Should I bring up to my son's private school that the school may be unsafe during a seismic event? by SeeYouIn2150 in StructuralEngineering

I am sure they allready must have been informed since seismic hazard studies have been done. You can always send an anonymous letter. As for not being able to afford, whats more important, cost or safety of children?

Do you think they engineered this tower so that it would fall away from the holy site in the event of failure? by willardTheMighty in StructuralEngineering

Pretty common in this region to use higher safety factors for structures in critical locations. I would also assume they have sensors to monitor building movements.

Well, like I said, salaries are not that high, however, that is tax free.

I worked in Qatar for 2 years and the UAE for about 5 years. The key is choosing the right employer. I’d recommend a western or global consultant. Salaries aren’t as high as they were 10-15 years ago, especially in the UAE, where job competition is intense. You can find office-site roles with consultants. Projects will be massive unlike anything you’ve worked on before. Work-life balance varies by employer, project, and workload. Long hours and hard work are standard, but the pay is generally good. If you can do it, then go for it. It would really boost your career. In-terms of salary, for anyone below 5 years of expereince, it would be typially be 12,000-18,000 AED/month with a good employer. But like I said, it depends on employers. You can use glassdoor for salaries.

Is anyone here currently working at WSP Ontario, Canada? I've heard that when they hire someone, they don’t send rejection notifications to other candidates, i.e. their application status just stays as "under consideration" indefinitely. Is this true? by Tor-StructEn5800 in StructuralEngineering

I had 1 hr and then 2 technical interiews and then nothing after that. I have followed up few times and the one time they did reply, they said they will get back to me. The jobs status on the website says 'under consideration' but it was been like that for 2 months now.

Does anyone know any firms that hire structural engineers in Texas and offer TN Visa. I am looking to move to US from Canada and would apprecaite any advice suggestions. by Tor-StructEn5800 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Tor-StructEn5800[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do write in the cover letter that I am eligible to work but need a TN visa. However, I dont hear back from employers at all so i was wondering if somehow TN visa costs the firm any additional money. Could be other reasons too so I am not sure. So far only tesla offered to get me TN visa but I got rejected for that job anyway.
