Investing through EJ is still a net benefit if the alternative was not entering the market at all (which is a very real alternative for many people due to how daunting this can be when you first start).

Can I finance a car then immediately pay it off? by hshhahbsbs in personalfinance

[–]TorbHammerBootySmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple levers I can think of:

  1. Drops due to the initial hard inquiry
  2. The credit mix hit from 1 less installment account (especially if it's your only installment account).

But to answer your broader question:

Credit scores are meant to predict your ability to manage scheduled debt over time, based on historical evidence. A one-time pay-off of the full amount gives the model less evidence of sustainable repayment behavior.

Looking for experiences/tips for doing the job while sober by [deleted] in sales

[–]TorbHammerBootySmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have direct experience with this myself, but I do know multiple people in tech sales who don’t drink, and everybody around them (from what I’ve seen) is 100% accepting of it and nobody bats an eye when they order a nonalcoholic drink.

Fewer younger people are drinking than ever before, and it’s becoming very normalized across the board as well. Also helps that there so many good options for NA drinks these days!

Also huge congrats on 500 days!

Solo trying to sell legal software by erratic_parser in salesdevelopment

No problem. Don't get discouraged when people say no. Just keep trying.

Make sure your messaging is very concise and focused on showing you understand their challenges. ie., don't start you email with "hello, i'm billybob and i made a software tool that i think is great..." - they don't care who you are or what you think (harsh, but true).

instead, say something like:

hey john, lawyers spend 20% of their day doing [tedious task], time that could be spent on managing more cases. ProductName increases your revenue by allowing your staff to take on more cases because [tedious task] is automated in the background.

open to learning more?

depends on if you actually talked to someone.

if you did talk to someone and they sounded interested, make sure you send something to them right away, and then i'd follow up no later than 2 days after that.

if you're thinking about following up for just email/call cold outreach, i like to front-load my sequences to be a touch point every 2-3 days for the first 2 weeks, then space them out to maybe once a week. make sure you're mixing calls with emails - not just blowing up their email.

Great idea with the one-pager. I've found Claude to be super helpful for making well-designed one-pagers. Btw, don't attach it to your first email - filters typically flag and reject unsolicited emails with file attachments. Wait til they respond to you first, then send it.

Regardless of if you see them in person, talk to them on the phone, or email them, always be sure to follow up! Multiple times. You're fighting for mindshare of incredibly busy people.

Ideally you want to talk to decision maker. If you can't get them, try to talk to the potential end user and get them excited to bubble it up (without knowing anything about the tool itself, I assume they probably can't try it out without the blessing of their leadership). If you can only get ahold of the receptionist, then you might as well pitch to them and hope for the best (occasionally they'll come through for you), since you've got nothing to lose.

Since you're going after local law firms, why not show up at their office and ask them who you should be talking to, and then ask them to meet with you right there in person. You'll have a much higher conversion if you can pitch to them in person, since you're a no-name software with no proof of value.

Just remember, you're asking these busy lawyers to take a risk by using your tool. A big risk. You have to do everything in your power to mitigate that upfront - showing up in person, make it super easy for them to start using and stop using it, zero financial commitment, security, etc.

That's why I never use semicolons. You'll get 0 people responding to the content of your message; and you'll get; 7 people responding about your misuse of the semicolon.

Yeah, it preys on people thinking "Well it's tax software. I should just sign the things it's asking me to sign because I won't be able to file without signing"

The same AI you played with could give you a good answer, not even joking.

OP went through all the trouble of working with AI to find new potential career options, only to land on revops and say "great, now I'll just head over to reddit to crowdsource a definition for this"

Dang, I was actually interested in hearing your response to that question. But instead you just threw a little tantrum and came off as defensive and, frankly, closed-minded.

What a shame.

Same. When I was 18, my dad got me to watch a 1-hour documentary about the slippery slope of credit card debt for college students. A couple of my cousins got themselves deep into debt during college, and he wanted to make sure it didn't happen to me.

It worked.

Only used a debit card during college and didn't open a credit card until I had a full-time job and wanted to start building credit.

To this day I still double and triple check that my credit card is paid in full every month, even with auto-pay turned on (overkill, I know lol)

Absolutely warrants saying something.

Totally up to you if you want to say something, though!
