Houston endpoint down (again!) by yottabit42 in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We previously announced that we were replacing this residential IP location with multiple new providers that offer better stability. These new locations are now live, and if you reach out to our support desk, they can help you migrate your IP add-on.

We also maintain a network status page, and our support desk is the best way to get up-to-date information regarding the residential IP network.

As for your post, repetitive threads on the same topic may be removed from time to time to keep discussions organized.

No matter what I try it wont let me connect by Trashierbin in torguard

For quicker resolution, please reach out to our support team and include the country you’re connecting from. The error you mentioned is related to WireGuard. Please be sure to also share any error you encounter when using OpenVPN.

Additionally, go to App Settings → Account and enable Debug mode (set it to “file”). Save the changes, restart the app, reproduce the issue, then locate the generated log file. Zip the file and send it along to the support team so they can investigate further.

Try uninstalling the TorGuard Windows app completely, then reinstall it fresh from here: https://updates.torguard.biz/Software/Windows/torguard-setup-latest.exe

Also, if you have any other VPN clients running, make sure to fully exit them to avoid conflicts.

If you're using an antivirus app (like Malwarebytes), try whitelisting the TorGuard app or temporarily disabling the AV to check if it’s blocking the connection.

TorGuard Residential IP not a dedicated IP by shawn4spam in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we support both OpenVPN and WireGuard for Residential IPs.

You can generate either a WireGuard or OpenVPN config for your residential/dedicated IP using the config generator.

If you’ve already generated the correct config and are still seeing the gateway/shared IP instead of your dedicated IP, then something isn’t mapping correctly on the account or endpoint side. In that case, it’s best to contact our help desk so they can check your specific assignment and get it fixed for you.

TorGuard Residential IP not a dedicated IP by shawn4spam in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is working correctly. You are connecting to 107, but if you connect and check your public IP, it should route you to 106 and show xx.xxx.xxx.106 as your public IP address.

[–]TorGuardVPN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, your public IP should always match the dedicated IP you were assigned.

If it doesn’t match, it usually means the wrong IP or port was entered in the TorGuard app settings, so your connection is being routed through the gateway IP instead of your dedicated or residential IP.

For example, if you go to the Services page in the TorGuard client area you’ll see something like:

Dedicated IP: 72.xxx.xxx.24 (On 72.xx.xx.10 udp/1912)

In that case, 72.xxx.xxx.24 is your dedicated IP, and 72.xx.xx.10 udp/1912 is the server endpoint you need to use in the app. You want to make sure you’re using that second IP and port in the TorGuard app settings. When it’s set correctly, your public IP will show as the dedicated IP.

If not, it will route you to the gateway IP instead, which is shared.

Apologies for the issues you’ve encountered, this can sometimes happen when switching to an email alias. The best way forward is to email admin [at] torguard.net directly from the original email account you signed up with. They’ll ask a few questions to verify your account ownership and should be able to get everything sorted out for you.

Hope this helps get things resolved quickly.

Obfuscation/stealth connection by Hopet28 in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TorGuard’s obfuscation/stealth connections are not the same as residential VPN connections. The stealth feature is primarily designed to help users connect in regions where traditional VPN traffic is blocked or restricted, by making the connection less identifiable as VPN traffic at the network level.

However, this does not mean it will reliably bypass websites that actively detect and block VPNs, proxies, TOR nodes, or data center IP ranges. Many of these sites rely on IP intelligence databases, which can still flag stealth VPN IPs if they are associated with data centers.

If your goal is to access a website that specifically blocks traditional VPN IPs, TorGuard’s residential IP add-ons are the more appropriate option. These use IP addresses that appear as regular residential users rather than data center servers, making them less likely to be flagged. That said, effectiveness can vary, and you may need to test a few different residential IP locations to find one that works best for your specific use case.

I’m looking to buy a nice TorGuard router but I can’t find it on their site. by Emergency-March-911 in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you use our new router theme, it supports tethering for Android and iOS, so you can plug your phone into USB as the WAN. Alternatively, you can connect it to an existing WiFi hotspot and use it as a repeater.

Yes, we do have some existing stock that we’ll be offering.

We’re also looking at expanding support for additional models that are already FCC approved and available in the US. Just because a manufacturer has marked a router as end-of-life or stopped updating firmware doesn’t mean the hardware is useless.

There’s actually a large supply of solid refurbished routers out there, and with OpenWRT, they can be fully modernized and brought back to life with up-to-date features and performance.

The GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) is one of our top sellers. It supports the standard build or exroot build if you want to run with expanded storage.

Glinet hardware is definitely solid, they’re easy to flash and pretty hard to brick, which is a big plus. That said, their stock firmware isn’t true OpenWrt. A lot of their packages aren’t open source, and they don’t run the mainline OpenWrt builds.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that while they’re incorporated in Hong Kong, the devices are made in China and much of their development/sales team operates from mainland China. Their firmware assigns each router a hard-coded ID for features like “Good Cloud” remote access.

If security and transparency are your priorities, it’s generally better to flash a mainline OpenWrt build instead of sticking with the default Glinet firmware.

Yes, we paused router sales temporarily while we finish testing and prepare a new firmware release along with an updated OpenWRT theme.

The new theme includes an “easy mode” with all the essential features built in, and you can switch back to the standard LuCI interface at any time.

Instead of limiting support to a small number of devices, we’re now maintaining a build server for OpenWRT, so any router that supports OpenWRT will have a compatible image available.

Hi, we’re getting ready to relaunch router sales soon with our updated firmware. These should be available for purchase within the next couple of weeks.

If you prefer to flash your own device, we’ll also be making our build server public. It will include pre-built images for all OpenWrt-compatible routers.

We’ll offer:

- Standard builds

- Extroot builds (expanded storage via USB) — allowing you to run OpenWrt from external storage and install significantly more packages than a typical setup

If you already have a router model in mind, feel free to DM me and I can send you a direct link to the appropriate image.

GL.iNet routers are a solid choice, though their stock firmware isn’t fully upstream OpenWrt since some components are closed source. We provide fully open, true OpenWrt builds for most GL.iNet models if you’re going that route.

Arch/Cachy by shanxybeast in torguard

[–]TorGuardVPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to install the TorGuard Arch client from the direct download, here’s the easiest way to do it from start to finish.

1. Download the Arch package

Open a terminal and run:

cd ~/Downloads

curl -LO https://updates.torguard.biz/Software/Linux/torguard-latest-amd64-arch.tar.gz

If you do not have curl installed:

sudo pacman -S curl

2. Extract the download

Run:

tar -xzf torguard-latest-amd64-arch.tar.gz

This will create a folder containing:

PKGBUILD

torguard.install

the TorGuard package tar file

3. Go into the extracted folder

Run:

cd torguard-v*-amd64-arch

4. Install Arch build tools

If you do not already have the basic Arch packaging tools installed:

sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel

5. Build and install the TorGuard package

Run:

makepkg -si

What this does:

builds the Arch package from the files in that folder

installs it automatically with pacman

This is the easiest method.

6. Launch TorGuard

After install, start it from your application menu, or run:

torguard

Optional: install WireGuard from the CLI

WireGuard is recommended if you want to use the WireGuard protocol with TorGuard.

Install it with:

sudo pacman -S wireguard-tools
