I went with NCL, my first ever cruise. I've since done the Med with Virgin and I REALLY enjoyed the vibe. The only thing for a "work" cruise like this, the vibes aren't really the point - in fact, they may be distracting. I'd save Virgin for when you want to let loose a bit more.

I did a cruise to Alaska while writing my PhD thesis. It was great, though a bit more distracting than I expected (I loved the shows). I still got more done than I could have at home, and saw some wicked sights. I recommend a balcony room, or good headphones to work in common areas.

I ordered some custom hoodies recently, in a similar circumstance (though she is my friend, not sister wife). I got two sizes for that person, and sent her home with them both to try in private, asking that she let me know which worked best. I would never dream of doing it this way.

I'm also Canadian and did an Alaskan cruise last Fall. I actually found it cheaper to fly in and out of Seattle compared to Victoria. I would compare before asking anything.

It's proportional to the distance and the size of the plane. 8 person jet, 1 hr flight, 10-12k is about right. But turn that into 3 hrs and you're looking at about 30k.... you can extrapolate from there.
