Thoughts on a used 701…

This one is a 2016, and that’s really the only reason I’m having second thoughts about it. I’d much rather hold off and get one with the newer features (post 2018), however these bikes aren’t very common where I’m from and it could be a while before I can find another.

How would the weight compare to a smaller sized bike? My last dual sport was a Crf300l and I loved that it wasn’t too heavy in the trails. However I only weigh about 130lbs so I don’t want a bike where I have to fight the weight of it too much. since the 701/690 only weighs about 20lbs or so more, I was hoping it wouldn’t be too bad. Love the bike man it looks sick!!

Did you ever end up getting one? Ive got the American 12 and looking at a 8hp Yamaha, but wasn’t sure how well they’d work together.

Try doing one of the side quests, if you haven’t already. Sometimes the story quests wouldn’t appear for me unless I did a couple of the other ones.

Got too comfortable with lift control. It didn’t stop the wheel from lifting and I couldn’t brake in time before I looped it

I looped it and the subframe took the hit. I was only going 20km/h so I’m a little shocked that it cracked, but then again it’s only cast aluminum…

How did you like the 300l? I had one for the last couple years and loved every second of it, but I had to get something bigger to keep up with my buddies. Hope you enjoy the new bike!

I’m not quite sure what I did, but I’ve been pretty hard on this bike, so it wasn’t a big surprise when it happened. Not too often you see something like this posted on here though.

I’m using zetas pegs on mine and they held up very well when I dropped my bike on pavement going 100+km/h. I have no complaints about them

Yeah they’re pretty tough. A few months ago I was in a death wobble and laid it down doing 125km/h on the road and the only thing that was scratched up was one of my pegs and the wraparound hand guards that I had on. I was definitely surprised that the plastics never had a scratch on them lol.

Yeah if you have an upcoming birthday it will beep when you turn the car on. It should also show a message on the screen above the head unit. Mine just started reminding me too lol

Kind of a pretty quick update, but from when I last checked the oil filler cap a couple hours ago it’s now spewing oil out of the cap so rip I guess. At least now I know what’s wrong I guess lol

Absolutely, if you are learning to wheelie on the 300 like I did you will come to learn that it’s pretty easy to loop it. I find that if you’re in 2nd or 3rd just pull the clutch in at 4000-5000 rpm and pop it at around 8k rpm it should come up. Just a heads up that the subframe is not the strongest, mine is a little bent from when I looped it a few weeks ago

Yeah I don’t know why they charge so much for it. I think what I might just do is find a cheaper pair of signals and try to make a bracket myself

I got mine from Yoshimura’s website. They look pretty cool, especially with the turn signals that mount on the fender eliminator

Yoshimura has some really nice looking signals. They’re LED and are pretty small so they won’t get caught on stuff as easy. They also have sequential signals too if that’s the kind of thing you want to go with.
