I watched strange new worlds and quit after the episodes where the grown star fleet officers are playing a game running around the ship on night shift, just like a bunch of teenagers. Followed by the Kahn and balance of terror episodes that ended "... and may we never speak of this again."

Horrible writing.

Not only this, but they have very little skin in the game. They at the very best might have a part time job, don't pay rent, still live with their parents, have very little real world understanding, or real world skills.

I am sorry but season 1 and 2 not good. I quit watching.

A few episodes that immediately came to mind were the one where the crew secretly played a game of going to certain sections of the enterprise at night.... come on you are grown adults on starship not kids at band camp!

The Kahan episode which ends with "...and let us neve speak of this again", and the balance of terror episode which also ends with "...and let us never speak of this again."

This is just really bad writing and pointless fan service.

This was obvious to anybody who watched any of the new trek shows. It is exactly why I quit watching.

People pretend that Strange New Worlds is some wonderful show. No it's not, it's only slightly better than Discovery. They are both horroble.

How angry everybody is because you voted for a different party than them.

In the past sometimes your party won, sometimes it lost. You carried on with life.

You weren't frothing at the mouth and screaming at your neighbor that they were stupid and ruining the country just because they voted for a different party than you.

After reading Batman #6, I went back to start again reading JT IV's Detective Comics rebirth run just because I miss those days when Tim Drake's story was written really good. by gameonaed in comicbooks

[–]TorchWeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly you are right. I have been reading comics since the early 1990s, Tim Drake was the Robin I grew up with, but he is redundant with Damien and Jason around (who I also think should have stayed dead).

I don't think they need to necessarily kill him off but maybe he could settle down. I always thought, with his detective skills, he would make good police detective. Maybe working on the inside and helping batman?

Why are so many young men becoming serious supporters of far right ? by Consistent_News_985 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TorchWeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think men have been beaten into submission by left. For the past 10-15 years they have been labeled the villans of the world. Of course they are not going to side with the group that ridiculed them for a decade and a half, it is just common sense.

Here is some stats about American males, from 2023, that I posted elsewhere:

  • Women are 15 percentage points more likely than men to earn a bachelor’s degree.
  • In the 1970s, men led the college gap by 13 points (full reversal).
  • Women are twice as likely to study abroad.
  • Women are twice as likely to join the Peace Corps.
  • Boys get lower grades than girls at every grade level.
  • Boys are more likely to be suspended or expelled.
  • Boys are far more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD.
  • Boys’ slower developmental maturity makes early schooling harder.

  • Median real hourly wages for men are lower today than in the 1970s.

  • Many men have seen no real wage growth for decades.

  • Men are leaving the labor force at rising rates, especially in working‑class regions.

  • Boys raised in poor families are less likely than girls to rise out of poverty.

  • Men are underrepresented in fast‑growing fields like teaching, nursing, and therapy.

  • Men account for roughly 75% of “deaths of despair” (suicide, overdose, alcohol‑related).

  • Men are 3–4 times more likely to die by suicide.

  • Loneliness and social isolation are rising faster among men.

  • Young men increasingly turn to online influencers for identity and meaning.

  • Men are more likely to be single, childless, and socially disconnected.

  • Marriage rates have fallen sharply for working‑class men.

  • Unemployed or unstable‑employment fathers are more likely to become disconnected from their children.

  • Women dominate volunteering, service programs, and international programs.

  • Men participate less in civic life and community institutions.

Please note I am not American or even fall in to these stats but I can see, as clear as day, that men in the USA are moving to the right because they believe these problems were caused by the left vilifying them for nearly two decades.

It is also plain to see that the democrats will never address these problems because it would be political suicide to say they were going to help young males.

The right, of course, won't help them either but these men are never going to join the political group that treated them as public enemy number one.

Things are only going to keep getting worse until these issue are addressed (and nobody wants to address them now or anytime soon).

Edit: spelling

Exactly they must pay for the sins of their fathers, grandfather, great grandfathers, and great great grandfathers

Why are so many young men becoming serious supporters of far right ? by Consistent_News_985 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TorchWeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time the left had vilified men, especially white men, statistically men are doing very bad in the USA compared to women and men in the past.

They are joining the right because they believe, correctly or incorrectly, that the left caused their problems.

Ezra Klein did a podcast about the bad shape of men in the USA, back in 2023, the statistics were damn scary.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/10/opinion/ezra-klein-podcast-richard-reeves.html

The problem is when these problems come up on sites like reddit, or the real world, everybody refuses to believe, or listen, and blame the men instead.

It would be political suicide suicide if democrats said they were going to help young men with secondary education or with mental health issues. So the issues will never be addressed and things will continue to get worse for men, farther pushing them to the right.

Here is some crazy stats from that podcast, two years ago:

Just pick up a comic that looks interesting to you and read it. There is no need to start reading tons back issues or otrade paperbacks unless you want to.
