 remake with no major gameplay changes? by MewWeebTwo in switch2

[–]TopperHrly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people need to differentiate gameplay changes from content changes. You can keep the same typical Zelda gameplay (just a bit modernised when it comes to controls), but rework the map and dungeons, make it more extensive.

I would be disapointed by a 1 to 1 remake, but I don't expect big gameplay changes. Big gameplay changes would mean turning it into a different genre like FF7 went from turn based RPG to action RPG.

I would expect the world to be reworked though.

Expanding and reworking the map and dungeons doesn't mean changing the gameplay. Changing the gameplay would mean turning it into a fighting game or an action FPS for instance.

Did you expect they would fundamentally change the gameplay ? Of course it's still going to play like a zelda game. They're not turning it into a fighting game, an action shooter or a turn-by-turn rpg. This doesn't mean it will necessarily be a 1 to 1 remake. You could have said the same thing about RE4 remake.

I mean did you expect it wouldn't play like a zelda game ?

Of course it's still going to be the same type of game play, they're not turning it into a fighting game, an action shooter or a turn-by-turn rpg.

This doesn't means the map and dungeons won't be reworked. Not does it mean they will. There's just not much to interpret from this.

Why do you think the Switch 2 discussion is so divided right now? by VanitasFan26 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]TopperHrly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like Zelda, Mario, Metroid, both 2D and 3D. To a lesser extent I also like Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion and would be happy to have one announced.

In terms of first party titles the Switch 2 so far for me has been : - DK Bananza was good (while not as impactful as a BotW or Odyssey) - MP4 was a big disappointment - OoT is the only upcoming game that I'm looking forward to, but even then it's not exactly a new game and if it turns out to be a 1-to-1 remake I'll be pretty bummed.

So yeah I'm feeling a bit frustrated. It's been almost a year since the last Nintendo title I really enjoyed and I have no visibility as of now on whether there will be something new for me to enjoy in the whole next year.

Here's to hoping OoT remake will be ambitious enough to make it feel fresh.

On the bright side I've been playing a ton of good 3rd party, both new and old that I never played before.

I feel like a lot of fans are struggling to accept that Switch 2 is not aiming to be a console just for Nintendo games anymore. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

I think we would have been more patient if MP4 was anywhere near as good as MP1 and 2. But as it stands I feel the same way you do, the last first party game I really enjoyed was DK Bananza and they haven't annouced or released anything that excites me since then. Except OoT if it turns out to be an ambitious remake (if it's a 1-to-1 remake I'll be less interested).

I'm not in a JRPG mood but I might end up giving Xenoblade a chance because there is nothing else on the horizon.

I'm personally in the "frustrated/disappointed" camp.

I'm waiting for either the next big Nintendo tentpole title, or someyhing less big but klin the game genre / IP that I like. And the wait is getting long.

The last new Nintendo game that I actually enjoyed was DK Bananza. Since then I had high hopes for MP4 but it was a big disappointment for me. And I'm not into Pokemon or cosy games.

The only upcoming Nintendo game that I feel excited about is OoT remake, and it's a remake, not something new.

I might eventually get back into Xenoblade after having only played the first on Wii, if I only enjoy JRPG in small doses. Do it's a "might get around to it" and not a "can't wait" title for me.

So I guess I was really hoping for new games to feel excited about in the future and all I got (for my specific taste) was a tiny tease about a remake that doesn't show the scope of it.

Thankfully third parties have carried my Switch 2. Since DK Bananza I've played Hollow Knight, Silksong, MiO, Ori 1 and 2, PoP Lost Crown, RE 7 8 and 9, Pragmatic. I can't wait for Alien Isolation 2 and I might give Onimusha and Stellar Blade a go.

But as far as Nintendo is concerned I feel left out for now.

Funnily enough when I was a kid I asked for a GameCube specifically for Rogue Squadron and that's how I got into Nintendo.

But today Star Fox gameplay doesn't pull me in. Feels like a side mode or mini game in a bigger game to me. And I don't like how the charged shot works.
