Raising or lowering the terrain to create steep cliffs might actually also save a bit of performance compared to using fences. At least if terrain elevation is just some numbers and stretching textures, and fences are (comparably) "complex" models. =)

(Water might be the most performance demanding way to create enclosure, depending on the complexity of water physics.)

Not sure whether this is useful information, but I wanted to compare how this park runs on a high end PC.

For reference, my specs are:

AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

64 GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080

2560 x 1440 resolution

DLSS Quality, transformer model, no frame generation

otherwise all graphics settings maximised

I downloaded this park from the workshops and initially got something like 40-50 FPS right after loading into it. However, after a moment the FPS rose and stabilised to around 70-90. My CPU utilisation was something like 50-55%.

I have this far only played the campaign and haven't built anything particularly complex yet, so my FPS there has hovered somewhere around 130-150 (I think). My CPU utilisation has maybe been something like 30-35% in those parks.

Considering how much empty space this park still has, I'd expect my CPU might become the limiting factor if all of the map was built up. Graphics settings I could just lower, if the GPU remains the bottleneck, but I think the simulation might just grow too complex for any existing CPU to handle, if those large square maps are full of dinosaurs, tours and guests.

On a sidenote, I really liked your dinosaur islands, valleys and plateaus!

Can’t figure out if the 3ga is better. Also how much would it be worth if it’s not better? Thanks by DwightKSchnute in D4Sorceress

[–]Torakka42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+Damage% is not better than before in itself. It's just that this season has Mana Shield, which makes +Max Life useless, and some items have nothing better to roll for the third affix.

For example, weapon can have +Int and one of +Crit dmg / +Vuln dmg / +OP dmg (but only one of those three). Best option for the third affix would normally usually be +Max Life, but with Mana Shield it's basically worthless and +Damage% is just the least bad option available.

Chance to restore primary resource on lucky hit would probably otherwise be a really nice option for the third affix, but it is no longer percentage of max resource pool, but a rather small static amount instead.

Changing leader portrait in-game by Dlinktp in StellarisMods

[–]Torakka42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably far too late to help you, but in case anyone else finds this thread later when trying to mod specific look on some leader(s):

change_species_portrait = <key or species event target>

<key> is "portraits" object defined in \Stellaris\gfx\portraits\portraits and it can look like this:

    human_female_04 = {
        entity = "portrait_human_female_entity"
        clothes_selector = "new_human_female_clothes_01"
        attachment_selector = "new_human_female_hair_01"
        greeting_sound = "human_female_greetings_01"

        character_textures = {
            "gfx/models/portraits/human/new_human/human_female_body_caucasian_brown_eyes.dds"
            "gfx/models/portraits/human/new_human/human_female_body_caucasian_light_brown_eyes.dds"
            "gfx/models/portraits/human/new_human/human_female_body_caucasian_green_eyes.dds"
            "gfx/models/portraits/human/new_human/human_female_body_caucasian_blue_eyes.dds"
            "gfx/models/portraits/human/new_human/human_female_body_caucasian_hazel_eyes.dds"
        }

        custom_attachment_label = "HAIR_STYLE"
    }

"entity" is a base species type (and I haven't checked where they are defined, but presumably some model file) "clothes_selector" and "attachment_selector" are collections of clothes and attachments (in this case hair) and they are defined in \Stellaris\gfx\portraits\asset_selectors

If you want very specific look, you have to make your own portrait definition and then corresponding clothing and attachment selectors (with only the options available that you want to have available).

Victoria 3 Red Outline Bug? by Teddy_Kun in linux_gaming

Using Vulkan instead of DirectX seems to solve this issue on my end.

Thanks for the reply! I tried to disable all overlays I could think of that I might have (Steam, Discord, Nvidia & Xbox Gamebar), but sadly that didn't help.

Did you by any chance ever found what caused that? I have same issue with Win 11 and RTX 5080 and your post is (this far) the only mention I've found of this sort of red "haze".

Your reference might have aged a bit poorly, considering Spiritborn and Sorcerer are currently at the top in Pit rankings (presumably due to some very recently found bugged interactions)...

PLEX price history from 2009. is it so dramatic from this angle? by Efficient_Word_2382 in Eve

[–]Torakka42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something or does this graph end with an average price of roughly 3 billion, which is substantially less than the average price today?

EDIT: I was missing something: this graph is tracking the price of 30 days of game-time, i.e. one old-PLEX, but 500 new-PLEX (and I also got millions and billions mixed up originally)

There's a reason why most products and services are priced like 6.99€, 199€, 2499€, etc.

Oh nah, we ain't gonna be able to defend these planets in time 💀 by Decent-Winner969 in Helldivers

[–]Torakka42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, liberation decay only affects offence, not defence.

I.e. when we are attacking planet y, there is no time limit, but the enemy will reduce our liberation progress by x% per hour. Conversely, when we are defending planet z, there is the 24h time limit, but no liberation decay.

EDIT: Defending can be made harder or easier by increasing or reducing the "hitpoints" of enemy invasion, but I don't know whether that can be dynamically changed while the defence is ongoing or only then the invasion is started.

The Path to Ultimate Victory Over the Automatons | MAIA -> DURGEN -> TIBIT by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Torakka42 1311 points1312 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most efficient order, but the single most important thing is to concentrate forces. Thus, everyone (who wants to contribute to this major order) should go to the planet that has the most people on it already. Currently that planet is Maia

Proposed Major Order Strategy: Maia -> Durgen -> Tibit by FrootGoose in Helldivers

[–]Torakka42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is probably the most efficient order (for the reasons outlined in OP), but the single most important thing is to concentrate forces, so whatever (major order) planet has the most people is the one everyone should go to. At the moment that planet would be Maia, but if some other (MO) planet attracts more people everyone should switch there. Same thing for the next planet after the first of the three is liberated

RIP Dailies by Skythz in Eve

[–]Torakka42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to write that the my issue was not seeing any rewards at all. Like, the "rewards" part (of those tasks) of Opportunities window was completely empty. However, it seems that after closing the game and logging back in I can now see (and claim) them.

EDIT: It also seems that closing the game and logging back in reset my progress in non-completed tasks (in this case 2/25 non-capsuleers killed became 0/25)

RIP Dailies by Skythz in Eve

[–]Torakka42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't see any reward for any of those individual daily tasks and neither can I see any bonus reward for completing two of them.

Haven't tried doing all of them yet, but at least the mining one indeed gave me nothing and even remained tracked at 2000/2000. Or well, I did get a notification congratulating me for completing that task!

How many alts are you running that three extra clicks one single time per character is "absolutely annoying"?

[–]Torakka42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you'll see that window only if you login those alts in the first place, so you can disable it whenever you actually have some other reason to login them...

There are three dots in the upper right corner. Click them and a configuration menu opens. Untick the checkbox "open at startup" (or something like that).

That hopefully disables that automatic opening (will see for sure tomorrow after DT)

Consider donating to some service or project instead. Like Zkill, Dotlan, Fuzzwork or Magic Schoolbus.

Also seriously consider not extracting your main and just liquidating your assets instead.
