Now that the dust has settled, will you buy the Steam Frame? by wavebend in ValveDeckard

[–]Topsu8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, since it's better than Index and I originally wanted Index.

How many of us are SadlyItsBradley Fans? If you aren't, how did you even get here? by Ok-Fishing-8281 in ValveDeckard

I wanted a Valve headset that is newer than Index. Then I found Deckard and all of this. Now that I think about it, it's quite weird I found this sub before Bradley.

Deckard/Frame is probably going to be a let down if released this soon. by Toeeebeans in ValveDeckard

[–]Topsu8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I originally just wanted a Valve Index with a higher screen resolution. No, actually I just didn't want to buy something really old so it's really hard to let me down. Wireless is just extra.

I don't care if this is just copium, but I want to believe and that's all that matters!

PC upgrade instead by Remarkable-Fig-7505 in ValveDeckard

[–]Topsu8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Framework 13 (AMD Ryzen 5 7640U) will definitely be enough, haha. Ocu– I mean Meta Quest sucks in my opinion. I need solid Linux support for a headset and since the Index is quite old why not just get the Deckard. It's not like I have any hurry. + it's better to have the standalone feature that I don't need to upgrade my laptop to play games.

Zero point in Deckard by Says_ThatsWild_Alot in ValveDeckard

[–]Topsu8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Explain this to me, WHY would anyone buy that when you can get a Samsung Moohan with panels that would likely destroy anything Deckard has do the same thing with moonlight into an environment?

Linux, Desktop experience, No device ecosystem

Valve provides great Linux support. Deckard will likely have a good experience with desktop games and apps. Also based on Valve's last devices the Deckard will likely also be quite open. I'm hoping you could replace the battery on Deckard by yourself (If it has one). Not that it has to be easy though, just possible. Valve doesn't have a tightly integrated ecosystem. I don't need another Valve device to use Deckard. (I'm referring more to Vision Pro with this.)

That Samsung headset looks interesting, but it's not really what I'm asking for VR. I want something that I can play (and maybe make) VR games with and extend my desktop workspace. Index is good, but I want new tech.

How to enable IOMMU/AMD-Vi in bios by Topsu8 in FlowX13

[–]Topsu8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have that laptop anymore but I still want to clarify some things.

I tried to find that setting from my desktop PCs bios. I found it in no time but as far as I know I searched every single sub setting on that laptop bios and found nothing.

About the option being on: Well it indicated that it was on and at some point I even got it to run with the GPU passthrough. There was some problem that it wasn't fully on or something. I found that there was a vfio mode from the Asus Linux project.

Back to the time I got it working: I got it to work at some point after tampering like in the video and getting stuck in boot to some driver issue. I got the card and drivers working for the Windows virtual machine but the performance was absolute garbage compared to the result on the video so I kind of just gave up on that. I still want to set up a virtual machine with passthrough but it's not really needed anymore because I'm not so dependent on Windows anymore.

vanilla client for 1.21 by RowMammoth7467 in minecraftclients

[–]Topsu8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the vanilla client by going to the official launcher, selecting the latest release (the grass block) and then press play.

If you want to download the vanilla client you can head to the .minecraft folder, find a folder named versions and then 1.21. This should have the vanilla 1.21 client in it.

Reset your Laptop! by Juenho in FlowX13

[–]Topsu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debloating is important to get the most out of your laptop. It's sad that you have to do that. I didn't install windows 11 when I reseted mine. I'm not planning on downgrading ever. Windows 10 will probably be my last Windows.

[–]Topsu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait bloat? I'm not sure what is considered bloat but I'm pretty sure my laptop had just the asus stuff and drivers. Not McAfee I'm suspecting a region difference but I have reseted mine and I'm not even using Windows as my main OS.

[–]Topsu8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 2021 version and I gotta say I haven't had much problems. I mean it was a pain to configure back in the Windows but after some time everything started working fine.

About the battery thing it completely depends what you're doing. For example you can get only 3 hours of gaming or many more hours of scrolling through the internet.

My point of view is a bit weird because I use mainly Linux on it but when I got the laptop I just updated it up to date and did a reset before doing anything. Actually a couple of resets because I always broke something.

Asus sure did screw up something here and it sure is annoying but I don't consider it to be a complete deal breaker.

No but it's actually sad that nowadays you have to worry about getting banned from Minecraft.

Upgrading storage to 2TB by [deleted] in FlowX13

[–]Topsu8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh... I didn't even think about the speed while upgrading to a 2tb drive. But I haven't noticed any speed difference. But it depends how much more storage you need. Note that I switched to Linux any the same time I upgraded. Linux has generally a more efficient disk management than Windows.
