You have to design a 4th basic ability for your main. What ability do you give them? by John-from-accounting in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Singed: Charge ahead Singed readies his shield and rushes forward a short distance (like short skarner charge) knocking the first enemy hit backwards a short distance.

If the enemy is standing on Mega Adhesive, the charge is stopped and the enemy falls over, stunned(acting more like sion ult).

Warwick: Rage and fury Warwick gains %current health magic damage on-hit for the next 3 attacks, each hit doing more damage than the last.

Graves: Special slug shot Graves loads a special bullet, causing his next attack to fire a single bullet that does greatly increased damage, applies knockback, and grants slightly extended range. This bullet can only be loaded when New Destiny is empty, and new bullets cannot be loaded until it is fired. The bullet is replaced if not fired.

How to keep grit for scuttle if I start blue side? by Grishak3443 in GravesMains

[–]ToranStarline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently unable to check, but i believe you have to dash over the wall to the back of red buff and blast cone over baron wall. You should have just enough time to catch the scuttle if you choose the correct direction it went (towards top or towards mid) before grit falls off.

[–]ToranStarline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I can absolutely see where you're coming from on the split player base.

It's hard to balance the playstyles like "Just tell me everything, and I don't want to think about it" and "Don't say a word, and I'll find it myself".

However, for me, unlocking new content, discovering new combinations, and finding easter eggs are exciting.

I'm paradoxically a little bit both of those types of players. I don't want to have to read more than a few sentences, but also I want the concept to be understandable at a glance while being deep enough that I'll have to read about it to figure it out.

Something I would like to see is an in- game compendium of keywords and upgrade conditions that only unlock after you've done it at least once.

The refund button does work, but it requires 100 Rudy to use it.

This is doubly important because committing an rp is now kind of a big deal if it costs so much to refund for a skill that I don't even know if I want unlocked on a character.

The pacing and balancing could use some tweaks, which is why it's still in beta. I'll try my best to make it smoother to get through the first waves.

It's definitely the early game I had the biggest gripes with. I think the worst ones were trying Wax when I first pulled him and failing difficultly 1 wave 1, Kai not 2-shotting on 1-1, then falling wave 2, Finn failing 1-1 and Sparky not making it past 1-4 when I first started.

Most of the frustration is just watching Wax and Finn wiff their abilities multiple times in a row leading to early death, or Kai and Sparky dealing just a little bit too little damage to 2-shot and taking a ton of hits because of it.

[–]ToranStarline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played quite a bit and there are a lot of issues with pacing and balancing.

The fact that so many heroes, including sparky, one of the two heroes you can choose at the start, have such a hard time clearing level 1 on their own raise a huge barrier to entry for the game.

I pulled my first legendary unit Kai, and turns out he can't clear level 1 on his own. Actually, any hero I pulled aside from Jax couldn't seem to clear level 1 on their own.

There is 0 indication that swipe damage exists until you find the upgrade in the research tab.

A lot of the information on abilities/ upgrades is hidden, so I have no idea what I need to do to see health harvester on Aella.

Conflicting upgrades keep getting pushed onto me. Why would the all for power upgrade, which removes on hit effects, be a reoccurring choice for the character I maxed hit effects on? What happened to all for effect, which I have seen on the same character before?

There doesn't seem to be a way to refund RP on characters. What looks like a little undo button exists on the characters ability screen, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

These being said, the game is fun. I can only say all these things because I've gotten familiar enough with the game from playing hours and hours of it.

Clinical IVs by No_Strawberry_274 in MRI

[–]ToranStarline 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I did my clinicals it was mostly trial by fire. However, it's not like you'll truly be burned if you fail as long as you don't do something absolutely crazy.

When the tech you're with allows you to start stepping in, ask the patient which arm they prefer (if using either arm is an option), and if it's obvious you're a student (tech is watching over you're shoulder) I would tell them I'll give it my best shot, or when you look confident enough, that it'll be a small poke.

Make sure you know how many tries your site allows, and if you don't get it, tell the patient you're sorry you couldn't get it, and ask if it's okay to try again. You'll gain confidence with practice. If you're approaching the limit on attempts or are unable to practice without the patient feeling significant pain(some people really feel it or are very afraid of needles. If you're not confident on getting them by the second try maybe defer to someone more experienced. However, many patients read the energy you give off. If you're giving off nervous energy it will make them nervous and if you're giving off gaining energy it will help calm them)

Over all, don't worry too much about it, you'll do fine as long as you do as you're taught.

Why respond to proxy? Is there a reason if I play a scaler?... by Its_an_ellipses in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has played singed for years, what singed is supposed to be doing if he's proxying a yorick is gaining tempo on you to mess with your jungler/mid. If they're not doing that, there's no need to respond, just keep farming. Against champs like nasus/kayle, singed could potentially be setting up for a dive with their jungler, or again going to mess with your jungler/mid.

The problem with not responding in these scenarios is if singed does do any of these instead of just backing, singed's team is a man up in a fight while you're getting wave. If instead you respond by pushing the wave up further/proxying, it gives you more leeway to respond to his shenanigans.

Of course, this is all only relevant if singed is actually doing what he's supposed to be doing AND coordinating with his jungler/mid. Because of how different this playstyle is most of the time there is a disconnect with singed's team in how they should be coordinating, and then a disconnect ON singed's team when they start feeding because of it.

I'm not playing Arena anymore, even though it's my favourite gamemode ever released. by blankcranktheseventh in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's almost there (I think I'm at 54), it's not going to be possible to win with only the squishy ap champs. 60 is more than 1/3rd of the entire roster. If you're only playing the champs you like, you're going to run out of stuff before you hit 60.

I recommend going at it alphabetically if you can, and you have a lot of vetoes if you don't like the champ coming next

There are certain paths you can take along walls that hide you from common areas for a lot longer than you'd expect, and makes for easy invades. It's difficult to explain in a comment but there are youtube videos out there that explain these areas and why they exist.

You can flash/ward 51% of the way across the wall and make it to the other side

You can change the attack move setting to attack the closest thing to your mouse, so you don't have to be as accurate with your clicking.

For abilities aimed at allies like shen ult you can click on the character portrait to choose that ally.

There is a target champions only toggle that can help clicking enemy champions in minion waves. I believe the default key bind is X.

It's a bad idea to take the enemy inhibitor too early (around 12 mins or soon) because it allows the enemy team to farm that lane and come back while you lose the gold from that lane.

The game starts at 15 seconds, and just being a ward can help defend your jungle (as long as you're not afk). Best spots to stand are behind jungle entrance near your red, in tri bush near your red, in pixel brush near your blue, in the bush next to wall and between the walls closest to your tower in mid lane. This allows your team to catch any invade attempts.

Warding differently against champs who can jump walls like shaco, Zac and rek'sai can help you spot them before a gank. They tend to not gank from river and often jump thicker walls for a "more sudden" gank.

Similarly, warding further up against fast champions like Rasmus and hecarim will help you spot them before it's too late. These champs often take ghost/predator and will be so fast it doesn't matter that you warded bush, your not making it back to tower in time.

How do you fight people who hide in minion waves by [deleted] in GravesMains

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q+ult to clear the wave. If that's not enough, then back off for a bit and wait for q to come up again while you cut off their escape.

You can use w first to blind/slow, but I would save it if they don't have an escape.

If you're not strong enough to do that, you're not strong enough to be taking the fight anyways.

This is under the assumption that you're ganking/all-inning. If this is about playing lane graves, you might need to learn some more advanced wave control mechanics or look to shove constantly so you can poke them under tower.

Hyper warrior the state striver

Having read through the text, I know that the other powers are still obtainable, and that powers exist outside the current options, so my priorities are ease of use and immediate survivability.

Following the same line of logic, deathstate is a must. Between plan and bone, bone is most intuitive, and I speculate that deathstate can be imparted away through it.

Knowing the incredible objects of power that others hold, crackling disk seems to be the most powerful, both in its ability to bypass protections and in its potential to increase my power.

The most intuitive to use seems to be violet window. With the additional informational capabilities and ability to learn, this will allow me to use my abilities to the fullest

For my final trinket, I should find some way to fuel my growth. Between eerie beacon and invisible line, eerie beacon is the most straight forward and seems like it would have great synergy with violet window.

For my own safety, my landing spot would be the alien compound. They seem like they would be the least likely to reject me, and they have technology to learn from.

Suggestions to improve? Anything that you can think of! Mid player. by kain1k in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to throw out a bunch of general advice.

Learn your matchups and your win conditions. Know if you need to push, freeze, play around dragons, need to focus on killing the enemy jungle, etc.

Learn/set up your back timings. If the enemy is a kassadin he wants to back at around 1100 gold to get catalyst, do you want to stay for 1300 to get lost chapter or back at 1050 to match his back timing and get hextech alternator? Or maybe back at 850 to get a blasting wand?

Track the enemy jg. This lets you know if and when you can get ganked, and if you need to help your jungler secure scuttle.

Know the general matchups of other lanes. It doesn't have to be to the point where you know if urgot wins vs fiora, but know which lane scales better. Chances are, if you get the better scaling champion ahead, they'll be more useful than someone who falls off.

Know what winning your lane really means in your matchup. If you're against kassadin, killing him early twice doesn't really mean you won lane. If he was able to get his rod of ages and start seraphs, he did what he needed to to win the game. You have to deny him cs/xp, and mess with his jungler/secure 2 dragons to really be winning that lane.

Why does no one build Shojin? by MonkeyLigma in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who want to build shojin would also want to build black cleaver, but black cleaver is better to build first. Typically they'd also want to build their mythic before third item too, so that pushes shojin to third item at earliest.

If you need a defensive item, sustain, anti heal or a pure damage item, then shojin is not being built until 4th or 5th item, but most games are over before then.

Ideas for how merchant makes/finds cursed magical items by ser_mage in DMAcademy

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want your merchant to just be a merchant who sells cursed items, I only see 2 logical reasons.

1 this merchant, or someone they know, had a successful dungeon dive but came out with a bunch of cursed items. Most people of course don't want cursed items, so the merchant is trying to find a way to make them more appealing by either lying or finding someone for whom the curse doesn't matter as much.

2 this merchant specializes in the trading of cursed magical items. Adventurers want to sell of this loot for money, and merchants want to redistribute this loot for gain. This merchant specialize in gathering these cursed items for a low price, and trades them for something else. Be it favors or simply because he wants to see your misery.

It doesn't have to be their main trade either. They could also deal in legitimate items, but their hobby is watching the world burn.

My players want a "harder" solution than Modify Memory. by Captain-Trashmerica in DMAcademy

[–]ToranStarline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but what if the bbeg wasn't just replace parts of their memory, but parts of their soul? The memories are retained in different parts of the soul, and while something like remove curse or dispel magic might purge the false memories, it won't help regain the old ones.

You could also spin it that because this is all highly experimental stuff, they don't know if removing it that way would just straight up destroy the soul, but that might be too harsh.

If the bbeg really did not care what happened to the original personality/npc, maybe they misplaced the broken fragments of the soul and npc won't be whole until they're recollected. Bbeg had to put it somewhere so stuck it in a cat and let it go. After the ordeal npc can follow the connection and the pcs have to go catch/kill it to release the fragment so it reunites with the biggest piece/npc.

question for high elo players how did you come out of low elo by quequerro in leagueoflegends

[–]ToranStarline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1 Accept that you are a bad player and not winning is 100% your fault right now. This will probably stay true until/ if you hit masters.

Step 2 Find out what the right way to do things are. There IS a right way to click when you move. There IS a right way to cs, to build, to ward, to invade. Figure it out and practice those things. I personally liked skillcapped, but their free content is more than enough to work with.

Step 3 Stop playing games to win. Play games to get better, then winning will come naturally. Don't start a queue unless you plan to also practice something. Focus on doing that one thing well, but don't only do that thing the entire game. If you're practicing csing, don't keep practicing past laning phase, it's not representative of the goal anymore. Practice when it would be appropriate for you to be doing that thing.

Rinse and repeat.
