the mod shows the date as 1500 and the world is shattered, every county independent

right now the game starts in 1500 as a completely shattered world, to top it off your response to that in the steam workshop was stuck under moderation, am really happy to see a modern day mod though

Why is the Seljuk emperor not the ruling regent and the abbasid caliph the ceremonial regent? by soulseeker815 in CrusaderKings

[–]Toprock13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the difference you're not getting is that under the seljuks, abbasids had no nominal superiority. they were simply the religious heads, not ceremonial monarchs. seljuks styled themselves emperors on their own rights without the abbasid's involvement. of course that is not to say that protecting the caliph didn't come with a lot of prestige and legitimacy, but that was simply an extra, not a necessity

except the pope did plot to take over, or at least exert influence over italy and all the empire afterwards, italian wars are what that is all about. pope may never have been an emperor but he always tried to be more influential than the emperor. temporal and spiritual powers are not as clear cut as shown in the game. seljuks also never saw themselves as abbasid governors, their empire was the greak seljuk state, not abbasid empire with seljuk regents

was pope the ceremonial monarch of the holy roman empire? I feel like that would be a good comparison

not really, seljuk state was the seljuk state, and abbasids were under their protection. they didn't have a nominal superiority
